Re: TNK & PsychoBulk 2016 Sliders

Just got owned by the Cards 5-1. I was the Bucos. Another low scoring affair but it felt right as Neise got rocked for 5 earned against a dominant Wacha. 9 hits to 6 felt pretty good. I WANT to see sliders that make the better pitcher shine and the lower ones struggle. Off to play another. Will report back.

.....and i swear I'm seeing better terrific animations.

For the guy above getting too much offense.... I can speak from experience that classic pitching will give you higher scores than meter pitching.

I actually do not mind the offense against me. I was using #5 starter Eovaldi, and I actually got through 5 innings with him and got the win, after being down 6-1 through 4 innings!

So alot of it had to do with the pitcher and me getting used to missing my pitches with new sliders. I eventually settled down and things were pretty normal.

My offensive outburst raised an eyebrow though, so I just wanted to point out how lopsided these games can get, and something to factor in when I look back at how the sliders are performing after 10-15 games.

I will reserve my final judgement/recommendations for that time.

Getting way too much offense. Hitting 3-6 home runs a game. Last three games I scored 11, 10, 15 runs. The CPU strikes out alot, with my pitchers usually getting 8-12 strikeouts, and the hits they do get usually always end up as home runs, mostly wall-scrapers. I think maybe bumping power down 1 as suggested earlier in this thread may help balance it out? Have been shutting down the CPU offense as well.

Another low scorer. Actually, as "low" as you can possibly go.

I'm hesitant to overreact to one game being so low scoring with two of the game's most dominant pitchers, but I'm just finding it to be like I'm on cruise control when pitching. Sure, it's easier with MadBum, but I barely have to give placement much thought, just point it where my catcher recommends, do my best to get it there, and the CPU usually flails away helplessly.

I think my next game will be with one of the weaker SP in the game against one of the best hitting teams in the league (suggestions?)

I'll give it a few more tries here, but I'm just not getting much push back from the CPU at all.

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk 2016 Sliders

I know I said I would play 10-15 games....not possible....
I played 3rd game in a row where each team had over 12 hits, over 8 runs a piece.

Every mistake gets hit for HR by the CPU.
Note, I did not say it gets hit hard...it is literally a HR.

I think the problem is both Power and Contact as I mentioned before. The CPU Control and Human Control are both at 3, as per slider suggestion when you lower control you should lower contact to compensate, these sliders went opposite, and raised contact....this basically makes Contact = 8...and it shows as there are very few swings and misses when ball is in the zone even on late/early swings.

Since control is 3 for both, I lowered Contact back to 5 for both.
I do not think Power was ever an issue with the game. Out of the box I hit HRs with Gardner, Didi Gregorius, Omar Infante, etc...So you will hit HRs with the little guys....to compensate I raised Solid Hits to 5 for both as well. I mentioned earlier, and I am seeing it across the games I played...there are too many HRs and no doubles. Every time you square something up its a HR, so to adjust I lowered Power, but raised Solid Hits, which will result in more liners on squared up pitches and less HRs (you will still hit HRs)

So naturally you ask, so you are hitting with default sliders?....yes and no.
Since control and pitcher consistency are lower, there will be more "meatballs". So while your hitting is on default, you will also get more pitches to hit based on more realistic pitching. There will be more balls thrown by both Human and CPU, so you will get into more hitters counts (if patient) and see more "get me over" fastballs and curves when ahead in the count...these can be timed and ripped...with adjusted Power/Contact/Solid Hits (all on default now) these will not always result in a HR like they seem to be now.

I will rock with these sliders for a bit as well, and see impact. I invite Pyscho and TNK (or anyone else) to comment and look into this as well if they are seeing too much offense.

Everything else feels good.

Fielder speed, throwing, ball:strike ratio, etc...its just the offense right now is a little too good for both sides.

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk 2016 Sliders

I just realised that TNK's strike zone was set to off in his settings, and thought I would give that a go. Wow, that made a difference. Much more realistic game, will have to see if this continues. But it's looking a lot better. Hitting was harder which obviously reduced the dominance against the CPU's pitching. Also Pitching was harder which meant that the CPU's offense slightly increased. Which for me has equaled much better results.

As El_MaYiMbE said everything else such as fielding, throwing etc seems to be spot on.

We once seemed to be lacking offense, power & solid hits were raised & now we seem to have too much offense...

There's probably middle ground here which TNK & PB will find...

There couldnt be two better consecutive posts here to illustrate the problem me and TNK have here.

