      Re: OOTP 19 Franchise Progress

I started out 4-0 with as manager of the Dayton Dragons, but then lost 3 in a row, one of which was my fault, as I accidentally hit intentional walk with a guy on base, after I had the hitter down in the count 1-2, which led to 2 men, on and the next guy up hit a 3run Homer, and I lost the game. Then after that, I won a 19 inning game, but taxed my BP.
Im not 8-6, sitting in 3rd place behind the tincaps, who I play next and South Bend, who I won 2 of 3 against.

Injuries have hurt too, as I lost my best SP Scott Moss in his 2nd start, for 4-5 weeks, with a muscle strain. Then I lost another SP Todd Boyles in his 3rd start.
Offensively we dont hit for much power, but my team leads the league in walks, and stolen bases. Im more of a old school manager, when it comes to playing small ball, and being aggressive on the bases, and without much power, I dont have much of a choice, if I want to give myself a chance to win. SP has been so so, but the BP has been solid for me, especially considering how taxed it got, during that 19 inning affair, where I didnt get much length out of my SP, as for a couple games, I had to basically ride the 2 starters, and let them get knocked around a little bit, rather than pulling them, when I normall would have when things got dicey for them.
Overall, Im pretty happy with the 8-6 start to the season, all told, especially considering all the Reds young talent, is at high A and above, I just dont have much talent to work with, especially offensively. To make matters worse, I lost one of my better hitters, and my only 3rd true 3rd basemen, in Brantley Bell. Losing him will hurt my IF defense. Right now Im ranked 3rd in D efficency, and teams havent faired well, when testing my OF'ers arms strength.

I just cant get enough of OOTP19, this yr. I enjoy playing NBA2k18, and I havent played it since OOTP came out. My PS4, may be nothing more than a dust collector, now. Heck I havent even played Farm simulator on my PC since OOTP19 came out, and typically thats the game I play the most, nowdays, since Im retired/disabled due to health, and Im not able to get out on the farm and work, so I play that darn game about 90% of the time Im awake, lol. Now OOTP19 has replaced everything.
There are a few things, I hope they get fixed, some of the fielding animations, dont line up to well, and they need a tweak, but as a whole, this game is pretty impressive, after just the 1st patch. Typically with MLBTS, it took a minimum of atleast a couple patches, before, you could justify starting your Franchise, along with having to wait for the OSFM rosters. Now OOTP needs to update the opening day rosters, and lineups, they dont have them fully correct, but it sure is nice having all the real MILB teams and rosters. I probably enjoy MILB, more so than the big leagues, when it comes to video baseball, Its also a challenge, to when you play as manager, because you have no say in your roster

Maybe a few waiver claims (like taking Wilmer Font from LA on May 12th) are the only likely transactions ahead. Oh, and that small matter of the amateur draft coming up in 4 days. The Knights have the 2nd overall pick.
It's really too bad the game doesn't keep track of manager ejections. I'm sure Bobby is fighting hard for his young team.

Ya Gotta Believe (…maybe?) Mets Surprise With Great Start

Raise your hand if you thought the 2018 Mets would have the best record in baseball after just over a month of play. Nobody expected this, but here we are. The Mets are 21-7, two wins better than the next closest teams (The Red Sox and the Cubs.) Maybe it’s the medicrority of the division (the 14-14 Phillies are in second, the 9-19 Marlins are in last place.) Maybe it’s a fluke. But let’s just savor this for a second.

The Mets are 10th in the NL in RS. Ouch. They’re 6th in BA but only 10th in OBP. They’re tied for 8th in HR but just 14th in SB. So how are they winning games? The pitching, of course. The Mets are drawing comparisons to the team that went to the WS a few years ago on the back of excellent pitching. The once-elite rotation has regained that status (for now,) as the starters have the best ERA in the NL. (2.33.) The bullpen has been great, too, as they rank 2nd in the NL. The Mets have the 6th ranked defense in the NL, which could be better but it’s not bad, either. The BP’s success is a little surprising because Hansel Robles went down with an oblique strain on 4/13. He’s still out another 3 weeks, plus rehab time. Marcus Molina, who had been starting in the wake of Jason Vargas’ injury IRL, got bumped to the bullpen and he’s been exceeding expectations (2.10 ERA in 25.2 innings.) Jacob Rhame has surprised us, too, as he’s pitching to the tune of a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings. AJ Ramos and Jerry Blevins have struggled a bit (.375 and 3.65 ERAs, respectively.) But setup man Anthony Swarzak has been amazing: 0/63 ERA in 14.1 innings and 14.1 K/9. Jeurys Familia has been great as our closer, putting up 11 saves with a 2.02 ERA in 13.1 innings.

