Re: What if I told you... that Roster Tools is BACK!
If I thought this would take a long time to complete, then I would probably say yes and release it. However, I don't think it will take me much longer, so I'm just going to hold everything for an official release.
As I've said previously, for those that remember the old Roster Tools program back in 2010, they know how special this thing was, and how greatly it improved the community. I want to do it and it's original creator, Bahnzo, justice by releasing a perfect spreadsheet.
I know credit for work is a big thing in this community, and as an IT professional myself, I agree whole heartily with that. Make no mistake that the majority of the work on this was done by Bahnzo. I have just fixed it, and I've improved upon it. But without Bahnzo's work, I would have never bothered with this. That's why I want to hold off, just making sure I do it justice. I hope to have it out as early as tomorrow evening. If I run into any glitches when I test, then I'll work on it more over the weekend.
I'm married with 2 children, so can't dedicate as much time to it as I'd like, but I will go on the record right now and say that I GUARANTEE it will be out by Thursday next week. That's a promise. Maybe sooner than that, but I want to give myself some wiggle room.PSN: Grits_N_Gravy_23Comment

Good question. Part of me thinks "Absolutely", while the perfectionist in me says

In it's current state, my file is formatted in .XLSX which to my knowledge is proprietary to Microsoft Office, therefore wouldn't be compatible. However, I would not be surprised if there is a workaround.
I'll try and see if I can find some more info on this and see if I can tweak the file and release a version for Open Office users, but right now it's not a priority until this version is complete.PSN: Grits_N_Gravy_23Comment

Re: What if I told you... that Roster Tools is BACK!
Just a status update, I had a MAJOR breakthrough on this with importing career statistics.
For those that read earlier posts, I said that this tool will only give you ratings for a player based on which YEAR you select. Well I have successfully imported the first career totals information. Now I just need to work with it and make sure there are no bugs.
This is HUGE for the user, because now you can choose to rate your player based on either a specific year, or their entire career.
I'll need to tweak formulas to weight career numbers, but I don't see this pushing back my earlier promised release date of Thursday. I plan to meet that commitment, and will work overnight each night this week on this if I have to.
But that's not all!
PITCHf/x data has been successfully added! Keep in mind, PITCHf/x data does not exist prior to 2007, so it is limited, but I have it for you in this spreadsheet!
That means accurate pitch assignments for each pitcher 2007-present on what they actually throw, as well as how the pitch breaks. The formulas for those are in the works.
But wait! There's more!
When available, I have real-life salary/contract info for a lot of players!
This info is not available for every player, it's based on availability from the data source, but it's there for a ton of your favorite players.
You all are going to love this release.PSN: Grits_N_Gravy_23Comment

Re: What if I told you... that Roster Tools is BACK!
I know this is probably a dumb question, as for the PITCHf/x is there or could there be a formula for break and control prior to 2007? I know the data isn't there but didn't know if you could BB/K or whatever other stats you could use . But I am totally pumped up about this releasethank you

Pitchers will have 2 sets of ratings. 1 set will be their "core" ratings, which is:
Stamina
Clutch
H/9
HR/9
K/9
BB/9
Durability
The spreadsheet will spit out ratings for all of those categories for ALL pitchers, regardless of the year they played.
Only pitchers from 2007-Present will have ratings for individual pitches (PITCHf/x), such as the velocity, break, control.PSN: Grits_N_Gravy_23Comment

One word of caution on the contracts part. That is optional correct? Franchise mode doesn't play well when you use real world contract values, it screws up with the ingame budgets. The teams have much less than real world budgets and the scale is totally different. Having accurate # of contract years however is a great thing to have and what most people edit.Comment

Re: What if I told you... that Roster Tools is BACK!
Yes, it is completely optional. It is just there as a visual aid. You can choose whether to use it or not. I just know it's a feature that has been requested in the past.PSN: Grits_N_Gravy_23Comment

That is freaking awesome. I can only imagine what OSFM would look like after spit out by this tool!
