Yeah, Head Coach is amazing. I wish Madden would just lump that into the next gen title.

For current games, it's not even close: NBA 2K has the best franchise mode. The complaining you hear about their gameplay stems mostly from online play, and that's not really a sim crowd, so I tune that all out.

NHL probably has the next best franchise mode, but their gameplay, presentation, etc. is a significant downgrade from NBA 2K.

MLB The Show has better gameplay than probably all but NBA 2K, but the issues just bother me, and the fact that the franchise mode is a step above "sucks," doesn't really help much either.

Madden probably is the worst of the bunch, collectively. It's a tough game to get to play realistically, the franchise mode is bare bones, but the draft is at least decent. Then again, you don't see AI teams making trades during the draft, etc. so it's almost necessary to play in an online CFM for Madden.

In all, sports gaming franchise modes are in a Dark Ages, no doubt, but unfortunately one that might never end.

If you're comfortable playing some older titles, the ones I'd recommend for console are:

NFL Head Coach 09
College Hoops 2K8
NCAA Football 14
Fight Night Champion
NFL 2K5, although I'm not as in love with that game as most--their offseason is pretty lame. The presentation is awesome though with the halftime shows and weekly wrap-ups. The gameplay is actually really good still too.

All of those older titles, I eventually want to start streaming...just time is the challenge.

I think it was setting the bar back in 2005; it only seems ahead of its time because of how bad the current sport games' franchise modes have become. All of these games, including if NFL 2K5 had stuck around, should be light years ahead of where they are at today with their franchise-mode experiences.

Tigers are 16-19 and on-schedule with the MLB schedule. Trying my best to come up with v1.6 to hopefully, among other things, fix some of the game's legacy flaws like AI K rate while batting.

Seems bullpen guys have an easier time striking guys out, so I'm leaning towards raising user SP Stamina.

Seems bullpen guys have an easier time striking guys out, so I'm leaning towards raising user SP Stamina.

I’m dead last in Ks in my franchise. Using your sliders v.5 and I’m the Os. It’s May 16th and I trail by about 20-30ks from the next team above me. I’ve also decided to play the minor league schedule as well, picked that up around 10-14 games into their seasons. Last with the Tides in Ks but I’m 10th with Bowie.

Have you noticed errors being light. I’m last in Ks but first in fielding percentage. I’ve bumped up IF fielding errors and IF and OF throwing errors 1 each, only has been a few games but so far only thing I’ve noticed is the catcher having a couple more throwing errors on dropped third strikes

I prioritize defense with an otherwise pretty bad Tigers team, and we're 9th or 10th in fielding % through May 4th.

A lot of patches lately, but I think these subtle improvements will be nice to see.

As always, tweak to your liking as different skill levels, different teams, make a big difference.

Not to answer for mike, but for me it’s just too easy to read pitches and determine balls and strikes.

Just played game with 1.6 and it was great. If I had to be picky maybe notch down CPU Power one tick but aside from that got bit of everything. I know small sample size..Everyone is better off just using these as base and adjust if necessary. Thanks Mike.

Part of successful pitching is being willing to walk guys and pitch around some. If you're around the plate too much, there's going to be risk.

Loving 1.6 with my Tigers franchise. Been using classic pitching and it seems to really help with producing more walks compared to before when I’d have at most 1 per game.