          Let’s look at the rotation:
          Thor: 6GS, 3-1, 2.41 ERA in 37.1 innings
          DeGrom: 6GS, 4-1, 1.36 ERA in 39.2 innings
          Matz: 5GS, 0-1, 5.06 ERA in 26.2 innings
          Harvey: 5GS, 301 1.36 ERA in 33 innings
          Seth Lugo: 2GS, 1-0, 2.25 ERA in 12innings

Harvey and DeGrom have bounced back in a big way while Matz is struggling in the early going.

Looking at the offense, starting C d’Arnaud is hitting .232 in 16G and only on pace for a 0.4 WAR season. “Backup” Plawecki is hitting .327 in 21G and is on pace for 3.7 WAR. He’ll likely take the starting job soon. Wilmer Flores is struggling big time off the bench with a .135 average. Adrian Gonzalez has really surprised me, with a .299 average. He’s on pace for 2.4 WAR as our starting 1B. 2B Cabrera is hitting .286 (on pace for .2.9 WAR,) 3B Frazier is hitting .245 with 6 HR (on pace for 4.8 WAR,) Jose Reyes is hitting .263 off the bench, and youngster Ahmed Rosario is our starting SS and he’s hitting .259, which puts him on pace for a 2.6 WAR season.

Outfield Playing Time Could Lead to Trouble

Right now, the OF lineup reads as:
LF: Conforto (16G, 14GS, ,.235 average, on pace for 1.8 WAR.)
CF: Nimmo: (21G, 20 GS, .184 average, on pace for -0.7 WAR.)
RF: Bruce: (28G, 28GS, .283 average, on pace for 3.8 WAR.)
Bench: Cespedes (23G, 14GS, .299 average, on pace for 1.8 WAR.) and Lagares (21G, 8GS, .258 average, on pace for 2.7 WAR.)

Cespedes is still happy, likely due to the team success. But you know he expects to be a regular starter. If he continues to be a bench/rotational player, I expect he’ll grow unhappy pretty quickly. He has a big contract that is fully guaranteed until the end of the 2020 season, so we need to make this marriage work. If Nimmo continues to struggle, he’ll probably be sent down, which will allow Callaway to realign the outfield. Until then, it’ll be one of the team’s more notable storylines.

          Down on the Farm:

The 51s are 19-6, putting them in first place by 5G. Jason Vargas is rehabbing his injury. He should be back in a few days. Zach Wheeler has been incredible; he has a 1.10 ERA in 16.1 innings (2GS, back to back shutouts.) Waiver claim Marco Gonzales has a 1.93 ERA in 2GS. Reliever RJ Alvarez has a 1.29 ERA in 7 innings and most of the BP down there has been great, too. 3B Phillip Evans has been great (.337 average in 21G.) The same holds true for Gavin Cecchini (.33 average in 23 games.) Dominic Smith is hitting .283 in 24 games. Ty Kelly is hitting a whopping .400.

            2023 Season Preview

So the 2023 Orioles are a fairly young team with a large portion of the 25 man roster not yet 26 years old including much ballyhooed rookie SS Bobby Witt Jr.

