Man, this thread sounds like the guard scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Tap the R-stick to influence the hit before a pitch. Period. It works whether or not you guess the pitch/location correctly. Or whether you even guess at all. It has nothing to do with guessing.

The L-stick is used to make *contact* if you mis-guess the location (or don't guess). It has little to do with the type of hit, but of course baseball physics will influence the hit (outside pitches will likely go opposite field, etc.).

The R-stick just determines what the batter is *trying* to do. It's a risk because if the batter is looking to pull and the pitch is outside he'll probably make very weak contact.

Ya but i hope you realize that you can play this game JUST LIKE MVP BASEBALL, you can just go ahead and swing in the zone and actually influence the ball(where you want it to after you swing) using the L stick. I know cuz before learning all this stuff i was playing mvp style and actually got home runs, hits ect..

Yo brunnoce, the set of sliders doesn't allow me to do HOME RUNS even set at 8. I can get hits and all that but i can't seem to hit homers with anybody in about 6 straight games WHEN I DO HIT IT they look like homeruns but its really a fly ball, basically a **** load of fly balls were seen in 6 games. I can get runs produtions with hits and stuff but i wouldn't mind hitting a homerun more constantly.

well with 8 i found my self hitting 7 HR with the padres in one game..so i dont have any problems hitting them..(as i told oyu i awals hit Rstick up, to influence fly ball, and i usually wait a correct guessed pitch (location and typE) to swing, speacilly with power hitters...trust me doing this, you will hit HRs..just need to be patient and get something good to hit..and also offcourse its way more difiicult to hit HR against ace pitchers..like RJ evan if i guess right the pitch most of the thime i will ground out or fly out..wich is realistc cause it isnt that easy turn a 99mph fast ball into the stands....
anyway i back now playing with 7 for power..i played 4 full games with 8 and i won all of them socoring at least 8 runs and 10 hits..about 3 HRs each game.. so i got back to 7 and i had a GREAT game..it was amazing real

this was maybe the greatest game i ever played...both Smoltz and RJ had a good game..but Smoltz definatly deserved the W...the game was all about pitching until the top of the 5, when nobody had gotten any runs , and only one hit to atlanta so far, than with 2out RJ walked R.Mondesi, it was ok until a error by Matsui who bobbeled in a routine flyball to the RF ending with Mondesi in tird and Brian Jordan in first, than came R.Furcal to the deck and guess what with a 2-2 count he belleted one to the LF at first i thought Sheffield had the play but he missed the sliding catch and Furcal ended in tird witha a 2rbi triple. this is something i love in this game..the diferent quality of defense..in this play i am sure if it was a better OF it would be a routine flyball...so this time both Matsui and Sheffield screwed RJ...anyway..after i got a rbi double with A.Jones in the 6th over RJ...than they got a rbi single from Sheffield after a error by Giles that put walked Jeter in second base, and in the 9th i got a solo shot with A.Jones tho the RF post and they got a 2out solo HR by Sheffield in the bottom of the 9th over Kolb.that was it..i just pray i willl have more of those kind of games..seemd so real!!

well that it..about the lack of HR for you i advise what until you guess right the pitch and location..than tap right stick up and than i also aim(i dont know if it hleps, but i am getting more hr this way) left stick to where the red spot is.

hey brunoce,

this is kinda unrealisitic to hit homerruns IMO....it's kinda like the MVP way of hitting HRs aiming the stick up....can u get homeruns just by pure swings instead of aiming the influence ? it's much more realistic and more satisfying....i mean 7 HRs in one game is way overboard but then again ure using that technique....

so what u think power shoudl be set at to get "pure swing" HRs ....i have mine set at 11 and contact at 1...yes i guess pitches but nerver use that influence to hit HRs ...anyways...thanks for ur thoughts

no man...i dont think its unrealistc..what youre doing isnt influencing HR, but influencing flyballs..what alot of major league player do..its like the other guy said when you hit up, its not like youre going to hit 7 HR a game or youre awqays gonna hit flyballs...its like youre telling your player to try a flyball..also i hitted 7 hr a game cause i was with 8 for power and i was damn luck i got about 15 correct guessed picthes(location and type)wich is pretty damn hard to happend again..wich is also realistc in a certain way, i think the mets hit 7hr couple of game ago..anyway the problem of setting the power to get free swings HR (although i do get them, rarely, and i think its realistc, as usually player hit homers when they are "sitting" on a pitch) but the problem is that you will get maybe 2 or 3 HR and 22 singles..you get it? i mean with the power high enough to get free swings HR at least in veteran mode you will get way to many hits...so thats way i like the game just the way it plays...an i think its the most realistic as possible..some people say that its arcady the guess pitch feature, but i dont...i think first of all its a matter of taste, and also i like it coz you feel just like the pros when they are sitting on pitches..
anyway..thats it..

