Re: WTNY's 2015 Pitch Edits ( Please read the FAQ )

It's probably already been covered and I apologize if it has, but has anyone simmed ahead a few seasons to see if this helps to fix the issue with pitchers eventually dominating the league? This may help me decide if I want to wait on these rather than get too deep in my current franchise and end up wanting to start over. Thanks.

I don't think that's been possible yet because the edits are still being entered. Once they're entered then you guys can play around with testing whatever.

I definitely plan on doing a test sim before they are released just to be safe.

If you do, I would suggest comparing it to the OSFM v2 with no pitch edits to see what the effect is (if anything). It may be that there are issues with the OSFM roster to begin with although I haven't tested that roster and am not saying there is.

Played my first game with some of the edits I got in so far, Sale vs Kluber.... Kluber was FILTHY GOOD. Struck out 14 in 7 & 2/3 IP, had me looking foolish. Sale was equally good vs the CPU as well, with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings. Indians won 3-2 on a Brantley 3 run shot in the 5th, Sale's only mistake really all game. Love how these play, appreciate the work you have done a ton!

WTNY, thank you so much for this. I was going to wait for V2 to start a franchise, but now I'll wait until 55 is able to post the roster, as these just look so good. A huge thanks to both of you, job well done!

His 4-seamer moves less, only a 45 movement relative to other 4-seamers. One of the oddities about Brooks that I mentioned in the FAQ is that it lists ONLY "sinker" and no "2-seamer" although it might specify a 2-seam grip for a tiny minority of pitchers. The way to fix that is to go by "sinkers" that move more horizontally or more laterally and reclassify some to 2-seamer depending on that.

                  2. It's strange because I was also a bit skeptical of the really low movement/control ratings for some guys, but these edits play great and makes me think that perhaps some of the stock ratings were done randomly? What I'm thinking is maybe if it's a "name" pitcher, they just make it a high rating and if it's not, they give a lower rating. I'm sure SCEA has a system, and who knows..it could be amazing..but if there IS a system that SCEA uses for the stock pitch data, I haven't been able to figure it out yet. And, moreover, it doesn't seem to match well with current PITCHf/x data.

I have felt that way for a while now with the way SCEA rates pitchers, if a pitcher is a house hold name, and especially if its a big market team they tend to go overboard on command and go crazy with giving high movement ratings of pitches. IRL a pitch don't have to have a lot of break, its the late break that's key on pitches. Over the years of using pitch seanjeezy's pitch edits, the movement on pitches with movement being less hasn't had any less effect of getting hitters out either by K or weak hits.

That what originally worried me back when seanjeezy started doing the pitch edits, is that SCEA had did it this way for a reason by giving high movement on pitches, but it actually don't have anymore impact. Typically its soft tossers like a Bronson Arroyo that you will see a lot of break on pitches to where that pitch would need a high movement rating, so you replicate his pitches IRL, where guys with a power arm don't have as much movement but they get late movement on the pitch, which actually makes it harder to hit than a soft tosser with a lot of movement on the exact pitch.

I just want to say my hats off to WTNY on a outstanding job with these. We have already enter in his batter ratings from his excel sheet for this year. Now we plan on adding every player he has listed in this sheet to my MLB on FOX rosters. Any player not listed in his sheet will have the pitch edits still but they will be given what they had last year with OSFM V3 which will all blend in very nicely.

The roster set I am working on has everything from updated created faces, every real SCEA players real height and weight, equipment updates base off what the real players actually wear websites and mlb.tv along with these great pitch edits. Every player has been re-rated and every pitcher has pitch edits from MLB - single a players if it was available.

From ridin and OSFM, Willard and his team along with My MLB on FOX opening Day set gives the OS community a handful roster options this year.

Three questions regarding these pitch edits:

                      1. Do these edits change overall ratings of pitchers? Or does it just effect the movement/velocity/pitch type/etc of the pitches that they throw?

                      2. For those of us who play multiple year franchise, do these pitch edits throw off balance in later years of the franchise? To be more specific, after 2-3 years are rosters loaded with young pitchers because drafted players come in on a different rating scale then current pitchers who are adjusted with these edits?

                      3. Are all minor league pitchers included on this spreadsheet as well? I know all major league pitchers are included, but for those using OSFM as a base, I am curious if all the minor league pitchers will have these same edits. (Again, just curious if these edits effect the SCEA "ecosystem")

Special thanks to the OP for putting these together, as well as all forum members inputting the data!

                        1. No.

                        2. They have done simulations I believe and no issues. Being that pitch edits do not effect overall it won't really change stats...especially simmed games.

                        3. I don't know for sure but from looking at it myself it appears that most of them are, buy certainly not all. But for those who aren't edited it's most likely because the information just isn't readily available like it is with MLB pitchers.

overalls will change but only minimally. WTNY mentioned this in the FAQ

any ratings edits have the potential to upset the SCEA "ecosystem." There are a couple things to consider: how much do you trust SCEA ratings and how willing are you to make your own edits if you feel the need.

Minor league pitchfx info is scarce to non-existent or too small of a sample on brooks, so no, WTNY did not include all minor leaguers.

Pitch edits is damn addictive. Once you used to playing with them you can't play without them. For those that haven't experienced pitch edits they in for a true treat. I input some in last night just to try them out, man it feels like a whole different ball game. Can't wait til 55 release his rosters!
