So far for me, it appears contact is having a much bigger effect on offense than solid hits. Using similar slider settings to Nomo's except I had Solid Hits on 7, my offense actually decreased. My only gripe is contact settings can have too big an effect on other stats like K/BB ratio. It's still too few games to come to a conclusion, but I'm hoping we won't have to resort to compromising other stats in order to improve the overall offense.

Things are definitely looking better through 30 games offensively as we are seeing some of the #2 and #3 starters. Also SB attempts picking up to real life pace (success rate still not there) but moving closer. Hopefully Runs and Hits continue upwards as we hit back end of rotation guys.

That said, you could make an argument that if the offense is very low like this year, then we might be better of bumping up the overall offense by using Contact slider, find the level of offensive output that you feel you can do fine tuning better.
That decision needs to be made earlier (in order not to waste time adjusting a bunch of sliders), but I guess I am biased in a sense that, given the game has usually played solid out of the box, I should not resort to a major change first... and from what I can tell, it really seems to be the major issue is on batted balls not becoming safe hits, as I don't see whole a lot of issues in the discipline type of thing; if I can just adjust hit types, I'd rather work on them in some isolated manner.
I personally have always been fine letting the game play for the sake of testing (before starting a full franchise/RTTS, etc.) but if someone wants to start playing (rather than testing) right away, I would actually recommend bumping up Contact at this point though.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
So after 18 games or so (mostly pitches by aces and a few 2nd starters) I'm not seeing as drastic an improvement in the numbers that I was looking at.
Offense being down in those games are expected given the quality of starting pitchers, but I think there are some issues I want to take care of earlier than later (e.g., a bit high overall strike % and swing and miss % jumping up somehow), so I'm moving on to a new experimental set.
I will be making a bigger changes (dated 4/09) hopefully to make CPU produce more solid hits.

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
Actually, I should mention before I forget...
There is a bug that does not allow us to watch CPU vs. CPU games using a camera different from Broadcast. In the past we could use any camera (even custom) which often provided refreshing viewing experiences.
If you wish the devs to pay attention for a potential patch, please do upvote the bug report so that they won't be ignored:

Bug reporting is a tedium so not many do, but finding already-filed bug and upvoting is perhaps the most effective way to get the devs' attention.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
An update on the current test run with the 4/09 slider set is that I am pleased (more like relieved) to say that I'm finally bracketing the target offensive numbers, with the batting average around .260 and BABIP being .310. Aside from slightly inflated SO% and low SB%, things are looking fine. I will continue on with this setting for a bit longer to make sure that I observe stats stabilizing before I make the next set of adjustments.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
With the A's on the road and fighting the demotivation of taking care of the worst tedium that is tax return filing, it is a great time to suffer from sliderites...
So for this year's thread I'll try to be writing out the guideline that I have been personally using for the past several years to make all these slider adjustments.
Since I've made the biggest adjustment on it so far, I'll start with Solid Hits slider:
Eventually I'll be consolidating the info on the 1st or 2nd post on this thread, so if anyone has any feedback on what is written, please let me know so that I can make appropriate edits.
This way, even if I end up not making it to and back from O.co due to serendipitous encounter with stray bullets, people can still make slider adjustment to their liking without my presence.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
Your latest slider set results looks very encouraging! I gotta admit, at one point I was worried the CPU offense was broken. Especially after bumping Solid Hits way up, only to see the scoring go down. Then again, learning that slider only has an effect after contact makes perfectly sense.Comment

You never really know what goes behind in how the game is tuned out of the box, and basically for CPU vs. CPU it's figuring that out. I don't know why line drive fraction is so down out of the box this year, but it is entirely possible that the developers thought tuning the game differently was necessary because of the new precision input engine, etc.
Quite often there are reasons behind certain ways the game is tuned, but other times it looks something may be legitimately off-balance due to lack of development time, etc... Can be frustrating for users, but kinda interesting as well.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
Looks like Contact +1 isn't quite enough to bring overall offense. Not very surprising given I literally am jacking up Solid Hit and added some more help (Timing +2 and Pitcher Control -2) to finally bring the offense to decent level.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 16 Version]
Just want to add that there is pretty definitive proof of the slider working this way in the game, now that we can see the hit speed displayed after contact.
But I want to say that it's pretty well balanced to real life on default.
I wrote up a post earlier that's semi-related to this topic (though it's more about the addition of hit speed in general):

Am I on the right track?
BTW, LOVE these slider breakdowns.Comment
