    Re: Manage only Mode Thread

While the flailing swing is maddening when it happens , the stats still come out fairly well. The person who listed the comparison to a text version and not seeing it is a good way to look at it.

But I don't see what the big issue is with the wall hit singles... I mean, sure it's a bit frustrating, but I'm almost done with June and my Twins are leading the league in doubles, so, on the whole, it's still not far off from what I'm seeing, stat-wise.

      Re: Manage only Mode Thread

Ok Guys, I'm a little late getting into this thread, but I"m a big time manage only guy. I loved the realism and speed that the high heat 1 pitch mode used to offer us.

Here's what I want to do: I want to play a manage only game without editing the players - Which I equate to being a pain in the butt - and unnecessary. Basically, if the only way to get this game to produce realistic "stats" (mind you, I said stats, not necessarily graphics representing the play) is to spend time editing the attributes of the players, I'm not interested in this game.

Is this at all possible? I now hear people saying "Sure, there are some wierd animations with the swings, but in the end the K's are reasonable." Is this a true statement? How bad is the doubles bug? At the end of the season, do you have guys with around 60 doubles (league leaders).

Let me know whats going on. I want this game to work without doing anything to the player attributes. Also, what is all of this I'm hearing about having to start with a 2-0 count. Is there any way around this?

I can give you a little feed back.

I want to play a manage only game without editing the players - Which I equate to being a pain in the butt -

That it is, but, my opinion, it is necessary. You can do your team, and to make it less time consuming, do each team at the start of your three game series.

and unnecessary. Basically, if the only way to get this game to produce realistic "stats" (mind you, I said stats, not necessarily graphics representing the play) is to spend time editing the attributes of the players, I'm not interested in this game.

Maybe Knight can give you feed back on this as I haven't done a stats check using the ratings changes I've done.

, but in the end the K's are reasonable."

My opinion Ks and Ws are reasonable, especially if you use generated pitch count.

How bad is the doubles bug?

Well, some people have said they don't see it, but, when I took it out of the box and saw 385 foot singles off the walls it really bothered me. I saw them a lot. Runners not tagging up at third on obvious sacs, etc. It was a very discouraging part of the game and I knew that I wouldn't continue playing this game. The tweaks changed my mind 100%.\

At the end of the season, do you have guys with around 60 doubles (league leaders).

If Knight doesn't answer this first Ill try to sim a season today and look at my Padres stats for you.

Let me know whats going on. I want this game to work without doing anything to the player attributes.

My opinion. It doesn't draw you in when you have runners stopping at first base on doubles and not tagging.

Also, what is all of this I'm hearing about having to start with a 2-0 count. Is there any way around this?

Generated pitch counts. You can play without them. Give you an example, RANDOM might start a batter out 2-0, the next batter will come up 0-0, the next 3-2. You can set the game to start at any count you want, even SMART counts which would take a control pitcher like David Wells and might start the batter off 1-2, 0-2, but rarely, because of his control, a 2-0, 3-2 count.

            Hope this helps.

Have jim or knight or anyone done any adjustment attempts to pitcher control in order to draw more walks? I don't like generated pitch counts(I like the progression of an at bat). I've thought about trying to edit down control but I don't want to open that can of worms while I'm still trying to work out the OF range, arm, speed stuff.

Today I'm going to try to keep the CF's with high range and just drop the corner of's range way down. Maybe that will give me the happy medium between singles off the wall and too many doubles and triples....we'll see.

When I compared it to OOTP with graphics, I meant that as a GOOD thing. To me OOTP is a great game for a GM/Manage only guy like myself, but not being able to visualy see the players bothered me a little. Even if OOTP had a voice announcer, like a radio broadcast it would have been better.gaTo me ASB is the perfect blend of a baseball game. Good gameplay, good stats, beautiful stadiums, good graphics, franchise options galore...you get what I'm saying. Anyway, when I referenced OOTP, I only meant it in a positive way.

Another excellent thought in just dropping the corner outfielder ratings....Maybe there won't be as many gappers this way....although when I simmed some seasons...the stats seemed right on(with my attribute edits). I want to play a chunk of games to see if playing the games produces higher stats. In the last season I simmed, Todd Helton led the league with 58 doubles. That's good.

For those of you that don't want to edit rosters...and don't mind waiting a little while...I will be releasing two roster sets. Both will have every player in ASB...a real player or minor leaguer. One set will be a "stock" set as far as NO attribute edits(the first release)...the second will be a blend of my and Jim416's edits according to what we(I'm including you here Jim...even if I did not really ask you yet ....I just need your feedback on what you are finding your best results with the attribute edits) find gives the best results for manage only.
...also Ragnar I'm going to try editing only pitcher control and see if this raises walks in MO/without generated counts....I will get back to you later with this.

                              Jim316;

Thanks alot for the detailed answer with my questions about ASB2005 manage only mode.

Lets say I agree to do the roster edits for each series. Will this fix most of the problems? I don't mind spending the time, but does it result in a playable product?

Without searching through this vast post, can you give me a quick guide to the edits you make before each series to the opposing team?

Thanks alot, I really appreciate it.

Thanks alot for the detailed answer with my questions about ASB2005 manage only mode.

Lets say I agree to do the roster edits for each series. Will this fix most of the problems? I don't mind spending the time, but does it result in a playable product?