One man says its still dead offensively...

What are we to do with such extreme feedback from either end of the spectrum?

I can only re-iterate what i said above.

Maybe your playing ability is simply too strong/weak for All-Star?

SO much of this is down to your abilities as a player and how you play the game.

If person A plays with the same sliders as person B with wildly differing results, then it suggest its the skillset of person A and B affecting the outcome more than the set.

If you pitch well on the black you will probably have more success in limiting the CPU while issuing walks. If you throw a load of junk you'll walk no-one and get hammered. Guess what - the sliders cant change this.

If you swing selectively and take pitchers strikes, you'll likely do better and get more walks etc. If you swing at crap you'll get no offensive success and never walk. Guess what - the sliders cant change this.

My suggestion if you are seeing too much/too little offense is to change your level first, play another 10 games on the new level with the same sliders then report back.

I think sometimes people have this idea that sliders will override their ability as game players and give them "MLB Average" games of baseball 9 times out of 10 - it just doesnt work like that.

...then the next man says every game is a run fest:

I agree with you but the only reason I am so "trigger happy" when it comes to changing sliders is because I am not a beast on default All-Star, I do okay. So when I play 3 games in a row and its hits-a-palooza and HR-palooza I think its more than a coincidence. However, I think your sliders remedy alot of what I see wrong with game...(OF speed, Reacting, CPU/Human pitching being too accurate, etc..)

I think it is an awesome base set, but hitting is overpowered (for me...I understand everyone is unique)
One question I have for guy who said he is getting no offense...are you using the rosters from vault, not the original test set right?

One other thing I would change regardless if you are killing the ball or struggling is fielder reaction speed needs to be back at default. On 6 you can see the players "twitch" unnaturally, almost like when someone walks in on you when you arent doing what you are supposed to!

Fielder Reaction @ 6 makes IF get to ball too fast and make less plays to their sides, and OFs are always waiting for liners as if it were hit right at them. SCEA made huge strides in making sure balls hit find the green more naturally and bumping Fielder Reaction takes away from that a bit.

Played the Brewers @ Cubs twice and I don't really see problems with the sliders tbh. Lost game 1 6-4 after Garza got rocked (which his ratings aren't that great anyway in the 50's so that's not surprising). Scooter Gennet had a solo homer to lead off the game after a 7 pitch at bat. Only 48 power but it was a fastball down the middle and Hammel's HR rating was 47. Makes sense. I think some of these offensive shootouts may simply have something to do with the Gennet/Hammels example. Bad pitches from pitchers who may be susceptible to the long ball

Won Game 2 5-1 with Nelson pitching hard into the 7th. Wasn't clear who would win until the 8th when Braun launched a grand slam into left and then the 'pen came in and shut things down the rest of the way.

Biggest key is to just work the count. Hammel was up to 55 pitches after just 2 innings in Game 1 because I was working 5-7 pitch at bats from every guy and the CPU just started throwing pitches over the plate or just tossing them outside hoping that I'll hit them (confidence was shot too after the 3rd).

One thing I have seen A LOT of are wild pitches and passed balls. Early I posted the Tigers/Twins match which made sense to have McCann who is not the greatest defensive catcher to miss a pitch or two and commit an error but I've been seeing the CPU catchers really just miss at least 1-2 pitches a game (McCann. Posey, Montero). Also I'm seeing 2-3 wild pitches a game that have led to runs which I wasn't seeing on out of the box sliders.

Also I've been seeing a healthy number of ground balls in addition to flyballs. Depends on the pitcher I think. 2 starts now with Jimmy Nelson and the infield was working constantly as his sinker was inducing grounders and popups. Garza on the other hand was leaving his fastball up and the Cubs either struck out on it or were slamming it for line drives and deep fly outs.

I've been tinkering with

Fielder Reaction at 5
Fielder Speed at 3

INF & OUTFIELD throw speed at 2
Baserunner Speed at 2

.....and I'm liking what I'm getting/seeing

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk 2016 Sliders

Guys....noticed an issue that may have been causing the likes of El Mayimbe excessive power issues.

TNK has mistakenly put HUM and CPU power at 6 in the set and the upload to the vault.

We agreed both should be default...5.

That could be why we are seeing different things Mayimbe as i inputted the set manually so have it at 5 and don't see too much excessive power.

If you downloaded the set from the vault you will have it at 6 which as i say is an error.

Make the change and try again then report back!
