Re: OOTP19 Ratings and AI Real Talk
I use 20/80 rating scale because it's the "real" way, but I keep wanting to switch to 0-100 because it helps differentiate the players. Two guys could be rated 50, but I feel like an actual scout would be able to say 1 is a better 50 than the other. Maybe one day we will get more ways to differentiate guys on the 20/80 scale.
For AI Logic, I use 40/30/25/5. I've seen this suggested elsewhere (or close to it), and I like the logic behind it. It keeps a players abilities as the most weighted category, and at the same time it provides high value to actual performance. I think I may try 40/25/30/5 since current year performance could be skewed by sample size.
In year 1 of my new Braves franchise, I bumped trading difficulty up to Hard. Haven't really noticed differences from the default normal yet, but I haven't really tried for any big trades yet either.
How do you guys handle your minor league systems? I have minor league system management set to AI control, with a preference towards potential, but I haven't been really happy with it. Is manual control the only good way to do it? It is just daunting to control 6 different rosters/lineups in addition to everything at the major league level.
1 - I keep seeing instances where high potential players aren't getting any PT because they are blocked by a lesser prospect, as well as cases where a high ceiling SP is put in the bullpen over someone who probably won't ever be in the majors.
2 - The minor league rosters get completely out of hand. I've noticed this in past versions of OOTP as well, and in year 3 of my first Braves franchise I had at least 30 players at every level of my minors. In my new franchise I've set all rookie ball levels to have a max of 30 players, we'll see if this helps.
3 - In my current franchise, I keep having instances where my AAA and AA teams only have 23 or 24 players on the roster. Not sure if this is a result of limited max roster size in rookie ball or not.
4 - How do you handle personnel changes? I just got frustrated with the game and gave full control to the AI for hiring/firing. I'd like to control this aspect, but there are so many coaches who refuse o sign with youComment

What's interesting is the asst. GM's opinion sometimes changes with different trade difficulty lol
Just to check, you have that on Potential Ratings? I do and haven't seen this. The most I've seen is a SP moved to closer but that's often because of his stuff (it plays up as a reliever right now), not his potential.
In any case, that's what the force role and force start strategy settings are for

Even then, only way I could see myself letting the AI handle this unless it knows how to consider handling/teaching ratings. If it does and it can "see" them (we can't unless we use the editor...which is ridiculous...but that's another issue...), then maybe I'll try it in a test franchise, fire my whole staff and see what the AI picks and check ratings with editor.
Otherwise, I try to either stick with "neutral" coaches or coaches that have the same influence as key players I want to focus in on, and try to carry that through most of the levels (either neutral or key areas).
Since you get the most insight about managers (development influence and relationships), I make getting at least "Green Average" (Average that's close to "Good") for Development and Average for relationship with any key prospect having a good relationship with the manager a top priority at all levels.
Honestly, I really should try to hire managers for all my coaching spots (and maybe bench coaches or anyone who is interested in managing in general). Why? Because you see a manager's development and relationships, which can hint to their handling and teaching ratings.
Once I get coaches that are helping my kids, especially my decent or better prospects, grow, I extend, extend, extend and Rick Astley says "Never gonna give up, never gonna let you go"Last edited by KBLover; 04-12-2018, 04:46 PM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: OOTP19 Ratings and AI Real Talk
Ah nice, didn't think about the force role option. Thanks!
Interesting. I had it happen to me constantly in OOTP18, I think I saw other people reporting this on their forum too. It happened a few times at the start of '19 and I just said screw it and I've left it on AI control since then. It's always been with hiring the minor leagues. I still handle the majors though.Comment

I put it on Hard too before making the latest deals. Can't really tell either so I might leave it and see. Also wonder if this impacts AI trades.

Yeah they will get like that. For me, it's the rookie leagues that are wild. I just leave it. With things set by Potential, I'll get the good ones playing and the rest can just faff about or whatever. I'll only cut them if they are like 24 and still stuck in rookie ball...if I feel like it...otherwise, I let minor league FA take care of it. They'll be gone, I'll have spots, I'll force up R level guys that are older or have some "yellow" on them, and I move in international complex guys into R.
Not sure as I don't limit sizes, but it could be injuries? Though, I don't know why they don't move people around.
Really? I can't remember being turned down, even giving "big name" coaches (like Girardi, Farrell, etc.) minor league jobs, even when I was the Marlins.

You probably only have 10-20 prospects you really care about at any given time, so managing those ones a bit more carefully is not so bad. I actually find it quite fun to do so. I put these ones on a short list called "KEY PROSPECTS" (creative, huh?) and click on each player a couple of times per season just to check in and make sure something hasn't going horribly wrong.
I don't set roster limits for any minor league levels, but I do tend to go through and perform a "cleanup procedure" every 1-2 years or so, by cutting anyone who looks to have no business in my organization (bad ratings, bad stats, too old).Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
