    Re: After playing MVP........................

I rented MVP today (Xbox). It looks clean on my 50" widescreen and the graphics are ok. However, during non-playing sequences, the game seems to run very choppy. It's not unbearable, but it is noticeable and does take away from the atmosphere (for me anyway). The uniform colors are still a bit off for some teams, something which I hated in ESPN baseball. And the stadiums, while pretty good looking, still don't compare to ASB.

I really like the pitching interface, makes for a very challenging game. The batting I can give or take. Personally, I'm used to the cursor batting of ASB and have no problems with it, so MVP is just a change of pace for me. I was able to draw walks a lot more in ASB last year than I have so far in MVP so I'd give that a thumbs down at this time. I played ASB pretty much exclusively last year except for the 2 days after I bought ESPN, then traded it in. I'd rate MVP's batting in the middle. I'm used to ASB, can appreciate the batting in MVP, and detested it in ESPN.

I'm still looking forward to ASB. I played last year's game entirely on my widescreen in stretched mode and the game was still fine for me, just a bit pixellated on the players. I'm anxious to see the cleaned up appearance of this years game.

      That's just stupid.

A quick game let's you play more games in a season thus making you feel a part of your franchise. Too long and it feels like work.

The only true way to determine whether it has that "real" baseball feel to it, is for it to last more than 3 hours 17 minutes per game. That, my friends, is a real baseball game.

I actually had a game that long in ASB lsat year. But it was 19 innings.

I've played about 25 games of MVP since Wednesday night, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. it's got an extreme amount of potential, but still has LOTS of bugs. In my games, the CPU has not attempted ONE steal against me, not one. CPU also has very strange substitution patterns also. The "manage mode" is a joke...and if you happen to be one of those people who likes CPU vs CPU, this game isn't for you either. I did it for three consecutive games....hits and runs are very scarce. But I digress. I bought ASB about a month ago (used) from gamestop...It's really been a very good game...if they can improve the offensive output on real "manage mode", I'll be happen when the new game comes out. Create a player was nice, the atmosphere was very good, and I didn't even have an extreme problem with the "vacuum" defensive plays that happened EVERY once in a while. I'm expecting this years game to improve upon last years game, whenever it comes out.

I've played 13 games of MVP and the only thing I enjoy about it is the pitching meter. I've seen some lapses in my fielding, need to check if it's on assisted or manual because the computer gives me the control right when the ball is coming to my fielder. Anyways, just like the guy above, I have yet to see the CPU steal on me and also, I've yet to see my player get walked unintentionally (Only 2IBB) in the game.

Overall, I'm only happy about the pitching in the game and the home run/pitcher showdown but in the other departments i.e. batting/fielding, I'd prefer ASB.

Maybe it's because I'm not used to the game.

I've played about 12 games of MVP including minor league so far - and managed about that many - and I'm pretty impressed. It's obvious (and admirable) what EA was going for, and they seem to have succeeded for the most part. Like Ed and others, I've seen a lot of quirky stuff and rough edges that none of the reviews (that I read) mentioned. But it's not "gamekillers" or anything. There are tons of great things about the game as well.

Overall, though, I just don't think the meters are for me. It just takes too much concentration on every pitch... especially for a new father.

The more I play, the more I'm looking forward to All Star. I really, really miss so many things about ASB. And my wife straight-up refuses to listen to the commentary for my games until I get ASB. It's gotten to the point that she'll actually leave the room if I don't have the sound turned off on MVP.
