    Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

Is there a way to get a player to take advantage of shifts or direct them to focus on shooting a ball opposite way or to pull the ball depending on the at-bat?

Also, is there a way to be able to select which pitch a pitcher throws at a particular time?

I'm just pressing play, continue, next day, finish day, etc. If something important comes up, it'll prompt me to take care of it right?

You can turn it to pitch by pitch mode instead 1 button per at-bat, but I don't think that you can influence exactly what pitch or how the batter tries to hit it.

But yes, if something important comes up then you will get a notification of some kind and then you can just check your mail. You can set what kind of things you want the game to notify you for: injuries, trade proposals, personal messages from your players, etc. It's not full proof though. You don't get a notification about expiring personnel contracts until late in the year, and it's possible that a player may not message you about wanting to re-sign.

They will sure message you whining about playing time, though.

Is it possible to edit the created photos for players?

Fired up a 1998 season and a few (big name) players were wrong skin color. Mariano Rivera comes to mind, was white.

Well—like recent Sammy Sosa white. Lol.

Can you start a season with any year and all their accurate rosters, minor leagues, just start up with it? Or do you have to download mods and stuff for that?

You can start any year with accurate major league rosters and, if you choose, accurate lineups and transactions, the minor league options will be disabled.

You can add historical minor leagues but they won't have 100% roster accuracy.

If you're talking about the facegen players, yes. The default players the game generates can be off. There is a good mod I've used where facegens were created of historical players so most you can easily tell who they are and of course skin color is correct.

                    I’ve just discovered mods lol.

Playing the 95 season trying to win the WS as the Braves.

Bringing in all the old stadiums is so so good!

I've gotten back into this game recently, and it's so much fun.

I started a 1996 Braves franchise to correct the final years of the decade lol, and it's been a blast kind of re-writing history.

I still wish that trade logic was better though. I do think that it has improved in ootp21 as I don't get as many completely bogus offers from the AI, but there are still a lot. I know that trade logic is always going to be hard to simulate with the AI, but I wish that at least half of the offers that I receive from the AI would at least give me pause before instantly rejecting. Like, ok you've obviously low balled me in the initial offer, but make me at least consider "discuss trade". Instead I'll get an offer like a 50/50 30 year old on the last year of his contract for 25 year old Chipper Jones who already has a higher overall rating and hasn't even hit his potential yet. I can't tell you how many time's I've gotten an offer to give up a solid starter + a good prospect for like a AAAA 30/30 guy.

Then it also gets frustrating on the other side when I'm trying to work out a deal. I'm in the year 2003, and I have a surplus of pitching. I have 24 year old John Lackey on my team (60/65) with 3 years left of team control. I offered him for 19 year old Nick Markakis (35/60) who was just drafted last season. The AI should have jumped at the opportunity to receive a really good young, MLB ready SP with years of team control in exchange for a prospect who was still a couple of years away from being MLB ready. Not only did they not accept that offer, they wanted me to throw in the top prospect in my organization (who was also a better prospect that Markakis)

All you have to do is pick a year and they have all the stats, ratings rosters, minors, stadiums, etc??

Yep, you can start from any year as far back as you want. In my 1996 franchise, I started with Grisson, Justice, McGriff, etc. on the major league roster, and I had Andruw Jones, Kerry Lightenberg, and a number of others in the minors. Guys like Todd Helton, and Albert Pujols have shown up in the draft in their appropriate years.

It will also kind of mirror real life. Like when John Smoltz began a reliever in 2002, in the offseason leading up to that season his stamina rating drops to reflect that of a reliever.

Ya it's a lot of fun rewriting history. I did a beginning of time play through on ootp19. It was cool having and playing against babe ruth, mickey mantle, hank aaron, etc.

The only bad thing about the historical play through is that you do lose some features from the standard game. In Ootp21 standard game you can view future draft classes, but for some reason that option isn't there in a historical mode. So you are limited to just viewing the upcoming draft class, and only on the reveal date. Also, unless I just don't have the right setting selected, I've never been able to get my scout to find an international player in historical mode at random. All prospects are found via the draft.

The novelty of getting to rewrite history and records is more than enough to offset the lack of those features, but it would have been nice to have them still.