            Pitching
While the Orioles didn't really address their need for starting pitching (again) in the winter. Their GM did make a move late in Spring Training. With cash to spend purusing the FA list he saw that a former gold glove and cy young (eqivilant) SP was still sitting out there needing a job. That pitcher Se-Woong Park, who in 2021 won the KBO Outstanding Pitcher Award and Glove Wizard Award. Park has a plus slider and features an above average fastball, curve and slightly above average forkball only got one spring start so he will start the year in AAA Norfolk. Other than Park the rotation features many of the same arms in different locations. Dylan Bundy is the defacto ace. After Bundy will come 28 year old lefty Gregory Soto who was acquired in a trade with Detroit for RF Kole Calhoun. Soto has both an excellent fastball and curve, but lacks control and his change leave a lot to be desired. Next up 24 year old Jeremy Good a product of the O's organization returns after a 4-9 5.62 in 24 starts last year. Good has great control, but also lacks a fully developed 3rd pitch. 25 year old Nick Storz has the potential to be the best pitcher in the rotation. He was 7-2 3.08 in AA Bowie last year and his wipe-out slider is primed for the big leagues, teamed with a 93-95 mph fastball and a still developing change. Stroz came to Baltimore in the Manny Machado trade. Rounding out the rotation is Roniel Raudas the inconsistent starter could be on his last legs in the rotation he is eligible for arbitration and out of option years so its sink or swim for him this year.

The Bullpen again is a strength of the club and they added a new name, AA standout Do-kyu Kim a rightly who sported a 2.71 era in 69.2 innings at Bowie. The club figures the Bull Pen will be able to hold the leads they are given should the youngsters on offense produce and the rotation find a way to get 15-18 outs consistently.

            Offense
There was a lot of turnover from 2022 to 2023 starting right at the top. Gone is Billy Hamilton and in his place 2B Trea Turner who offers a little more pop at the top of the lineup and the potential for 40 stolen bases a year. LF Griffin Conine brings above average power, speed and ability to move Turner over if he gets on in late game situations. 3B Ryan Mountcastle is firmly enplaced in the #3 hole he lead all of baseball with 204 hits and 371 total bases in 2022. He is hitting his peak and drove 41 balls out of the yard last year. Joc Pederson and Gary Sanchez are behind him. New 1B Jack Yalowitz who was acquired in a trade with Tampa for back-up catcher Marcus Green brings plus power and an above average eye. Bryce Jordan will DH and can play 4 positions although none of them stand out as his best. He is the 2nd catcher backing up Sanchez. He could flirt with hitting .300 on the year. Batting 8th SS Bobby Witt Jr the club hopes to protect him early in the season while he gets acclimated to MLB pitching ideally they would like to see Witt batting 2nd or 6th when he's ready. Rounding out the lineup is CF Jonathan Capellan a speedy defender who can put the ball in play but without much power more importantly he avoids costly strikeouts. He is a lead off candidate and a bonifide threat on the base paths.

            Defense
Up the middle the Orioles defense could be very good with Witt and Turner turning 2 and Capellan able to cover as much ground as Hamilton in CF, he has an above average arm as well. The corner infield could be a bit of a problem as Mountcastle has a negative ZR and has committed 32 errors in 832 chances. 1B Jack Yalowitz is similarly challenged defensibly, but could be an upgrade over Trey Mancini at 1st. RF Griffin Conine has the potential to be an average to above average RF his arm is good not great. Joc Pederson is nothing special in LF but doesn't make many mistakes out there. He might not throw a lot of runners out 6 total assists in 2021 and 2022 pitcher know he won't boot too many balls.

            Overview
The O's are going young and it shows all over the roster, with limited experience at the MLB level the team hopes for a fast start. While no one is picking them for the playoffs let alone the division if they can find some answers in the rotation the bull pen is still good enough to keep a lead. The young offense needs to get going and build the confidence of the young hitters. Health is the other issue as there isn't much help at AAA ready to contribute AA hold some promise but there is the urge not to push too many too fast.

O's are predicted to finish the year 75-87 good for 4th in the AL East.

              Mets Slow Down in May

After a month, the Mets stood at a MLB-best 21-7. After May, they were 37-19 after a 16-12 record in the month. We’re still happy with a winning record, but it was disappointing to see the team drop off a bit. We still led the division, then by 10.5 games over the Phillies. The Yankees took over the honor of having the MLB’s best record (39-18.). We were tied with the Cubs and Dodgers for the best record in the NL.

