    Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

Just finished year 1 with the Mariners, lost in the World Series to the Dodgers, injury issues made the whole post-season a real slog to get through with a lot of tight games.

Biggest win of the regular season was a 33-1 victory over the Texas Rangers but the sweetest victory was the last day of the regular season against Oakland for the #1 spot in the AL West.

Question, do I ditch Cano? His numbers aren't great and his contract is huge, I've shopped him around but never get a decent offer.

Unless you have someone better and cheaper, I'd keep him for now. His contract is obviously the reason most teams don't want him. I'd be patient and see how things unfold.

Got through April with the Cubbies at an impressive 16-6. After a 1-3 start, I went 15-3 for the rest of the month scoring 20+ runs twice!! Yes, that's what happens when you manage your own games with a Billy Beane mentality lol.

I kept Kris Bryant and Baez in the minors until the end of April. Bryant in his first game had a sac fly and walked 4 times. He replaced Olt which kinda sucks because he was actually having a good season with 5 homers. He struck out a little more than I would have liked.

Lester started off shaky but starting to round into form at 3-1. Jason Hammel and Travis Wood have been my best starters while Arrieta **** the bed until his most recent outing. Bullpen has been pretty good with Motte and Strop being absolutely lethal in the late innings.

Best player though by a country mile was Rizzo. Clutch hits, homers, and carried my offense through this month. He's awesome! Hoping that with Bryant, Baez, and Castro, my lineup will produce a little more consistently. Coghlan has been a pleasant surprise with getting clutch hits and getting on base.

I traded Sweeney for a minor league pitcher so I could get Bryant into the roster. Have a big series against the Cards coming up for the battle of Central Division Supremacy

This has to be the weirdest game I've managed in OOTP History. Wainwright got hurt right away which I get and because of my moneyball tactics, tired out the bullpen. Jon Jay ended up pitching and I basically walked my way to a comeback.

20 walks? That's insane. You must lead the league in OBP by a mile.

I sure do I play a certain style and it helps to win games. I lose a little in terms of power numbers, but I give myself a chance to win by getting runners on base.

                Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

Hey I downloaded the OOTP 15 demo over the weekend (yes I know 16 is out, but I never saw a demo for it), and in the OOTP 15 demo I keep thinking I am going to run into some disabled screen as most demos do. But I don't run into them. It appears to be the full version of the game with the exception that there are no team logos and all the team nicknames are fake ones. Of course I also found a screen where I could type in the proper team names. Sorry if I missed this when I installed it, but is this a time based demo? If I was to start a game is it all of a sudden going to disable itself on me after 'X' number of times playing it?

I can't really see myself playing the game with the current 2015 suite of players, but one area that really intrigues me is the historical rosters available to people who play this game. I grew up in Montreal and suffered through many bad years of Expos baseball. But there were two years 1981 and 1994 that the team really was one of the better teams if not the best team. However both times baseball strikes destroyed the momentum those Expos teams had. But with this game I could go back and replay those years, which as I said intrigues me. The 1994 season might be a tad easy as that Expos team really was good. But the 1981 season would rather interesting. They were definitely a contender, but there were lots of other good teams as well, so playing the 1981 season would not be a gimmie.

It's a time-limited demo where you have X number of days of free play before it wants a serial #. I work for the company but admit I forget how many days you get. It's actual days from when you first install it, though, so even if you don't play for a week, the clock keeps ticking until the demo locks.

Otherwise, yes, you can play the full version of the game until the demo runs out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

                    Thxs for the reply.

I ended up ordering the game through Steam last night anyway as I figured something had to have been up with the demo and I did not want to be X number of games into a Season and have it disable itself on me and if I had to pay for the game I'd rather be using this years version of it.

I started my 1981 Historical Season using the Expos and was involved in an epic Opening Day 16 inning game against the Pirates. I ended up losing the game 7-6 (I should have won it as I took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th, but my closer Woodie Fryman choked). But I was surprised how engaged I was with it considering it is a text based simulator.

Oh a question if I may. I was busy playing an MLB 15 The Show game, but I also had a CPU vs CPU game going on in OOTP 16. When the OOTP game ended, I exited it thinking that only that game would have been played. But the entire days worth of games on the MLB scheduled were also played once I got back to the scores screen. Did I do something wrong here? Is there someway to play these CPU vs CPU games and when exiting the game not have all the other games played for that day?

Other than that the game looks pretty cool. I just don't know enough about the GM's role in baseball to think I could undertake that huge role in my first year with the game. Looks too time consuming for now. But the cool thing about the Historical Season mode when you check the "Use real world transaction" feature appears to be that the entire year will only play out in terms of player movement like it actually did in the real world back in whatever year you chose. Perhaps in a future year I could try my luck as the GM, but for this year I am just going to have fun replaying that historical 1981 season, without the work stoppage. Haha ...

Before playing out a game, there's an option in the lower left corner that says "Simulate the world in the background." Turn that off and the other day's games won't be played.

Won the 2017 series with the Reds. MVP was Addison Russell (who is on my team now) and my elite second base prospect is ready to take over. I'm returning virtually everyone but my incumbent second baseman and a couple of relievers that were mediocre.
I was originally GM only but switched to manager/GM after getting pissed off at virtual Bryan Price.

Qucik question please, I played OOTP 16 for a little bit so far but dont have much time. I like the social and human aspect of FM series and was wondering if there is anything more to the moral of players in OOTP? For example reactions to won/lost games, other players, relationships (like being a bit upset when a favorite player leaves), talking to players about their happiness etc.

                              Thanks!

Yes to most of those (more on that in a sec). Our manual has more info on that, although it's a little outdated right now. (We're working on updating it.)

In OOTP 16, "Team Performance" is replaced by "Team Record" (same thing, though), and Team Chemistry is added, so the mix of player personalities on the team can have an impact too.

                                RE your questions:

Relationships: Not so much that they have favorite players, but if you trade away some very popular players, that can have a negative impact on their Transactions morale.

Talking to players: No, you can't do that, although you will get messages when players are unhappy. For example, they may demand that you put them in the starting lineup, if they're on the bench, or they may insist you trade them, if they think the team is going nowhere. (Like Papelbon on the Phillies over the past year or so.) But you can't reply to the message -- You can just take action to try to make them happier.
