Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Alright. So now I am excited to test GB,FB and LD!
So from what I have gathered online, is it pretty safe to say that target ranges will be:
GB: 43.5-45%
FB: 34.5-37.5%
LD: 18.5-21%
I’ll start with a base of I am using now for 10 or so games, then decide from there. It makes me wonder about the solid hits a bit, but we’ll see how it goes.
Here is what i use to measure mine, if it helps. I get it from Fangraphs.
MLB 2018 Range from the lowest team to the highest team:
Line Drive% --------19.1 to 25.3
Ground Ball% ---- 38.6 to 48.6
Fly Ball% ------------29.9 to 39.9
Infield Fly Ball%--- 8.7 to 12.7 (included in FB%)
League Average:
Line Drive%----- 21.3
Ground Ball% - 43.4
Fly Ball% ---------35.3
IFFB%--------------10.3 (included in FB%)
Looking forward to seeing your results. I have mine and i will post soon.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Comeback bid in the 9th fell just short in first game against the dirty Cubs. Great game though!
I have added the FB,LD,GB data to the spreadsheet. Numbers look terrible! just kidding, they actually look pretty good. Plus it was fun playing with the spreadsheet.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Tough game. Geez. The first two plays of the game were a Strikeout in the dirt, but Chirinos threw it into RF. Next batter hits a perfect double play ball to the First Baseman, and he threw it into left field lol. So as a result, they scored 2 runs early, i answered right back with 2, then i took the lead in the 3rd. Then, after 4 scoreless frames, they took the lead by one run in the 8th. But Choo tied it right back up with a 2 out HR in the bottom of the 8th.
In the 9th we led off the inning with back to back walks, so i had the winning run in scoring position. A fly ball out and a hard line-out (nearly a double play) made it two outs with the winning run at 2nd. With 2 outs, Odor slapped a single into RF and im sending the winning run home, even though i knew it would be close. A perfect throw gets him at the plate. Going to extras...
My bullpen retired 6 in a row in the 9th and 10th. Speedster Deshields gets on base with one out. After 2 outs he finally swipes second. Then Beltre gets behind in the count 0-2 and works it back to 2-2, then gets a pitch he can handle and hits a beautiful line drive to centerfield for the walkoff RBI.
We have won 5 of our last 8 and are 6-4 in out last 10. This rest day couldn't have come soon enough.

What scoring program is that Nolan? Looks pretty cool.

If you want to know the name of the program, all you have to do is sign up to receive my Free E-book, and if you want to proceed, send $29.99 to my PayPal account...JK. lol. Its an app called iScore. Its free and its top-notch.

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Another well-played game with the Cubs but I came up short again at Wrigley 4-2.
The highlight of this was a Kaplar-sized mistake when I subbed out Cerveli in the eight for Polanco to pinch hit opposite-handed. BUT I had forgotten earlier that I already used Lavarnway as a pinch hitter and had no backup catcher.
Well, Polanco tried his best in the bottom half, but wild pitches everywhere resulted in one extra unearned run.
I could not score in the 9th anyways, but I earn the burnt biscuit award for that one.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
I might have plunked Kris Bryant again by accident...maybe
The dirty Cubs got dirty again with questionable homers in the 8th and 9th, but Pirates get out of town with a 6-5 win. Not the series I was hoping for but these were three well-battled contests so it shows my team is getting better.
Highlight of the game was a Cervelli 3-run shot into the Wrigley basket. That was pretty cool.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
I've been as high as 55% FB rate so just throwing it out there...
And, being a Directional hitter..."hitting down" on the ball can help keep LD rate coming as well and lower trajectory on flies while also getting grounders (and some hitters shouldn't be hitting tons of flies anyway...and they always hit too many in this game).
And, sometimes a hard hit grounder is better than a decently hit fly ball.
Yesss a fellow directional hitter! Lol. I’ve used these sliders as is. Debated contact up to 7 or stay at 6 just because we have no control if they swing or miss whether I have good timing or not. Curious on your thoughts KB

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
On legend, I'm partial to 7, I think that gives you a decent whiff rate that's closer to MLB, especially in the zone and if you use contact swing sometimes with 2-strikes or against a high K/9 pitcher.
Also, influence opposite field and try to swing later (think of it as the hitter trying to "stay back" on the ball).
That said, 6 with high-ish foul frequency could be solid as well for Directional on Legend. You get more "gray area" and hitters can be better able to fight off a few more tough pitches in reasonable locations/timings.
I think out of the zone, the game is just designed to give less contact so O-Swing contact rates probably will just be lower on Legend especially. You can get them decent but I think it creates too many side effects.Last edited by KBLover; 07-27-2018, 12:25 AM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
If you are using zone, you'll need to try to get your pci under the ball a bit. I personally do this by moving my pci a little bit lower than normal, before the pitch, and have in mind what pitch location i want. I try to lay off low stuff especially until 2 strikes.
Try to lay off pitches low in the zone. They try to get you to hit a grounder by throwing lower pitches. If they are sinker ballers, or 2-seam pitchers, make them get the ball up even more. I'm trying to hit a line drive, or get some elevation on it. Basically treat it just like you would if you were really in the batter's box.
I don't hit into many double plays, I hit right at MLB average for GIDP doing this, so it's fixable.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Are you using Directional? From what I hear, Directional is very prone to double play grounders. KB may know how to combat that a bit hopefully, when he gets on, if there is even a way to combat it. Can you influence up? Or would that create another problem?
