But to answer your question I am playing at 6 speed currently and I seem to get plenty of GOOD contact when it comes to the off speed stuff and GOOD to LATE on the fastballs, so I think my timing seems fine. It just seems to be the ratings of the pitchers really is playing a huge part, which is fantastic. Thank you guys for the constructive feedback!
Throughout the year guys get hot and slump. I think it is based on situations but partially just programmed. Sometimes guys just get hits no matter what dinky contact and other times you smoke a ball strait into a fielders glove. Hope it comes around, I know how frustrating hitting good balls for outs is.

Of course we all try to do this but getting an early lead is huge. (I am amazed how much analytics are put into this game, The Show developers are definately stat gurus) Pitching confidence in my opinion is a big factor in how succesful the guy on the mound is. An example if Scherzer gets an early couple strike outs and an early lead, his confidence gets full and hitting becomes "maybe he will walk me". lol Though with full confidence he will not. Of course get an early lead on him and keep the preasure on him and he may be gone in six innings and you can slap doubles off The Green Monster! Of course this is fairly accurate, I do not know the exact numbers but I bet when Scherzer gets a couple run lead in the first few innings his win percentage is sky high.

It is easier said than done to get the early lead and stop Scherzer from setting down the side.

Sounds like your average will come up as you are making good contact. I think I tend to be slightly late and my average is about where it should be. The Show seems to be better and better the larger the sample.

If you do not mind what is your win loss? and also keep me updated on your stats and season.

How is your pitching going? I was going to play as the Sox but feared the pitching staff was not good enough (for me to be successful) and also the age of players for long term deterred me. I like to keep my guys as long as possible. I thought about taking the Sox and trading for Lester and maybe old Lackey to reunite that staff. In the end it seemed cheesie as the Sox would never do it and the Cubs definately invested too much in Lester to agree in real life to any reasonable trade. Would be fun to get Elsbury and those pitchers and maybe Salty back and make another run, though I think that would be a budget buster haha. I think Elsbury makes like 11 million or something which is way too much. Being a huge Sox fan Elsbury being on the Yanks is tough and when Lester left I was pretty down for a spell.

sorry for another long post... I just love this game and talking it and baseball.

I honestly think my perception of how my batting should be is warped by what I have been seeing from the offense in real life. Betts for me is hitting an embarrassing .068, but in real life he is .229 as of yesterday I think? But I completely agree with confidence being huge. I was facing Stephen Strausburg who struggled his first in his season opener and was sporting a 5.68 ERA coming in and he couldn't hit his spots in the bottom on the 1st and 2nd, which I used to my advantage as I took a 2-1 lead. However, they answered back fairly quick since Wade was on the mound for me. Strasburgs confidence didn't really get above 75% which was great because it gave me the opportunity to take a 4-2 lead to the 8th. Then the relief dropped the ball as Munica gave up a walk and a single....then Jason Werth came up with his unreal .460 AVG and doubled to tie on a double. I pulled the plug, but it was too late as the got another single and made it 5-4 to win the game. But to answer you questions, I am 2-5 on the season and the pitching has been good from the rotation so far, it's just lack of relief and offense that has me losing games. I have considered trading for Salty as the C for the Sox are very poor offensively, but have done wonders for me on D. I have been at work thinking of trades/call ups I need to make in order to add depth to my bench as I am already seeing it's going to be a challenge handling the fatigue of the team and balancing who is going to play on what day to keep things under control.

Curious to hear of other people's experience with GIDP. 100+ games in and I am currently first in this category by nearly 30. Honestly it seems like I hit into and benefit from double plays more than I should. This is even with trying to be smart about the situation and lift the ball etc. It has gotten bad enough that I play small ball more than I would like to, and everytime I lay down a bunt with Adam Lind, a part of me dies inside ha. Anyone else experiencing this?

It does stink when someone in real mlb is hotting way above where our guys are. I bet he will get hot in game.

