I love quick counts too. However, I can't stand when a new pitcher comes in for CPU and they start you with a 2 strike count. Really feels unfair as you don't get to see a pitch before having 2 strikes.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
So I lowered the speed back to 4 and 5 and I was getting a lot better hit variety. But in the 10 games I was walking about 4.5 times a game and my BABIP was a little high at .326 with a batting average at .285. So I went back and raised pitch speed to 5 and 6 and I feel like I’m getting more pop ups again. A lot of home runs and pop ups. What can I lower to offset the slower pitch speed? Contact or timing or solid hits?Comment

Oh man....I know this conundrum well...my timing was hyper-sensitive to pitch speed. I had to have it at just the right setting to get the proper hit variety (but I still would have issues).
The change that made the biggest impact for me; I changed my camera to "retro" (I can't remember what I was using before, but it was one that was angled vertically). Retro is a good "behind-the-back" view and I can a) adjust much better to pitch speeds and b) see low pitches much better.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I have been using Mlb the show 15 view. But I love Fish Eye 2 cause you see the whole ballpark. But I have trouble picking up the ball. I can try to lower the pitch speed and go to Fish Eye 2. With that angle it is hard for me to notice high and low pitches.
I love the whole ballpark in view especially the beautiful parks. But the only bad thing is you can’t see the scoreboard. Like Yankee Stadium shows the previous at bats for each player when they are up.
Off topic but I love ballparks that show Left On Base stat. I wish they showed that stat on the box score and will tell you how many LOB for each player.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
I did something similar. My timing was moving my pci up and down so I played with some cameras. I had been hitting with The Show 15 view forever without issues, but when I changed to The Show 16, there is just enough offset that for some reason makes all of the difference as I am now timing much better. Can’t explain it, but I just go with it!Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Increased my injury slider to 8 and the first game, I lose Sano for 1-2 months with a knee injury. At 7 I had had 6 Twins go out on DL for 1-2 months and one for 6+.
Gonna keep it there for a week or so to see if that was an outlier.Comment

One thing I’ve learned with classic pitching is you need to aim waaaay out of the zone when you’re ahead 0-2. Unless you have a power pitcher and can blow a fastball by the hitter, anything remotely close will get hit.

how do you aim with classic pitching? I tried holding the button down or just pressing the button but i read in previous post that just determines the break and pitch power. Do you need to hold what direction with the left joystick?Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Classic being what it is, the pitch is not going to go exactly where you aim most of the time. That's why we talk about aiming further off the plate than normal when we don't want to throw a strike - because those pitches that come back over the plate will land on corners rather than right in the middle of the strike zone.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Does everyone use the “warm-up pitcher” option for their relievers? I’ve tried both and don’t really see a difference in my bullpen’s performance. Currently I have it turned off and put my relievers as “ready and waiting” when they are completely ready (full circle)
I’m asking because in my latest game Severino pitches a gem and was up 6-0 after 7. I put in Warren in the 8th (with option off) and he gives up a homer to the first batter. He then walks the next batter but retired the next 3 hitters. In the bottom of the 9th I bring in Kahnle. First batter hits a double. He gets the next 2 batters out before the next hitter hits a single to make it 6-2. The next batter goes out and I win 6-2.
This is certainly not impossible but am wondering if I’m missing something by not warming up my pitchers. I just found my bullpen performed even worse when I tried warming them up. ThanksYankees modern day

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
I don’t think from a game standpoint it matters. I feel it’s basically for us to see how our reliever’s pitches are working for him that day. I use the Yankees also and if I bring Betances in and his slurve is all over the place in warmups there’s a good chance I’m going to use that pitch as little as possible.

Spoiler
I assume with Armor's clean screen setup this isn't particularly obvious, but you gain confidence in a particular pitch if you throw strikes with it in the warmup. You also lose confidence in it if you miss the zone. So, you can try to build up a couple of pitches to good confidence levels, which will give you more control of them once the game actually resumes - as long as you continue to throw strikes with them.
The CPU does not get this advantage when it brings in a pitcher, which is why I don't use the warmup option. Sometimes I think about doing it on Legend though - I need all the help I can get at times.

The warmups (I mean the 8 pitch thing) actually do matter for gameplay. If you'd rather remain unaware of the details I'll spoiler tag this - my aim is not to mess up anyone's experience here.

That’s what I’m saying, if a pitch isn’t working in the 8 pitch warmup I’m probably not going to use it much in the game. But if you have the confidence meter on you can see which pitches are working and which ones aren’t even if you don’t warm up your pitchers. On the other end of that spectrum I can throw 5 warmup fastballs for strikes with Chapman but then when I get into the game I can throw 3 straight fastballs out of the zone no matter where I aim. But I don’t mind that. It’s much easier throwing a fastball over the plate to just a catcher than it is with a batter standing there, and that’s how it should be.
