      Re: Bacon's 2016 Roster

So I'm sure that a number of people using my roster will continue to MLBTS16 while using it. If not, you still might like to see these edits.

I'll be importing created players over players who won't appear in the next version. For example, Tony Gwynn Jr. didn't appear in the Majors over the 2015 season so he will disappear once you transfer your franchise from '15 to '16. These edits will only happen for players who wouldn't be in '16 anyways so I will not replace players solely because they have a poor facescan like Todd Frazier, Shae Simmons or Daniel Coulombe because they'll likely have a better scan in the new game.

I'll also add a list of players who have been imported over into my spreadsheet which you can view by clicking on the link of the original OP.

Bacon what do you use when it comes to player potential? I love the rosters I just question some of the players potentials, yet when I go to change them something always pops in my mind that tells me you might have them there for a reason.

I was also wondering about some of the attributes, for instance Chase Anderson is a 73 but Taylor Jungmann is only a 69 even though he did pretty well last season in the Majors.

Once again I love the rosters and the work you are doing I'm just trying to get a better understanding.

For potential, it's mostly from articles and projections for certain players. I'm not 100% sure about what potential does exactly and I don't think anyone really knows if it's career trajectory or peak overall or overall at age 30. For prospects, potential is really tough and I really don't want to overrank them like I've seen in certain rosters so I downplay them a bit and they're able to improve their potential with good play in franchise mode, like when you see 'Overachieving' notifications.

Jungmann is a 69 pretty much only because he started the season in the minors. I downgraded most players who appeared in the bigs for the first time in 2015 because no one wants to see 80 ovr rookies. This adjustment was made to most players who debuted in 2015 or haven't played a full season in the league.

Thanks a bunch. I love hearing from people what they think of my roster and I'll give out as much information is needed for everyone to know why it is how it is.

Bacon96 v7 is now in the vault. I wanted to see how today's transactions panned out so I decided to wait until later in the day. The roster will include both the reported Guthrie and Gallardo signings from Saturday evening.

                Re: Bacon's 2016 Roster

You mentioned on the last page you use your own calculator for ratings, but how do you decide on splits for contact/power? Travis Shaw, for example, has a 99 contact vs. L, which would make sense if you're looking at his .329 average last year versus lefties, but that was over 82 at-bats so it's a tiny sample size. His minor league numbers (.232 in 95 AB in '15, .189 in 90 AB in '14, .230 in 135 AB in '13) suggest a more normal platoon split.

                Jon Jay's another one - 85 contact vs. L / 56 contact vs. R - I'm trying to figure out (.279 avg./16.6 K%/98 wrC+ vs. L, .289 avg./15.4 K%/110 wrC+ vs. R career).

I don't know what I'd suggest if there's a small sample size versus left-handed pitching (I wish Fangraphs had minor-league splits, maybe you know of a better source). Maybe sticking with the live roster (or your preferred roster) for that rating. I'm going with the last live roster's 66 contact vs. L / 72 power vs. L for Shaw, seems more likely to produce the kind of hitter he is.

This is a minor quibble, by the way, and I appreciate your apparent hard work on this set. I've already started a franchise on '15 with it and am happy with it, just noticed a few contact ratings that stuck out to me.

First off, for stats I usually use baseball reference.
With Travis Shaw (and basically any other player), I didn't dip into the minor league stats. It probably would've been better to leave him with whatever SCEA made his CONvL. That's probably what I'll do in the future if a player doesn't have like 100 PA vL/vR. (That's just off the top of my head.)
For Jon Jay, I think that I also used his 2014 split because he had something like 40 plate appearances v. lefties in 2015. I don't like using career splits so The Federalist's 85 rating was probably based off his 2014-15 .320 (33/103) batting average.
I also recently started a franchise with my roster and I'm very happy with how it turned out and I can't wait to start making rosters from MLBTS16.

Why Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber rated so low ?

                      Rollins to white sox

                      Fowler 1 year with Cubs

Coughlin traded to athletics for Brooks

Schwarber is a defensive liability in left and doesn't hit lefties great (.143/213/.268). He should probably be even lower but that was in only 61 PAs.
Bryant plays average D, strikes out a lot and doesn't hit lefties super well either (.246 average) but I gave him a little more arm strength so that should help.
It's also only their first season so I didn't want to jack them up like I've seen in other rosters and the potentials are both good so they'll definitely get better in franchise/rtts.

The transactions you listed will be in the next update that will be uploaded on Saturday 2/27.

No doubt about it. Some the best roster work I have have seen. No going into it again because it your choice and your roster. I am slowly teaching myself how to edit so that I can use this roster on '16.