Having catchers who can hit a tad is a huge plus. For me Montero hits righties and Castillo hits lefties, which means I can rest them depending on starter and avoid the fatigue issues. Honestly managing fatigue of position players is a challenge for me. I always feel like my guys have more off days then is realistic but it seems do be balancing out down the stretch. Just felt strange giving a starting outfielder a day off in the first two weeks of the year. I think the rate of fatigue is the same in April as August, thus over a year games played balances out. It just, in my opinion early on feels like a lot of rest days.

Thanks for the update and best of luck headed forward.

It's a legacy thing for me at this point. I have never been able to combat the perchant for users hitting into more DP's than the rest of the league. Seems like I always lead as well.

I have learned to accept it.

I do a decent amount of hit and runs to avoid it and it works a good amount of times. It is a risky move but I have been avoiding them a lot more recently.

I play extreme small ball and only Rizzo does not bunt to advance runners. That said, it does seem really easy to hit into double plays. I never use directional hitting, only try timing for pulls and pitch location for lifting the ball or hitting grounders.

                  Questions,
does pushing up on left stick-
swing up topping the ball, thus causing a grounder?
swing up getting under the ball causing lift?

does pushing down on left stick-
swing down causing getting under the ball?
or is it a down swing tops the ball?

pushing away to the right on left stick-(for right hander)
swing extension causing ball to be pulled?
or swing to push the ball opposite field? (what I would think)

I never use it because I am so dyslexic, it seems crazy to figure out, for me anyhow. The left or right side swing I would think hits way you push the left stick. But up seems like it would cause a high swing and grounder. Or maybe haha a looping swing for a pop up... IDK

When I push up the camera shifts up making me expect grounders but again I am lost and never ever use it as I am unsure.

Holding up on the Left Stick is supposed to help influence fly balls, and I do use it in certain spots (runners on the corners with 1 out and a 2-1 count), but even using it I have not noticed much difference with DP balls. It is probably just a legacy thing as Armor noted and just something to deal with.

On a side note, I played a game last night where Buster Posey hit a screamer at Ramirez on third. It actually bounced off his glove from one of those defensive "oh man this is coming at me really fast protect yourself" animations", and shot up into the air and out towards shallow left field where Jean Segura was able to make a diving catch on it. Coolest defensive play I have ever saw on The Show, and first time I have EVER saw a ball deflected and caught like that for an out (I have saw the ground ball deflections, the poor pitchers this year are getting wrecked with them ha). The more I play this game the more I think it might be the best sports game ever made, very well done this year SCEA.

I would also look at location and pitch type on the Double Play pitches. I found myself hitting into A LOT of double plays early on, especially with how strong change-ups and splitters become if those pitch confidences get high. If i have someone on base, I am expecting a low fastball, or change-up, and not swinging at those pitches unless necessary. I look for something in the top half of the strike zone. Pitchers in this game are VERY smart and know with people on base, they want a ground ball. And if you have been swinging at those changeups all day, they will hammer the bottom half of the strikezone with them, inducing ground balls.

Sorry for the rambling response but hopefully with some practice and patience, you will be able to adjust and get better.

I just played the first game of The Show ever that made me literally throw my controller at the wall. I struck out 21 times! Seriously the closest I've ever come to breaking the game in half. Granted it went 14 innings and I won 1-0 but still. I've never been so pissed after a win in my life. I am using an edited roster and some of these pitch speed differentials are still a complete joke. Alex Torres struck me out 7 damn times in 3 innings. The game before I struck out 15 times. I've never struck out so damn much in The Show than I have this year. It's beyond frustrating and sucks all the enjoyment out of it for me.

                        Sorry, had to vent somewhere.

                        Surprisingly, my controller survived.

These last few days I have been striking out ALOT but regarding pitch speed differentials QuestGAV posted this link in Willards thread that corrects some of the pitchers speed with the changeups, take a look.

Yup. I have all of these changes already input on my roster. Did it the other day.

I am so frustrated with the game right now it may be time to take a break and let my wife know I haven't forgotten about her. Heh.

Completely off topic but do benches ever clear for brawls?

Can you argue calls? Not talking about the chalenge replay thing, just plain argue calls.

I play with ejections on, what gets one ejected? I am assuming pegging batters, which I do not do as we are well disciplened haha