After May, we stood at 6th in RS, 8th in BA, 10th in OBP and tied for 5th in HR. The pitching was still great (1st in RS, 1st in starters and BP.) The defense improved to a rank of 4th in the NL.

Nimmo kept struggling so we sent him down. Lagares took over at CF and Cespedes started growing happy with his role on the team. He hasn’t said anything yet but it’s probably just a matter of time.

              Stats:

              Rotation:

Syndergaard 12GS, 6-2, 2.52 ERA in 75 innings (left last start with injury, awaiting diagnosis)
              Degrom: 11 GS, 7-3, 1.79 ERA in 75.1 innings
              Matz: 11GS, 3-3, 4.24 ERA in 63.2 innings
              Harvey: 11GS, 6-3, 2.70 ERA in 70 innings
              Vargas: 5GS, 2-2, 3.45 ERA in 31.1 innings

              BP:

Cubs have a great +117 run differential while the Dodgers have one of +116. These are the two best RD. in baseball right now.

Draft: After a bad 2017, we had the sixth overall pick and we hoped to capitalize on that draft position. I learned that our scout has a bad reputation, especially for scouting amateurs, so I tried to follow the OOTP scout’s reports instead.

              Top 5 picks

1.6: 1B Lawrence Butler, 17 YO out of HS. Can also play LF/RF. Incredible left handed power potential. Long, lean and athletic kid out of Atlanta. Plus defensive skills, good base stealing instincts. Projects as an elite 1B.
2.6 C Charlie Loust (18YO, HS) Good contact, power and eye. “Acrobatic fielding abilities.” Projects as above average contact hitter, raw strength and quick wrists should translate to above average power. Projected to be elite starting C
3.6 SS Danny Casals (20YO, college) Good contact, power and defense. Above average power potential of possibly 40 HR a season. Capable, reliable D. Plus runner, good stealing, could be above average SS and he also plays 3B
4.6 RF Jaden Fein (17YO, HS) Good contact and power GREAT eye. Projected to excel at drawing walks. Plus power potential, probably will be .250 hitter. Probably won’t be a star but should be solid contributor
5.6 RP John Mason (22 YO, college) Flyball RHP out of Mississippi State. “Elite” stuff, great fastball and slider, both plus-plus pitches. Will likely be a setup guy in BP

Our rotation had held up so far in terms of injuries. That changed on June 13th. DeGrom went down for 4-5 weeks, plus rehab time, with elbow tendinitis. I would have called up Zack Wheeler from AAA because he had been playing really well. But he tore his labrum and he still had four months left of his recovery. So, I called Seth Lugo back up to take deGrom’s place.

Then, on 6/26, Lagares went down with a concussion. It must have been really bad because he’ll be out for the rest of the year. We called Nimmo back up, which didn’t solve our OF playing time problem, as Callaway still doesn’t want to start Cespedes, who is now very unhappy with his role on the team.

I think you're gonna end up with an all-Asian pitching staff sooner or later. You like you them imported pitchers. First, it was Yin-Tou Lai.

If that pitching rotation performs well, then you can go places. Definitely looks to be a typical Orioles team with offense before pitching. What are Yalowitz's ratings like?

I just did my amateur draft (will post about it later) and Griffin Conine went pretty early in the 1st round (7th overall to the Reds). I assume he's Jeff Conine's kid?

2.6 C Charlie Loust (18YO, HS) Good contact, power and eye. “Acrobatic fielding abilities.” Projects as above average contact hitter, raw strength and quick wrists should translate to above average power. Projected to be elite starting C

                    Marlins are Playoff Bound
Team Wins 6 Straight to End Season

"We did it! We're going to the playoffs!" Royce Lewis yelled as he ran around the clubhouse in sheer joy.

The sentiment was shared by all. After being tantalizingly close last season and enduring a dogfight that lasted until the start of October, the Marlins punched their ticket to the 2020 Postseason.

