The Cubs would do that trade without hesitation to get out from under that horrific contract...

Yeah I would think so. Both are on expiring deals and are owed collectively about 14.5 million. Not even considering Markakis and Suzuki this year are producing nicely for what is asked of them. They would both not only fit easily into this year's cubs roster and add some production but the biggest value for the cubs is getting out from Heywards deal. Normally for a team like the cubs isn't a franchise crippler, but considering a certain right fielder is a free agent this winter I know as well as anyone the cubs will be interested and without Heyward and his contract, they would have to be favorites to land him. The only realistic way I'd see Heyward moved is in a bad money swap. Just my two cents.

Armor, I know you're rocking franchises with both the OSFM and the Hybrid rosters.

I'm wondering if you're seeing any more difficulty hitting with the Hybrid roster. I was using a set that seemed quite dialed in with the OSFM roster, then when the hybrid dropped I seemed not to be able to hit at all to save my life.

I'm wondering if you've had a similar experience and have had to re-tune to CPU pitching or HUM hitting slightly to adjust to the different way Hybrid pitchers pitch, or if you've found them playing basically the same as the OSFM pitchers in your franchise.

          Thanks in advance!

Not Armor, obviously. But am also using the Hybrid roster, and am not seeing any noticeable difference in regards to my offensive production, 10 games into my franchise. Maybe you're just experiencing one of those ruts, where the bats go quiet.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

My struggle is that I've been playing MLB 2K13 for the last 5 years (as a 360 user who never owned a PS). I just switched over to MLBTS, and I LOVE it - BUT, I have a learning curve with the muscle-memory stuff on the controller. Also, the hitting in MLBTS is a bit harder for me because I have to be more patient at the plate and wait a bit longer for the ball-on-bat physics.

I've found pitching to be easy to pick up on and I use the pitch meter - still toying with some difficulty stuff. I'm updating my rosters based upon the awesome stuff the OSFM team provides, so I just want to get the feel for things before starting my franchise.

I also struggle with baserunning as the controller options are slightly different. I know you "lifers" of MLBTS might see the warts in this game - and there are some - but as someone new to this title I really appreciate the helpful sliders here as a base to help me get started. I've tinkered with some camera views but really this set was the foundation I needed - having read over all the notes and rationale for them. So I just wanted to say thanks for all the input here and what you guys do!

If you really want a table top baseball type of experience...embrace Classic Pitching, drop the meter and go with a totally clean screen approach.

                Baseball gaming nirvana.

Not intending to hijack this thread but there is a lot of experience in this thread when it comes to sliders and I’m looking for your thoughts/opinions. Since 1.10 my contact rate on well timed swings has been lower then pre 1.10. 1.11 has improved that somewhat but not enough for my skill level. I have experimented with raising hum sold hits +1 to 6. This seems to be a bit much. 5.5 would be perfect but I obviously don’t have that option. What other slider could I decrease by 1 to balance out the op of human solid hits at 6? I’ve experimented with timing at 4 and human solid hits at 6 and it seems to be a good balance but I would love to get some of your opinions. Thanks!

In the games I've played since the latest patch, I find I dominate in pitching and neither myself or the cpu can get hits. I just raised both user and cpu contact to 6 and giving this a try. I might experiment with some other combinations, but I was tired of seeing a lower rated pitcher strike out 8-10 batters a game and give up 4-5 hits per 7 innings pitched. So I don't know how this will translate, but I appreciated your thought here as I'm seeing less hitting and a more pitching-dominated game. Thanks!

And it has been quite the opposite for me. Bombs are flying all over the park vs my Yankees as I have dropped 3 straight and my pitchers have been lit up like Christmas trees.

I always say.....trust the settings, trust the settings. Keep playing. This game has peaks and valleys, streaks both hot and cold, pitching can dominate for a stretch then all of a sudden you can't keep balls in the park.

Also meter pitching.....eventually you can master that thing to a point of too much user input. Just my opinion. If you are looking for simulation/ratings dice roll related results with user input. It has to be Directional hitting and classic pitching.

Just my opinion of course. I was a zone hitter and meter pitcher when I first started playing this series. But then discovered timed/classic. I never went back.

To the poster above...solid hits to 6 then move down contact to 4. keep power at 5.

Anyway....I always repeat myself. Stick with the settings as long as you can and don't let a 5-10 even 15 game stretch make you question things.

But everyone has different skill levels too. It is really hard to know.

Quick question about pitch speeds, Armor. I remember you mentioning your reasoning before in having offspeed pitch speed one notch higher than fastball pitch speed. I skimmed through the thread today but couldnt find it so i thought i would ask...

If i remember correctly (?), you said the default/osfm rosters give too much disparity between changeups and fastballs (more than the real life difference), is that right?

I was also wondering what your observations were when you had the pitch speed sliders equal? With the pitch sliders set equally, did you find that there were too many swings and misses at early pitches? Or do you think it would just throw timing off where we would have too much bad contact due to being too early, etc?

I think you had also mentioned that Hybrid rosters may fix the disparity in the pitch edits, which might remove the need for bumping up offspeed pitch speed. Having used Hybrid now, do you believe this to be the case this year?

Ok so my one quick question turned into a few as i was typing lol. Sorry for having you hash this out if you've already done it.

Same here Armor. I just got blasted by the Twins in 3 of 4 games. They just kept hitting bombs. I was outhomered in the series something like 13-6, with 3 of mine coming from Judge.

So just been going through Spring Training, before Year 3 (day 2019), in my Astros carry over franchise. Team has played pretty well. AJ Pollock our main FA signing has slotted into the 2 spot nicely hitting over .300 and 7 HRs.

One big down note though is what just happened in the penultimate game of ST. Brian McCann collapsed running to 1B and was seen beating the turf in agony holding his achilles and unfortunately the worst fears were confirmed later that day. He tore his achilles tendon and will be out for over 6 months!

Not only will that obviously end his season but at 35 it could end his career. Would be a sad way to go out especially after he bounced back in Year 2 (2018) hitting a career high 41 HRs.

The Astros may now look into possible trades/free agents for a Catcher but for the immediate future veteran Juan Centeno may well get the starting role to begin the season which would be a considerable downgrade both offensively and defensively.
