Stupid question, but what is collision detection?

Something very important for the walls of baseball (how and where the ball bounces) and tackling for football games.

collision dectection... is... to put it in easy way... if you hit a homer.. and it is supposed to hit off of a surface (wall window etc) you dont ever get to see that.. it goes through that said item.. well it does bounce off if it is collision dectected... i hope that helps.. and the more we get into this topic.. the more i want to get this game.. again this will be my first yr...

Re: Why are YOU bjying ASB 2005 this yr

Jesus, would you look at the pitiful attempts to nitpick this game? No offense, but "COLLISION DETECTION SHOULDN'T COUNT, MVP HAS IT THIS YEAR!!".....even if that were true, which I doubt it is, who has had the best and most awesome collision detection for the past HOW many years now? and who has had the most opportunity to improve upon it?! If there is any in MVP I doubt it will even be 1/500th as good as ASB has it, and that's putting it NICELY.

                  ANYWAYS....

                  1. Expansion Teams - People all over the world love to create, and when you give them a chance to pretty much have creative freedom with their own Baseball team? The only thing more you could possibly ask for is the ability to build your own stadium, and who's to say that's not the future of Baseball gaming? Why do you think the Sims is so popular...because it's fun to create something new that you can call your own, and with ASB's Expansion teams it gives you a chance to have your cake and eat it too, Make your team and Hit some Homers with 'em.

                  2. Ability to play in all the Stadiums, Forbes, Polo Grounds, Bakers, my personal fav Tiger Stadium, I mean come on....not only can you have your cake and eat it too, but you get to eat said cake while standing in a monument to the game you love, whether it be new or historical? How kickass is that?? Too kickass for words man....it just...to this day it blows my mind...you wanna talk about realism, well this is the kind of thing that makes me feel like It's really me out on that mound or at the plate, in this huge mind blowing stadium...you just don't get that feeling of total immersion in other games, because they DO NOT og this far to immerse you, they just tantalize you with side games and cheap tricks.

                  3. Uploadable Walkup/Bullpen Music - Are you kidding me? How many times do you wish you could walk up as your favorite player to your favorite tune? Or assign silly songs to famous players? Oh, I can't wait to hear "I'm walking, yes indeed, I'm walkin'"...as Barry steps to the plate this spring...on my game...

                  4. This year....I'm tellin' ya....at least on the Xbox, man....the Stadiums look FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC! It doesn't feel loke paperboard cutout trees in the backdrop or popup buildings from a book, it feels like they're really there man! I mean, they stand out just enough to be noticeable, but only to the point that you feel like they're really there and you're really in a ballpark looking at them. It's just totally....wow...I'm amazed...

                  5. Options - Now....ASB has not always been known for its options...not at all, man...but this year they got it all! I mean, ya got the 3 or 4 bating camera angles, the behind the feilder camera, all these different camera angles...you get to see the entire park for crying out loud! Pitch speeds, one two three four five, COUNT 'EM! difficulty settings? 5! read 'em and weep! Anybody...literally anybody, someone who's never picked up a video game controller will probably be able to play this game. I mean, FIVE DIFFICULTY SETTINGS?! can you imagine how easy the first one is?!

I mean, in my eyes they just went all out this year. Maybe they just figured, screw it, we might not be around for long, Acclaim could easily be going under soon, why not make the best damn game we can? That, in my opinion, is what they've done. I really do believe that I'm going to be playing this game in 3 years....not the newest version, THIS ONE. Go ahead and laugh, but I mean it. I believe. I've seen this game progress....if it weren't for fans complaining about the "John Hancock" sign in Fenway, and depicting what it should be like, they might never have put it in there...that tells you how much input the devs took into consideration when they were making this game, constantly coming back to these forums answerng every waking question we could think to ask! I tend to trust people that say they're going to do something, and commit, and really actually freakin' do it beyond what I'd expected. Sure, sometimes ASB_man had to put off a few questions for many different reasons, some of them being he didn't know at the time, but he never told a lie....he never decieved in a way that would make you think twice...him and art were true to their words, and the pictures and movies speak for themselves, and to me they have spoken, their words were clear:

Buy this game and you will not regret it. It's worth every penny, every dime you can muster up to pay for it. It is the Baseball game you've always dreamed of.

Now, I don't know about you, but I'm a picky gamer. Nobody here would believe it, but it's true. I study every game I buy long and hard, sometimes bust my *** trying to get a sneak play in just to test it out and see if I like it, becasue I'm a fickle guy. I didn't even like SSBM, thought SSB was MUCH better. For a game to spark my interest, replayability is key. If I can't look at a game I'm about to buy and honestly tell myself that in two weeks I'll be playing it...I don't buy it. Period. I refuse to spend more than $5 on any game that won't last me two weeks, let alone a month. Every ASB game I've ever bought has kept my interest for 6-8 months, and to me that's a big deal. Some baseball games that I've rented/owned in the past haven't kept me interested long enough to play an entire season. I rented MVP 2003 and wanted to take it back 2 hours after I got it. I got WSB2k3, and it was a great game, but I got bored in 2 months. Now....with all ASB has brought to the plate, and considering it all appeals to my "pallate"....I'm telling you that by the time '06 comes out, if it even does, I'll still be playing '05 content in my heart and soul that I've found the holy freakin' grail of Video Games for MY tastes.

It might not be for everyone, but I wish everyone it didn't appeal to would cool the (BLEEP) off and let people have their own opinions and tastes. The very meaning of fanboy is to do the opposite of that, to go into a thread about the game you don't want to get and say "OMG YOU SUCK, THIS ONE IS BETTER-EST!"...if you find yourself doing that...you are just...god....pathetic isn't even a good enough word to describe it....disgraceful? Just stop your mouth before words cross your lips, it aint worth anyone's time, like what you like and stop interfering with the flow! For the last time, and maybe the first time for some people, I'm going to spell it out for you: AN OPINION IS A BASIC FEELING YOU HAVE TOWARDS SOMETHING. NO ONE'S OPINION IS LAW. ALL SEPERATE OPINIONS ROCK. FORCING OPINIONS SUCKS. THE END.

and to quote a comedian I saw on Comedy Central last night:

BK, you seem to already have a pretty strong opinion about ASB05. First you slam it on the MVP board and proclaim that you'll buy every baseball game made this year - except ASB - because even a person with a "weak will" wouldn't be tempted to buy ASB05. Then you come into the ASB board and post in a thread for people who do plan to buy the game just to let everyone here know you're not going to. I'd say that's beyond disinterest. That's straying toward vindictiveness... for a game that hasn't been released yet.

OK, I'll play along. What is it about the new game that has already made you decide you're not going to buy it - and to go around to all the boards telling everyone how awful it is?

why hasn't anyone listed gameplay as a reason?