"What impresses me is that we don't have a ton of star power. We have Ohtani and Lewis and Siri are probably a stars in the making, but other than that, it's a total team effort. We need everyone to do their jobs and everyone did. That's why we're having this conversation, " manager Don Mattingly commented.

This total team effort shows up nowhere more than the bullpen. The entire bullpen had ERA+ stats, a metric that compares a pitcher's ERA to league average, over 100, meaning they were better than average. The closest to that line was Ryan Feierabend at a 103, and he distinguished himself by taking the ball for 110 relief innings. He picked up 10 wins in relief with a 10-2 record, 2 saves, and 5 holds.

"Hey, I'm a knuckleballer, that's just what we do. Take ball, take the hits, our arms don't get worn down so much, " Feierabend commented with a smile.

Feierabend's work allowed the rest of the relievers to stay fresher while not taxing the starters too much by forcing them to stay in too long.

Ohtani seemed to wear down some in the latter two months, but still posted a 2.99 ERA and a 14-4 record. Se-woong Park continues to look like a budding ace with a 2.74 ERA despite a 12-11 record.

Offensively, Royce Lewis is getting the hang of hitting home runs, picking up 12 on the season, seeming to "trade" some doubles and triples for home runs. His high contact ability and eye at the plate combined for a .407 on-base rate, and when he's on, he's a demon with 70 steals in a whopping 92 attempts. Not to mention that he basically plays everyday. He appeared in 159 games, starting in 150 of them.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Jose Siri might have taken up the power mantle with 32 HR and a .509 slugging percentage, though Isan Diaz warmed up as the year went on to post respectable 23 HR and .450 slugging percentage.

The surprise performance is by from from Richard Urena. When he was signed in the offseason, making the roster was expected - being the starting 2B all year long was not.

"He kept hitting so we kept playing him. He forced our hand by starting hot and carrying it all year long, " Mattingly spoke.

In all, Urena batting .315 with an .871 OPS and earning 2.9 WAR.

Also helping the offense was a return to the seemingly reckless style, especially on the bases.

"We go early, often, don't care who you are or how strong your arm is. We're going to make you play the game and dare you to execute. Once we got back to that, the offense started picking back up. I think we got away from that early on. Falling under .500 for a day to two in June kind of woke everyone back up, " bench coach Kazuya Tsutsui spoke.

                    Team Top Hitters
SS Royce Lewis, .285/.405/.400, 70 SB, 5.9 WAR
LF Jose Siri, .297/.315/.509, 32 HR, 51 SB, 4.4 WAR
                    3B Isan Diaz, .261/.350/.453, 23 HR, 3.3 WAR

                    Team Top Pitchers
                    SP Se-woong Park, 164 1/3 IP, 143 K, 2.74 ERA, 3.12 FIP, 5.0 WAR
                    SP Shohei Ohtani, 168 2/3 IP, 158 K, 2.99 ERA, 3.40 FIP, 4.5 WAR
                    RP Gabriel Moya, 81 1/3 IP, 107 K, 2.43 ERA, 2.38 FIP, 2.7 WAR

*Ohtani had the highest WPA on the team at 2.1.

                    Marlins and Nationals Square Off...Again

The Marlins and Nationals will do battle in the Wild Card game to see who gets to play the juggernaut Dodgers, who won an amazing 115 games this season, in the NLDS.

These two squads fought each other 19 times and the Marlins won just 10 times making for a basically 50/50 record. The Marlins won 88 games and the Nats won 85. This is about as evenly matched as can be expected.

The Nationals scored more runs, 753 to the Marlins' 729. The Marlins have the better pitching as the Nationals allowed 715 runs and Marlins just 644.

"This is going to be an intense battle and an intense game. It's not often you face a one-and-done situation in baseball, so I hope the guys come fired up and just let it all hang out. Be aggressive, go all-out, take chances, because this is it, " Mattingly commented, "Basically, let's just do us out there. The wild, aggressive, out of control Marlins."

Mike Scosia Signs With Low A-Batavia
The Marlins agreed to terms with former Angels manager Mike Scosia on a four year contract. He'll be assigned to Batavia, whose prior manager retired at the end of the minor league season.

