Re: All Star Baseball... First Impressions & Questions for those with the game

Playing X-Box version, posted this earlier at Sport's Reviewers:

Played a couple of games + home run derby. I was not a fan of last years game, mostly because of of the lack of variety of hits and I felt the OF's got to way too many balls.

First things first: IGN is on crack. Seriously. I can't believe that chump kept throwing home instead of to 1st. There is no bug here at all on that count. That was all his idiocy.

The variety of hits (so far) is improved. Saw a couple of balls drop in between the SS and CF that definitely would have been caught last year. So far so good.

The game looks VERY nice. The "crouch" I have heard complaints about is a big nothing, IMO. The stadiums are great, even the phony expansion ones. The inclusion of future stadiums is simply fantastic.

The Franchise/Expansion is as deep as advertised. I will be getting into that after a few more games under my belt.

The pitch speed is still too fast for this old-timer. Using the cursor is very difficult for me. Easy mode is simpler, but the pitches still come in so fast I find myself swinging at almost everything. Not sure how I am going to improve on this.

So far is VERY early, but this game seems much improved over last year from a gameplay standpoint, and that was my biggest problem with the game last year. Again, IGN oughta discipline that writer for that poor excuse of a review. Do NOT believe that hack.

Two more trivial notes:
1.) Tons of legends, but no Stan The Man this year. Ugh! I wonder if Stan decided not to appear this year of what. He is the most underrated great player ever.
2.)Played HR Derby in Sportsman's park and put 4 of them on the roof in RF. The ball bounced off of the roof. Very cool. I was using Gehrig, Foxx, Ruth and Josh Gibson, so I had plenty of pop in the lineup.

I am still more of a HH man and will be getting that on X-Box, but ASB2004 is very impressive so far. We'll see if my initial impressions stand up.
