Check this out guys, kind of a major update.
So I've been making good progress, down to 2 and a half teams left and then just stances/deliveries.
But remember when I said just when you think you're finished something new pops up?
So check this out, this is very, very cool.
I gathered all of the rosters from people who played a game in the minor leagues during the 1998 season. I pulled this data from statistics. A very large number of draft picks played at some level in 98 and were included, but here's where it gets good.
I was browsing drafts by year/team just for the hell of it and I noticed there were a few players drafted in 98 that didn't actually play a game that season. Almost all of the other players drafted did, but not these 10-15% of guys.
It doesn't sound like a big deal, but some of these names are huge upgrades to some clubs that are either much needed or just overkill.
We're talking major A potential talent like Ryan Braun, Mark Mulder, Barry Zito, Cliff Lee, etc.. etc...
These guys all technically were playing ball and were technically a part of that club, so I said let's do it. Let's put these guys in the game because it's way better with them than without them.
Take Baltimore for example. They come to mind as probably the least stacked system off the top of my head. They get a huge boost from adding Cliff Lee.
The absolute best part about all of this is that it won't take me very long to do. Some teams already have all their picks in game or didn't draft anyone relevant. This changes entire foundations of certain organizations and could be the difference in teams like Oakland's chances at making a playoff run. (Kenny Rogers is a good starter and they now have Mulder joining fellow prospect Tim Hudson in the minors. Noted that Barry Zito was not drafted by the A's or with them in this set)
Also a note on ratings. I leaned more towards rated higher than rated lower if that makes sense. Overalls should be pretty reasonable, but some 19 year old sluggers like Adam Dunn may have a 44 and 48 in power and a low vision or some kind of trade off like fielding. A lot depends on how far out they were from either playing the majors or how long before they started playing well in the majors. Like I said, rather than nerf the hell out of some big names I gave them a little pop instead. It's for fun. If you bring them up in year 2 of franchise and have a 20 year old prospect with 55 in power so what. That should amount to maybe 15-20+ home runs depending on how things out usually in my understanding. I'd say that's reasonable, especially if the guy strikes out 90+ times. These are for fun no doubt, but I promise I've kept realism in mind. I wouldn't do this any other way