"As always, we want to have the best baseball minds for our prospects to take advantage of. It will be one of the keys to our long term success.

                      Marlins Fall in NLDS
Dodgers Rally to Win Game 5

The upstart Marlins nearly did the unthinkable. They pushed the Dodgers to the edge, forcing game five and then fighting to the end in the decisive game.

The Marlins got a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Royce Lewis hit a solo home run, his first of the series. The Dodgers tied it in the seventh with a solo shot of their own off the bat of Cody Bellinger. Moya finished the seventh to hold the game at 1-1.

The Dodgers were too much for Del Pozo in the eighth. After getting a couple men on base, Corey Seager blasted a double into the gap to score two and give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.

The Marlins would not go down without a fight as Isan Diaz cranked a solo home run off Alex Wood to make it a 3-2 game, but the Marlins could not find the tying run and the Dodgers won the series 3 games to 2.

"It's a sour feeling, " Royce Lewis commented, "We fought so hard and we thought we had a chance. Ultimately, the better team punched and we didn't have any more counter punches so we lost."

Punch and counter punch is an apt analogy for a series that saw four of the five games decided by one run and neither team winning two games in a row until the Dodgers won game five.

Despite his team losing, Royce Lewis was named NLDS MVP. He batted .500 in the series.

                      The other games:

Game 1: Marlins win 3-1. Feierabend picks up the win in relief after Yonder Alvarez, picked up in a trade with the Astros, hit a 3-run home run to give the Marlins the lead.

Game 2: Dodgers win 4-3. Shohei Ohtani gave up four runs in the 5th, punctuated by Alex Verdugo's 2-run home run. The lead would hold up thanks to 5 1/3 scoreless innings from the Dodger bullpen.

Game 3: Marlins win 7-6. Monte Harrison keyed a 5-run rally in the fourth with his three-run home run, part of a 3-for-5 day for the young center fielder. The Dodgers countered with a 3-run inning in the 6th, but Del Pozo, Moya, and Vizcaino combined for 3 2/3 shut out innings to preserve the win.

Game 4: Dodgers win 5-4. This game was wild from the start. Ohtani started things off with a 2-run home run and then on the next pitch, Jose Siri was hit by the pitch, and that started a full on brawl. Siri and Dodgers pitcher Zach Godfrey were ejected from the game. The Marlins had a 4-3 lead but the Dodgers scored two off Sandy Alacantara to take the lead. In all, the Dodgers used 5 relievers to allow just 1 run, and that made the difference in the game.

                      Dodgers Crowned 2020 World Champions

"At least we lost to the champs I guess, " Mattingly commented.

The Dodgers got past their scare against the Marlins to go on to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series 4 games to 2.

The Dodgers defeated the Cubs also by a 4 games to 2 margin. The Cubs swept the Braves to advance to the NLCS.

The Rays came out of the AL Wild Card game, defeating the Indians. They then stunned the Yankees with a 3-1 ALDS victory. The Rays overthrew the Astros in another upset with a 4-2 ALCS victory.

                      Offseason Plans

It is hard to say what the Marlins will do this coming offseason. They would like to improve the squad, especially after becoming a playoff team and nearly pulling off the upset of the postseason. However, they might be still wanting that improvement to come from the young players the team has put together already.

Still, some analysts believe the Marlins need some good veteran leadership that can also help on the field.

"There's no way to sell the team on just pure 'clubhouse guys', considering they have some of those already like Carpio. But a good veteran that can lead in the clubhouse and by his high-quality play, I think that's what this team is missing, " Mark Derosa commented.

There are positions that could be improved for sure, and perhaps being a playoff team will help attract those established talents.

                        Marlins Start Locking the Core
Extensions to Ohtani, Park, and Diaz Excite Fans

Marlins fans are getting treated to a lot of positive news lately.

Not the least of which is a long-term deal for Shohei Ohtani.

"Maybe part of what's been on his mind is his future, so we took care of that and hopefully it will let him just focus on baseball, K.L. commented.

The Marlins signed Ohtani to an 8-year extension worth a total of $116 million. The last two years are team options.

