To get an accurate ERA, runners need to be on base and in scoring position. Whether you use Auto Fielding or not, I'd recommend those changes to everyone. The CPU needs these changes over 162 games for the stats to balance out.

For pitch speed, I use 3. I play in HD with some minimal lag. My brother, who's in SD, uses 4. Don't feel bad about this change.

I like to be able to pull fastballs at 93 MPH and under when looking for one. Granted, I don't always manage to get around on them (thanks to location, etc), but it is my base. I never expect to pull 95 MPH and up unless the ball is exactly where I thought it would be.

Pulling balls is part of baseball. 3 gives me that ability.

Otherwise, it's Consistency 6 and Injuries 6 (sim at 5).
I'm actually going to use Armor and Sword's for the most part (except I field myself, so I went with errors at 6, to balance what I saw on my own.)

The whole set is built around Timing and Classic, so I figured it was worth a try. From most everything I see in there, everyone gets very sim statistics, and while I didn't want to use sliders if I didn't have to -- I may as well try the ones that are working for those looking for the same type of experience, and go from there.

Only time will tell. I started my new franchise, did all of the business aspects, and since I decided to start from Opening Day this year in this franchise, waived Brandon Inge and Clete Thomas... we'll see how things look after 10-15 games and see if I see anything wonky.

At least now using Classic pitching and an established slider set, I'll be able to ask you more specific questions if I DO see anything wonky.
I'm just an old guy sports gamer...

I think Armor's set is a good choice to start with.

You can always work your way back to Default if necessary. One click at a time; over time. So now you have his set and my set. This should help find your way to striking your own balance, and customizing the sliders to your own personal skill set.

Keep me posted and if you ever have any questions...feel free.

        Heroes,

I just started playing with Ball marker off. My son and I play at least 3-4 games a week and we do not use it.

So I tried it out in my own Marlins Chise.

I love it. More challenge, more sim IMO. YOu really have to feel the strike zone, how your pitches are moving etc. I have been pitching just fine with it off too. Just takes a little practice. Add's more dice roll randomness to the mix.

        Try it out.

          Whoa.

          You sir, are a stud!

That's crazy!!!! Thanks, but no thanks. LOL! The Nationals have been embarrassing my Yankees plenty enough with the ballmarker on. LOL!

And I'm up to an ERA of 4.03! Yikes! From 3.53 at the end of May, you can imagine how reluctant I am to make things harder.

I'm fine where I am, but that must be a trip, Armor. It's gotta be nuts! LOL!

What would you guys recommend for classic pitching sliders? I hate moving any sliders to be honest, I feel the game plays great out of the box. I did lower CPU strike frequency one tick to 4, forgot to mention I play on All-Star on both levels. I'm not a great player, but usually slightly over .500 most years. I've played plenty of games using classic pitching but the wildness is crazy. Roy Halladay shouldn't walk 7 batters in 5 innings

Would you recommend I raise control/consistency? Is there a consensus on how much?

Heroes will confirm this, but I was exactly where you were about a month ago. After constant "nagging" (lol) from Heroes I tried Classic for the first time ever. After walking 5 batters in a row, I went back to meter (or else I would have thrown my controller threw the TV). I reported this to Heroes and again he persisted that I stick with Classic. After 4 or 5 games, I got the hang of it and I truly love it - I feel it is so much more realistic. I have great games and not so great games. My Yankees staff has a 4.56 ERA after 9 games and have given up 25 walks - so just under 3 per game.

As far as sliders go, once again Heroes convinced me to play on AllStar default - and I have never had a better experience with this game EVER. Great variety of scores, I am 6-3 with my Yankees so far. So before you start tweaking sliders, give AS default an honest try - you will be glad you did - and you will never touch another slider.

However, I did tweak a few sliders - some for personal preference:

              wind - 4 (default is 5)
              injuries - 3
              rel. stamina - 2
              fielding errors - 6
              basestealing frequency - 7
              pitch speed - 2

The rest is default. Try it and report back. Hopefully it works as well as it is for me. Good luck!!

I also have been using Ball Marker off with my set, ever since authentic and I put out our sliders. It is difficult. It is hard. But, in my honest opinion, it is the way to go. People get so mad with Classic due to how it reacts and that the accuracy wasn't 'pinpoint'. Turn off the Ball Marker and that aspect of it goes away. How are you to know that you didn't just messup on your location causing the meatball, not the interface.

I posted my sliders a few posts back. DarwinB posted his, Armor and Marino have a set, and Iliveforthis and Authentic do too.

Somewhere in there, you will find a set that works for your playstyle.

I only just recently raised Consistency to 6 because my BB's were slightly too high (3.83 per game over approximately 60 games). That said, I would NOT recommend this change to DarwinB because his BB's are perfect.

See what I'm getting at? It's all about our own personal playstyle. I'm a nibbler and need the extra accuracy.

I have a detailed tutorial on page 5. And there are plenty of other tidbits throughout the thread which will help you with your accuracy.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I love playing with the ball marker off, too. I don't really feel it makes things harder, either, just different. It takes like a whole 6 pitches for you to get accustomed. If I have one recommendation that I'm allowed to make in this thread, it's to try pitching with the ball marker off.

It just makes pitching more immersive, especially when you're falling apart and can't find the strike zone. I feel it adds to that "lost" feeling, but at the same time, I feel it doesnt really make the zone any harder to find. It's an illusion, but a good one.

I will give it a try. I'm really struggling pitching. I can hit fine, but pulse pitching just feels like a chore though my results were better. I just never walked anyone with pulse pitching. Guess I'm just trying to find a nice balance, maybe I should give it more than 4-5 games. 8 walks seemed a bit extreme though. The only strikes I was throwing were on pitches I aimed right down the middle on.

I'm currently running a franchise with the METS, using the All-Star version of ILive and Authentics sliders, and am dead last in the league with 48BB in 10 games. Given I have the 29th rated pitching staff and some have bad BB/9 ratings, does this seem right to you guys?

Well the Blue Jays have the most walks in the league, 201 in 49 G...that's about 4 a game. So yeah your walks are definitely high. Probably 1.5 walks per game too much.

I'd rather be a little high than short. That number could shrink, and in our tests, we found that our walks varied from month to month. He's probably about 1 walk per game too high.

Edit: According to stats, from all the games combined, the total amount of walks per game is just south of 7, meaning about 3.5 per team.

Ok, so no sweat there. I kept saying to myself, "Red Sox are there, don't feel bad." haha On the contrary, I'm towards the top in Ks, and back at the bottom in runs. I just don't really feel cheated, just pissed when my team gives up that ill-timed homer. Only three games out, though...

Yes, that's high. But 10 games is tough to gauge things by.

You could always bump Consistency if it persists, but also keep in mind that sometimes you need to aim near the middle of the plate.

Keep an eye on it, for sure. But 4.8 BB's per game isn't unreasonable over such a small sample size. 2.5 over the next 10 and your stats will look great.

It just depends. Have you read through the thread for accuracy tips? You can definitely reduce BB's to a degree. Pitch confidence and placing the ballmarker closer to the zone will help.

Don't always let the ballmarker vibrate. Especially early in the count unless it's against top tier hitters in key situations. Aim it where you currently are, but bring it just a tad closer to the zone. This will make a world of difference.

And forget low confidence pitches in 3-0, 3-1 situations for now.
