Re: PYS5 - FAQ, Manual help, etc..

A few things to make note of...

If there are too many HRs in the games you are playing, switch to the HEAVY ball type. It's the most expensive one in the VP shop. Not only will it tone down the HRs, but it'll add some weight to the ball giving it a more realistic trajectory, and make it not look so much like a wiffle ball.

The HEAVY ball is 15000 VPs which may seem like a lot, but if you go to the HR derby and select the VP 500 option you can rack up the points pretty quickly. The most I got was when I hit 20/20 and it came to around 7000 points. Just use Rhodes from Orix to make sure you get points fast.

Speaking of Tuffy, I had him on third and sent him home on a grounder to the shortstop's backhand... And he bowled over the catcher and knocked the ball loose! I use assisted running, and was tapping the shoulder buttons... And I don't know if that is user controlled (like maybe if I wasn't tapping he would've slid, I don't know).

Also, did anyone else notice you can avoid the runner taking you out on DPs at second? It's pretty cool. I had a few plays where I simply pressed the button fast trying to turn it fast and the fielder came across the bag into the runner, and didn't even make the throw. If you move the fielder before you throw he'll get out of the way, with a nice little animation before throwing. This is with fielding on MANUAL, though I don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: PYS5 - FAQ, Manual help, etc..

Thanks for the answers to my questions above. Here's another one:

        1. I think I'm going to start a season in pennant mode. Can you pretty much skip the training, especially since I'll probably only play one season, or will it hurt the team's performance?

And these two have yet to be answered:

        2. In the shop there is an unlockable "Setting" that you can toggle on or off from the shop menu. What does this do when on?

        3. Anyone know what the "Install to HDD" does from the Main Menu: Utility section (the same place where you can choose to change the settings)? I went ahead and did it and it took about 5 minutes to apparently install something... But nothing seems to be changed about the game... Maybe it has to do with online play (something I haven't tried)?

You'll see it in a lot of PS3 games now... installing files to the HD helps the game load up faster, because the read time off the disc is much slower than it is the hard drive. Blu-ray discs hold a lot more disc space too, extending the load time off of a disc. So my guess is that the option helps speed up the load time for a game.

That's what I was thinking, though I didn't really notice a difference for the load times.

And I suppose conversely, if there are too few HRs, use one of the lighter ball options. The thing is I use zone hitting and the percentage of hits that are HRs is pretty high. If you use the HEAVY ball it's a significant difference as the ball feels much different off the bat, and it just doesn't travel as far either.

It also helps to handicap yourself by NOT toggling on the power swing (R1).

The zone hitting is a tad bit too accurate, and these changes make the game play better with zone hitting.

Yeah that is what I noticed about zone hitting. The first pitch that I saw was a HR by lead off guy, which could happen but not the way I have seen him hit during my season. Gotta get some VP's.
I do not do any of the training, i feel like it is cheating because I am not sure if the cpu is training.

That is good to know about running over the catcher and avoiding getting wiped out on a DP.

I had pitching on the hardest level and ball speed on real ,man is that what it feels like to be in any pro league. Had to drop that down.

Thanks for the answer. I checked out training and it seems pretty in depth anyways, with much need of translation. I guess I'll just skip that.

Also, now that I paid a bit more attention... The load times DO seem a bit faster after the HDD install. So you may wanna do that if you need a few extra seconds in your life.

                  Only one unanswered question left:

                  1. In the shop there is an unlockable "Setting" that you can toggle on or off from the shop menu. What does this do when on?

The mystery of this game is almost... Less mysterious.

I threw together this one page manual, which covers the basics for the PS3 version. It's pretty self explanatory, but just in case:

                    1. Print Front.
                    2. Turn Page Over.
                    3. Print Back.
                    4. Fold as needed along dotted line.
                    5. Fold up completely and tuck into game case when not in use.

koshi - I don't have the game, but that looks pretty sweet. Good work for the OSers man. I actually man buy JetsFan's copy if I decide to pull the trigger so this will really help me out.

I think that there is a way to throw the ball into the crowd after a third out on a flyball in the outfield.