"This might be worth it just for him as a pitcher, " an analyst commented, "I mean, let's say 14-16 wins with around a 3.00 ERA. I think that's not a bad deal for that kind of production."

The Marlins didn't stop there, they extended 3B Isan Diaz not long afterwards.

Diaz was granted a 6-year deal worth $57 million. The final year is a vesting option that triggers if Diaz reaches 500 plate appearances the year prior.

"I'm glad they want me to stick around and eliminate the stress of arbitration. We have something going here, and I want to be a part of it. This was an pretty easy decision for me, " Diaz commented at his press conference.

                        Nope. Not done.

Next up is the other Asian rising star in the rotation, Se-woong Park. In what was unexpectedly easy negotiations, Park agreed to an 8-year deal worth $62.5 million.

"I think we kinda looked at each other and was like 'what's the catch?' I was surprised to say the least, " K.L. commented, "We were expecting some difficult negotiations, but even his arbitration number was lower than we thought. I don't know if we had the wrong currency conversions or what, but he's signed and that's just fine."

The deal is heavily back loaded, by Park's request. The final four years make up $40 million of the contract's total value.

And then there was a trade. Remember Ketel Marte?

"We had just assumed that was dead when we didn't make a move for him at the deadline. Instead, as soon as the season ended, we started getting him brought up constantly by the Diamondbacks, " K.L. spoke, "So we decided to sit down and see just what's up."

The Diamondbacks were interested in Zach Eflin being a part of the deal. That took some consideration as Eflin seems to be coming along. However, Marte did lead the NL in batting average and profiles as just the perfect kind of player for what the Marlins want to do with the offense (which the owner can't stand - but he didn't mind the winning...so if it works...).

The Diamondbacks also wanted Dietrich. After some back and forth, the Marlins did part with Eflin and Dietrich, along with some minor prospects in return for Marte, who's been extended already, and an outfield prospect.

The next trick, and one that might be very, very difficult, will be dealing with Royce Lewis' contract extension. Lewis' agent seems to be sending mixed messages with regards to any possibility of a longer term deal, which is not helping things.

And the better Lewis gets, the harder it will be to sign him or to let him go.
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

July Recap: Thor Makes History, Mets Send Several to ASG

July, overall, was a pretty good month for the Mets. The team went 16-8 to bounce back after a rough June and Steven Matz was crowned the NL’s best pitcher in July: 4-1 in 5 starts and a 0.91 ERA in 29.2 innings. After a rough start, is Matz rounding into form?

deGrom, Harvey and Thor all made the ASG. Swarzak made it, too. Cabrera and Frazier were our only position players that made it. All the pitchers contributed to helping the NL win and both Frazier and Cabrera drove in a run in the victory.

On 7/15, the bullpen took a hit when AJ Ramos went down a torn UCL. He will be out for at least 9-10 months. We called Paul Sewald back up to take his place.

On 7/23 Thor made history. He threw a perfect game in front of the home crowd. Thor struck out 17 Padres en route to the second no hitter in Mets history and the first perfect game since 2012.

deGrom suffered a setback in his recovery so he didn’t start rehab until 7/27. In his first start, he strained his hamstring which will keep him out of action for 2-3 weeks, prolonging his stint in Vegas.

We spent a lot of time considering our plans for the trade deadline. We opted against any huge moves and only traded for Oakland’s Jed Lowrie.

Man tell me about it, I was hesitant on even signing the SP I feel like I'm being type cast by players and agents. Its funny to me, maybe I watch to many KBO highlights on twitter or something.

Yalowitz is nothing special 55/50/60/60/45 for his batting ratings max he's either at or within 5 of them all. You are correct he is Jeff's kid. After the first week he leads the team in HRs with 3 in that number 2 hole. He's also playing a pretty good RF early. He was the 4th overall pick by the White Sox.

Unfortunately I'll be looking for a new manager as Mickey Callaway didn't want to re-sign. I was thinking hard on trading for Manny Machado but in the end I didn't go through with it, I didn't want to clean out a already weak minor league system.

Here are the only trades I made:
