Re: O.S.F.M. 2015 Recruiting(joint ops with Hybrid Set)
I am able to do some teams this year. Give me the NL Central, only team I really care about is the Cubs but I can help out with any other team if needed. I'm going to spring training to see the Cubs in action so I'll have batting stances/motions and pitch types for created players.Comment

Not sure if people assigned to teams will update the contracts as they go, but if not, I'm willing to go through all of the teams and update the contracts for every player.

The only thing is we will have to see how they affect everything in the franchise. I agree 100% with accuracy if it works

I was hoping you would volunteer again this year, any chance you can help again with the Hybrid as well?

I'm willing to help with contracts as well, something I've wanted in the game for a long time lol

This is true. One can only hope it works, or it becomes a pointless, teasing feature.

Maybe we should create a spreadsheet in Google docs?Comment

Re: O.S.F.M. 2015 Recruiting(joint ops with Hybrid Set)
We just need to keep in mind that the contract editor appeared good only for total contract length and amount. It does not appear that we can edit the individual years of each contract, so the yearly salaries will be off for escalating and de-escalating deals, although the total amount will be accurate. Good enough for now.
For those guys volunteering to do contracts, be careful about only including remaining years of multi-year deals. If a guy signed a 5 year $72MM contract in 2012, we don't care about 2012, 2013, and 2014 at this point.Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 02-28-2015, 04:20 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Good idea. I volunteered to do contracts several pages back, but people are not reading the thread and keep popping in to volunteer to do the same thing (which is fine by me! lol. I have enough other stuff to do).

I'll use Jose Abreu as an example. He signed a 6 year, $68M contract before the 2014 season. The average yearly amount remaining for the rest of his contract is $11.87M. But if you take his entire contract total and divide that by 6, you end up with $11.34M. So we could edit him to have either 5 years, $11.34M or 5 years, $11.87M.Comment

The question is, do we take the average of what's remaining of the contract or the average of the entire deal?

The easiest way to find these contract breakdowns is to click on the contract "details" link near the top of the player's BRef page.
Easiest thing to do here is to recognize that the 2014 year at $7MM is past history and subtract 1 year and $7MM off the top.
Another way to do the same thing is looking at the same salary table, the BRef page for Abreu says "Does not include future salaries ($59.3M)"--that amount in parentheses is what's left on the deal. No subtraction required.
So for Abreu you'd just plug in 5 years and $59.3MM. We can't enter annual values, just totals.
The trickier issue for me is the vesting options. I'm not sure if we can edit them in or not, but it would involve judgment calls on what it likely to be achieved or not. As long as the people doing contracts are not oblivious to this issue, I can trust their judgment on whether Hamels is likely to pitch 400 IP over 2017+2018. Because...who really knows?Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 02-28-2015, 04:39 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: O.S.F.M. 2015 Recruiting(joint ops with Hybrid Set)
I'd suggest using the itemized breakdown by year and aggregating that. Take a look at Abreu's deal at BRef broken down by season:

As for keeping a spreadsheet of contracts, what makes the most sense to me is just adding a new column in the master spreadsheet that teeds and I have been working on. We could either add editing rights to certain people so they could input the values or we could ask people to send us the info and input it ourselves.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
