Re: 2015 OSFM REVISION ROSTER v1 - Released
As an Astros' fan, Keuchel has been amazing. BUT, he's a ground ball pitcher so his H/9 is low, which in turn, gives him a lower OVR.
This roster has a "don't look at the ratings" outlook. Because what's more important? OVRs looking right with the expensive of unrealistic outcomes, or realistic outcomes with ratings being a little weird here and there?

Willard posted yesterday that these rosters are fine for multiple year franchises. I just want to understand how this "potential" issue is remedied. I do not use 30 team control, as I do not have the baseball knowledge to keep track of all 30 teams rosters on a year to year basis.
Please do not take this as complaining. I am just trying to understand how hybrid ratings work with drafted players on SCEA rating scales.
Thanks again to everyone for work on these rosters! If there is anywhere I can donate to the creators, I would be happy to do so.Comment

Re: 2015 OSFM REVISION ROSTER v1 - Released
I guess my only concern with the overall rating being out of whack (understanding the most important ratings are the individual ratings) is how the sony created rookies interact with these rosters. I am just concerned that after 2-3 years of franchise a ton of young prospects will be starting in place of veterans who they shouldnt be, just because their overall is higher due to SCEA rating being on a different scale.

Well said. OVR's mean nothing in the grand scheme aside from where guys line up in FA.
I will take a quick peak through them. The problem is they get messed up again as soon as you start your season, so they will be good through ST only. I usually take the time after Spring Training to go through each MLB team and correct them.
The other issue is aside from some very old school managers, most teams have different lineups all the time, and with adding the 15 day DL guys back to the bigs in some cases each team has yet to see the combo of players that are on their 25 man so I don't even have a real lineup to reference.
One thing I will double check before release again is making sure that players are in correct positions, permanent DH's are actual DH etc..

Whether you use this roster or SCEA rosters ratings, this is an issue. The draft picks are more like hockey or basketball where they are ready to jump in immediately which doesn't happen in baseball.
My personal cure is I actually edit in real minor league players who are not in the set over the draft picks and adjust their ratings. Another fix is just lowering their ratings before you start ST the following year. You can then make them what you want.
SMP- Great to see that you are back to revising these rosters. I appreciated you doing this for OSFM V.2..
For your adjustments you will be including the 3 CP's for each team, at each level?
Also, any chance you could revise this roster with all injured players (60 day DL included) on the active 40 man roster? I believe you did this for OSFM V2 and it was a great help to those of us not familiar with baseball enough to know the ins/outs of MLB rosters.
Thanks!!
If we add 60 day DL players in, then we need to arbitrary pick players to take off that teams respective 40 man, and then decide who shouldn't be in the bigs. That is a massive undertaking, it took me about 5 hours to do just the 15 day DL players and subsequent moves.
The closing pitcher thing should not be a big issue. It just makes every team look for more closers in trades but if you are doing 30 team control u can fix that anyway. In 5 years of using this roster I have never found this to be an issue. 90% of minor league closers are org filler guys who probably wouldn't be good enough to set up in the bigs let alone close.
If this is a big deal to the majority I will look into it though.

...and sometimes there might be a reasoning and some sense in a proposal even though it's lopsided. If so, you can go in and tweak the package for fairness and then do the deal. If you're not sure of if a deal is fair or not, refer to the Trade Discussion thread here at the boardsFormer modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Re: 2015 OSFM REVISION ROSTER v1 - Released
With all do respect, no matter what you guys do with the rosters, you won't be able to please everyone. I took this roster and simmed it this morning and at the end of the season, Clint Hurdle retired along with many top name players who still have a couple years left in the tank. So if people are looking for a roster that is going to play out for years, that is a pretty tough task to accomplish considering that people retire, and quit because of health reasons every year. And honestly, i know from my experience i usually make it through one season and by the time the next season starts MLB 16 will be out so the game will be obsolete and i will move on to the next one. I am sure about 90% of the gamers out there do the same as well.
My personal preference is to wait for this roster to come out cause it is such a great roster, pick the pirates, and start a franchise with them and make trades and what not throughout the season and try to get them into the world series. I do not look for perfection on lineups and such as i enjoy trying to maneuver trades throughout the season, just like real clubs do to try and build a championship team. With that said, I do feel like having 3 CP's per team is something that should be considered in the update. I understand that they are mostly filler players, but like i said after the 1st year of the franchise, how many people make it to the next year and if they do, things aren't perfect because of retirements and what not. Except for the few people that actually go and make everything IRL happen. Also, i prefer to have all the teams at full strength. Meaning i like to be able to play against Jose Fernanadez rather then have him sit in A ball cause he is always hurt. I do not like to move up top prospects though, them i like to wait until the time is right to move them up to the big leagues, just the MLB players that are hurt and deserve to be in the MLB rotations and lineups. I know its a headache moving players down and making subsequent moves that follow, but hey it is just a game and I like playing teams at full strength, and having trades and injuries happen throughout the season at random; because when it is all said and done at the end of the season retirements will happen and we all just want to win the World Series with our team!
So with that, people just need to decide on what there preference is and just take a roster and go with it and quit complaining cause there will never be a perfect roster for everyone. I would love to see this one have the 3 CP's and teams at full strength, but if i don't get that i will take an hour out of my day and make it to my liking, it's not that hard people. The hard part is already done, thanks to all the people that have been busting there butts on it the past 4 months. This is just my two cents.Comment

Re: 2015 OSFM REVISION ROSTER v1 - Released
It is much easier and I do not have to use 30 team control.
If I see a trade that I think is ridiculous, then I fix it by force trading those players back onto their teams through my team.
It accomplishes the same goal as 30 team control, I can still control ratings for opposing teams if need be (for rookies after the draft mainly), and then I can just play my game and not worry about keeping things "realistic" unless I see something that actually bothers me.Comment

Re: 2015 OSFM REVISION ROSTER v1 - Released
I vote for just making the edits SMP7 forwarded and getting out roster. I've been waiting every day for them to be final so to speak. There were some edits SMP7 pointed out and has made. It makes sense to wait for the next version since it is not clear all changes made. Otherwise, I would just make changes myself to v1 roster and start playing. But no one will ever create the perfect roster because every person has their own vision of the perfect roster. This roster is perfect enough me and should be for the masses. Any other changes someone else can make and post or just make on their own. I'd like to play today Sunday before the real world starts again tomorrow. Thanks Willard and your team!

Willard has some edits he is working on now that were going to be the basis for v1.2. Most of what I did was just additional cosmetic stuff (removing duplicates, importing players from the original OSFM when needed, updating transactions when possible, fixing lineups and rotations, etc.). Judging off the work Willard and his team have done with this roster, I assume v1.2 would have been well worth the wait even if I hadn't contributed. From my understanding, the roster should drop sooner than later.
Thanks for the kind words though. I'm pretty OCD about 99 percent of the things in my life (and considering I'm 22 that doesn't bode well for my future), and rosters are just one of those things I want (scratch that, need) to be perfect before I use them. If I am able to take the stuff I do and share it with the community, I'm happy to do so. Enjoy the roster!Last edited by SMP7; 05-31-2015, 12:13 PM.Comment
