On the brink of elimination, I brought the '57 Braves all the way back to take the ALDS from the '54 Giants in 5 games. Pitching was the calling card for the Braves as Bob Buhl and Warren Spahn held the Giants to 6 hits and 2 runs combined in the final 2 games of the series.
In Game 4, Buhl quieted the hometown crowd with a masterful outing going 8 complete allowing only 2 hits and striking out 5. Buhl also added an RBI single. Don McMahon locked it down in the 9th for his second save of the series. The key hit that gave the Braves some breathing room was a 2 run pinch hit single by Frank Torre in the 7th. Torre came on for Joe Adcock who was struggling throughout the game at the plate.

In the series deciding game, it was a re-match of Game 1 starters with the Braves' Warren Spahn facing off against the Giants' Johnny Antonelli. Spahn bested Antonelli a second tim, and once again, Braves' pitching took matters into their own hands as Spahn buggy whipped a two run homer into the right field seats on an Antonelli changeup. On the bump, Spahn was brilliant firing 7 innings of shutout ball allowing only 4 hits. Eddie Mathews chimed in with his second dinger of the series launching a solo blast to dead center for insurance

Great to be finally playing this game once again. The ALCS will see the '04 Red Sox against the '05 White Sox while the Senior Circuit will feature the '69 Cubs against the Braves.