also i think that for free swing you should try something aroud 10power and 5 ocntac..

Damn man wtf, why must everything be a damn HIT for the cpu?. when i pitch the cpu ends up getting freaking hits, i want to dominate or atleast keep it normal and not have them get contact that **** turns out being a hit.

explain to me the damn pitching meter works cuz sometimes i got control of it but other times it makes me mad. cuz i get the maker on the WHITE AREA and it is still called a ball or the cpu ends up getting hits it and they start to rally, it pisses me off!.

man i found out that meter is all about practicing..
i am almost master it now..when pitching with acers i get very good result...i still struggle with relivers..but iam doing ok with relivers..i would suggest that you lower the AI contact and power in the same ratio like 13/5 -12/4-11/3...i am playing with 12/4 now..and they score in diferent ways..from long shots to small ball..

anyway hows it going with the HRs? did my tips did any good?

also you need to hit the yellow whitish line in the white area to get a good picht..it still not perfect..it depends to much on your pitchers pitch ratings..

I know cuz i have played games when i can get the AI to react realistic, but other times i am in a game and the AI just pisses me off cuz everything i throw at them is a freaking hit, it made me soo mad i just turned off the ps2.

maybe the AI power slider is too high, i will try 7 and 2 for the AI tomorrow.

oh btw your tip worked today, i hit a homerun with A-rod but in the same game the stupid cpu always getting contact pissed me off and i turned off the game, everything can't be a hit from the AI...i will mess with the sliders cuz i see the cpu is too powerful.

hey about this ai thing..make sure to take out your pitcher if hes confidence is to low..and alsoif you fell the ai is hitting everything start pitching outside evan giving walks..specially for good players..in that game i won with atlanta i walked 3 guys in 2 inn with my relivers..when i felted that the ai was hitting everything in the zone..but i also got 2ks..so i think its a matter of tatics..

and also i think you should try 7/2 for the ai, but i really dont belive it will work..maybe you should try 10/3 ..i think the power needs to be atleast 10 for the ai..otherwse they wont hit any extrabase hits.
i would suggest you try first 12/4 than if you still doesnt like, 11/3 and finnaly 10/3 not contact less than 3 neither..thats my opinion

i will try this cuz the AI is too powerful with those pared settings your sliders have. i think they work on allstar but not veteran.

but in veteran the ai is weaker batting than in allstar...
anyway you need to try until you find something that suits your game play..
now i will star playing with strike zone and hotcold zones off..as i was getting to many ks..
i played a WAS@BAL(me) with cabrera on the mound and i strikeout 11 guys in 6 inn..that is almost impossible from this guy..
look at his line:

i think that just too much from him..and i think that with those things off i will walk more people and also get more walks..

i remember now..one last tip for pitching..try settingup pitch speeds..like fastball(wich can be 4sfb, 2sfb and splt) , than fastball than my killer pitch(when the pitcher has it) a change up in the low outside corner(it will break just off the zone.. with this pitch i am striking out a bunch of people..but you need to make sure you dont throw a changeup before that otherwise they will know the timming of your CH...

I tried contact 4 and power 12 for the AI and 3 and 10 for me and i ended up with this boxscore.

oh and you telling me that you pitch with cold zones on?, dude you should had turned that off the first day you got the game. it is more of a challenge and it is more realistic in terms of pitching. i just leave the strike zone on.

its quite realistc that box..but 10 is too much for me..with 8 i can hit way too many HRs...
anyway, about the hotcold zones, i liked cause its kind of a scout report on a player..you know like a guy saying to your pitcher, dont pitch up agains that player or the other one..
