How is your franchise doing in OOTP11?

Just decided to make a mini thread here instead of making a dynasty report over at the HQ this year. Since I won't have time to write articles and what not, I just decided to provide some snips here and there about how my dynasty is doing and I was wondering how many of yours' are doing as well.

I'm playing in a realistic style league with the Atlanta Braves. Ghost minors are turned OFF so I will have to deal with the minor league injuries as if I were really the GM (we'll see how I can keep up with that) and dynamic league feature OFF (because I don't want any drastic changes to my MLB league).

Some key changes to the settings have been the AI Trades. I set it to very low frequency, hard level difficulty, and set it so that it would favor prospects.

Since I'm playing in a realistic league, I set all of the rosters (including minors) so that it would correspond to what it looks like in real life.

25-Man Roster (Rotation ordered by cost)

    Derek Lowe
    Tim Hudson
    Kenshin Kawakami
    Jair Jurrjens
    Tommy Hanson

    Kris Medlen
    Eric O'Flaherty
    Jesse Chavez
    Jo-Jo Reyes
    Peter Moylan
    Takashi Saito
    Billy Wagner

    CA Brian McCann
    1B Troy Glaus
    2B Martin Prado
    3B Chipper Jones
    SS Yunel Escobar

    LF Matt Diaz
    CF Nate McLouth
    RF Jason Heyward

    CA David Ross
    CIF/COF Eric Hinske
    UT Omar Infante
    OF Melky Cabrera
    IF Brooks Conrad

Just downloaded and installed the game. About to set up my league.

    What are ghost minors?

When you can play ghost players in the minors so that you don't always have to have them filled. For example, you can have only 6 players in AAA and the rest of the games are played by ghost minors and what not... so that your players never get tired.

If you're playing an MLB league, you might want to look at the All-in-One Mod.

        Oh gotcha.

Yup I installed that mod. Getting ready to start. Just need to figure out a team to run with.

I'm downloading the mod right now. I'm going to start my first league as a manager only at the lower levels. How does the coaching progression work? Can I be promoted? Or do I need to search for new jobs to move up?

I'm playing a 2010 quickstart as the Cleveland Indians. I'm 32-41 and in last.

Playing a 2010 quickstart with the All in One Mod installed.

Took the Padres and traded Adrian Gonzalez to the Indians for Matt LaPorta and Michael Brantley.

Started off playing .500 ball, but my rotation has been decimated by injuries and on June 8th I stand at 25-32. LaPorta is hitting well, Brantley has played well, he's given me more speed and defense in the lineup and has gotten on base pretty well for such a young player. Probably needs another year in the minors though.

Heath Bell and Scott Hairston are about to go on the trading block with some hopes of getting a young power arm or two.

I sim, but every now and then, I'll jump in and manage a game.

I manage every game. I let the CPU manager do all the strategies, but I handle the subs.

I'm 38-35 in my Pirates franchise. Trying to get them out of the cellar. Surprisingly, I've made just little moves and I'm sitting 3 games above .500.

I signed a couple free agents to minor league contracts, Branden Looper and Brandon Fahey (utility IF), who've put up respectable numbers for me. Garrett Jones and McCutchen are having monster seasons so far and my bullpen is one of the best in baseball.

I'm getting close to the deadline so I'm probably going to unload Ryan Doumit while he's still playing hot and if I'm farther out of it, Octavio Dotel and Paul Maholm. I need power arms in the minor leagues real bad.

Does managing the game vs quick sim have any affect on the outcome of the game? Meaning will I lose more often with a bad team if I quick sim rather than manage? That's what ive been doing for the Tacoma Rainiers (M's AAA team) and I was horrible last season... something like 25 games under .500

No, there would be no penalty in the players' performances or anything like that. The outcome would only be different if you managed the game and decided to put someone like Joba in instead of Mo Rivera and got bombed as opposed to the CPU putting Mo Rivera in there in sims.

I think there is something to be said that if you play out games and are a really good manager you might win a few more games. But no one, not you or the players are penalized for quick-simming games. I strictly quick-sim and never play out games.

Quick question: Are you guys enjoying the Face Gen pictures? I honestly thought only a few players on my Twins franchise looked like the real players so I switched back to photos and for me it just feels more like a real franchise when I see real photos. Curious what you all think since FaceGen is so highly spoken of in this year's version. I've never really given it a chance. I guess it would be cool to see the pics change.

Word of warning: I did have some trouble jumping back and forth between photo and facegen. I had to revert back to an old save from my hard drive because for some reason the game quit recognizing a few Twins photos and that bugged the hell outta me. Luckily I only lost about 5 simmed games into the season. I'm sure more experienced users would know how to fix that without have to go to a backup save.
