Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion 2012

For some reason, I have been a swing-and-miss machine. Changing speeds, locations, patterns, etc. have all helped me and the stats have showed it. This has led to a very, very nice increase in my K's and also have seen my starter's ERA's drop!

Check this out, my last 5 games (K's and swinging K's)

    Greinke: 9 (6 swinging)
    Marcum: 7 (4 swinging)
    Wolf: 6 (4 swinging)
    Fiers: 9 (8 swinging!!!)
    Gallardo: 11 (5 swinging)

At this rate, I am loving my rotation. Now, I need to find a way to translate this to my bullpen...

DJ, I'd help you if I could but I can't remember that far back.

But if you check out my post history, there are some Classic pitching rants/tirades from around that time period. But, to be fair, I was really new to the interface then.

        Just. Awesome!

Were these API driven? And you're on AS using your's and Authentic's custom sliders, correct?

Congrats, bro. Looks like we both have had nice little K stretches going!

I am using the AS set, yes. And no, those were all user controlled. I just have been taking the time in between pitches, watching the cutscenes and thinking about what should come next. It's really paid off.

I'm glad that finally we are getting some stability with this interface. Yet, I can see it now...

          Final statline: 2 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 8 BB, 1 K.

            I haven't chimed in a while...

I've been able to get a much better feel for the interface. I finally got my first complete game a week ago (JA Happ vs St Louis) and my first one hit complete game today (Bud Norris vs Pittsburgh).

Pitching to the API (pitch selection more than location) and pitching to contact has really improved my control.

32 games into my franchise and we are ranked 13th in BB's allowed. I feel to be in the middle of the league in that stat is an accomplishment.

Which set of sliders are you using and what's your human control/consistency set at?

I am using my set of Sliders (ILFT's and authentic's Simulation Slider Project - All-Star set) and I believe Consist/Control is either 4/5 or 5/5.

                  And...

Just like that I pitch a CG, 1 BB, 9 K with Ivan Nova (5 swinging).

Other than a brief beatdown earlier in the night (10 ER from newly aquired Jorge De La Rosa, who's been great otherwise! Yeah...let's not talk about it), I've been on A ROLL!

*SMH*, I just cannot get K's on classic anymore. Through 4 games (that I've recorded) and more I've only averaged 6 per game which is low for the MLB. My highest game was 7. I'm also averaging 3.7 BB's per game. What drives me nuts is aiming the ball dead center (not touching the stick) and having four straight 4-seams miss WAY off the plate in different directions LOL. I'm playing on all star btw.

I have control/consistency at 5 and CPU contact at 4.

I just played two games in a row where I walked 3 with my starter, 2 of which in each game were also on sequences of pitches down the middle.

I'm convinced that as long as your strategy is sound, whether you follow the API or not (which I'd say I usually do until my strikeouts begin to fall off the table), this game definitely is streaky as far as K's are concerned.

I'm still at 3.6 BB's and 7.6-7.7 K's. But it's not unusual for me to have 5-7 game stretches just like your's.

I'm finding that unless there's 3 balls, lighter taps are the most accurate. But when a walk is on the horizon, min and max effort seem to be the least accurate of all. Generally, I'm going with 1/4-1/3 effort. And if a walk isn't worst case, it's something straight and dead read.

If I had used this strategy earlier on, I think my 3.6 would easily be 3.3.

If you use the API, I stop following it at least for a few pitches when I begin having those 5 pitch innings (you can't get strikeouts if the CPU is putting everything they swing at in play).

Strikeouts are really dependent on individual pitch confidence, so even if quick innings are frustrating you because they are stripping you of K's, if it's building your confidence on pitches, this can be GOLD for getting strikeouts as the game progresses. My big time strikeout performances all correlate with at least decent overall confidence, and especially good individual pitch confidence. Focus on this moving forward, even if it means a couple quick outs just to get the ball rolling.

If overall and pitch confidence are low, with no hope of recovery: forget K's for that game with THAT pitcher and go get em' in the next one.

Hey all, I am back! I have been using the Cooperstown set from Authentic and IL4T. I switched from timing to zone and have been getting too many hits for my liking, but not hitting very many homers.

I am still using classic pitching and trying to figure things out. I finally have a little time to devote back to the show!

Ok, I'm definitely back on board with classic pitching. I have consistency/control at 5 and only changed solid hits to 3 and left power at 5 (changed from my previous posts).

Tigers (me) v Blue Jays (cpu)

                          Verlander - 14 K's
                          Coke - 1 K
                          Valverde - 1 K

14 k's for Verlander? Are you kidding me? I about shat my pants when I did that. Frickin' awesome!
