Re: Why are YOU bjying ASB 2005 this yr

First of all MVP was a first year effort. They are afforded a second shot. Secondly, it's more than SDROTAR's impressions threads. I have actually talked to him about MVP,and I value his opinions on baseball games as much or more than anyones. He has a copy now as he's working on a review by the way. Also the closer bug has not been verified. No one knows if it's just when intervening in a game or if it's when playing a full game. Also no one knows of any mitigating circumstances such as pitcher fatigue for the season or what.

I have played every iteration of ASB since it's come out. And their stadiums are amazing. I thought last years franchis modes was incredibly deep, and I absolutely love Expansion mode. But on the field the game has been no fun for me.

Like I said cursor hitting was too easy to master. And when zone hitting, foul balls were next to non-exixtent, 9 out of 10 balls put in play where to the middle 1/3 of the field, and I felt at times the CPU offense posed no threat. I actually ended up letting the CPU control the pitcher to attempt to get more realistic results. The CPU baserunning logic was always kind of funky, but they did seem to improve that quite a bit last year.

From what I am hearing from people I talk to,it doesn't sound like these issues have really been fixed. So I have no plans to give Acclaim another 40 or 50 bucks. Now if the other games flop, and it sounds like ASB has actually taken a step forward on the field this year then I will give it a shot, but like with MLB 2004 I am skeptical at best.

The fact they keep pushing it back doesn't give me the warm fuzzies either as this can sometimes mean there are unresolved issues they are attempted to sqaush at the last minute.

Do you know what kind of on-field improvements have been made for 05? Sounds like you don't know and don't care.

Also, you don't plan to buy MLB either? So when you said you plan to buy every game, did you mean MVP, ESPN, and Slugfest?

The producer and lead artist for ASB have been on the board over the last few weeks saying they've long since finished the game. They're just waiting like the rest of us for it to go through QA and go gold. They haven't been working on the game for weeks now - it's long since been out of their hands, and they don't know why the street date is being pushed back. In fact, he said they're already working on 06.

Again, it sounds like you have a certain degree of illogical vindictiveness toward this series - like you've already written off the series and bought into MVP big time, and it doesn't really matter what kind of game ASB05 is - and I'm wondering if that's the case with other writers for the site.

... none of which answers the question... "Why would somebody not buying ASB even respond in a thread entitled, 'Why are YOU bjying ASB 2005 this yr'"?

It seems like it would be chaos if every individual in the various baseball forums buying just one, two, or even three of the games felt the need to respond to this question in all of the others with an "I am not".

I haven't paid attention as much this year. Every year I read about all their improvements and every year I end up leaving disappointed. So this year I have decided to save myself the disappointment.

Like I said at this point I have no plans to purchase this game, but plans can change, and if they actually put a decent game on the field for once, then I would be more than willing to give it a shot. But I am going to wait and see what people whom I trust have to say about the game first. It's as simple as that. Acclaim has gotten my money for the last several years and I don't think they deserve to get another check from me until they've earned it.

I have not given the same chance to MLB or MVP in the past which is why I am getting them sight unseen this year. Same as I have done for ASB the last several years. It's as simple as that.
