    Re: Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2013

Got my copy of PYS 6 today. Love it and definitely think I'm going to order 12. Wish I could order 13 but idk if I want to spend $85 on a video game haha it's frustrating not being able to read and understand everything but the gameplay is top notch. I also love the enthusiasm of the commentators. They went crazy when I hit a bomb with Chipper, it was great.

You guys should check out the main article in the April issue of Edge Magazine. Konami is working on some absolutely stunning graphics for their games. Their new rendering engine looks insane.. Hopefully PYS will be one of the games that receives the upgrade.

Check out a brief intro here: http://www.edge-online.com/magazine/...vable-visuals/

        Re: Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2013

So I am playing a "rental" version of Power Pros 2009 for the PS2 this weekend. The main menu is in English, but beyond that it's all Japanese.

I am able to navigate through the menus to the point that I can get into a game pretty easily in any of the modes just by pressing circle, but the problem is that the game defaults to super easy beginner mode, which means I hit 6 home runs in my first 9 at bats. Also, the fielding is set to auto fielding by default.

If I could just figure out how to change the difficulty sliders, I think the game would be fine. The main reason I'm checking it out is for the World Baseball Classic mode, which is very cool. All the other modes seem to be the same from Power Pros 2008, though I hear there are a few more Success mode options.

By chance, is there any type of translation guide out for Power Pros 2009?

Heh, get yourself caught in a rundown and see how the announcers react. It sounds like they are constipated while the camera pans to your manager looking very upset.

Yes, the Japanese commentator is awesome.

              Spoiler

I will try to grab some footage of Power Pros 2009 this weekend so you can see what the menus look like there. It's mainly just the pause menu that I am hoping to figure out, because that is where the difficulty can be tweaked.

Hahah I'll have to try that. I think I'm going to order 2012 later today. 6 is fun but I'm sure it's improved a lot since then.

So here is what the pause menu looks like in Power Pros 2009 (fast forward to 16:50):

                  <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/G9TX-OuX-NU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The fourth option on the left side on the pause menu seems to be where the difficulty sliders are. I have no idea what any of them mean.

I noticed that the computer never fouls off pitches....how could a game so realistic miss this important part of hitting?

                    Even The Show does this.

                      What version do you have?

Does the CPU swing out of the strike zone, btw?

The better CPU hitters definitely do in 12 and they also swing out of the strike zone if you've set the count up in your favour. Might depend what CPU hitting difficulty you're on.

I play PYS 2012 on CPU hitting only two notches above medium and they will punish poor or mediocre pitching so much that I had to abandon a few pennant modes as my pitching roster of the selected team just didn't have the depth to cope... but I sort of liked that. Sure, at this level, my ace pitcher should usually guarantee a win against a team with weaker offense but the rotation can be very sketchy once fatigue and the hugely important condition kicks in.

The addition of full bullpen warm-up periods in 2013 is very welcome but will add to the difficulty when a pitcher gets into a tight spot.

I agree the CPU should foul off more pitches. Notice though that you can play games fast in PYS, so perhaps it's to appease fast paced Japanese people that just want to cut to the chase? I'd rather see realistic foul percentages, but to me it's not a game killer.

The CPU does chase bad pitches if you set them up right.

Real time pitch grips are in 2013. So if you're pitching from a broadcast perspective you'll see the pitcher change grips inside his glove when you change his repertoire. Will be interesting to see how well you can pick this up when batting.
