The game seems to have a lot of things wrong with it, from the lack of steal attempts to general game play. Who is saying that it is perfect? You have got to be kidding!

I hate to be pessimistic but I have a feeling ASB is going to have its own share of flaws (like every game). Hopefully the number of bugs in this year's game will be kept to a minimal. Maybe that's why the game got held back from the 3/9 release datea. Although the 3/9 date was unofficial, it is clearly obvious it was Acclaim's original "target" date as we saw a bunch of early ads in magazines and game companies posting that date (or one very close to it).

In its defense, ASB didn't seem to have very many bugs the last 2 years. Some people thought it was too hard to hit, others complained about the vacuum glove effect and/or the poor bat/ball collision detection, and some others just did not like the look or the pace of the game. But I honestly don't remember many people complaining about bugs. (It could just be selective memory on my part though.)

Although I have never played ASB, it is my #1 game as I'm holding out for it. I've done extensive research about the game and now that I think about it, alot of the complaints were little things that aren't even bugs (like you mentioned, vacuum effect).

Nobody is really sure why ASB is 'delayed', although, like someone said, the delay itself is just as unofficial as the release date.

The game could have been held up for numerous reasons unrealated to the development process. The delays could be caused by delays with the Sony/MS certification process. Or perhaps there was an issue at the manufacturer or boxer or printers or a million other reason we have no insight to.

Beside if the game was delayed an extra half month to fine tune everything I have no complaints. Personally I would rather have a publisher that sided with developers in extending the time they need to get the game just right rather than a publisher that sides with marketing departments and forces devs to hit street dates with a pre-mature product.
