Man, I hate ASB's cursor system. Completely unrealistic - and awkward. I'd never consider playing with anything other than zone.

Cub - You never had a problem with last year's zone hitting system? I tried cursor, but it wasn't for me. I'm with BK on this one. The pitching/batting interface was what held ASB back for me last year.

No doubt it's depth is amazing (also stadiums, player models etc....). However I had trouble with the lack of hit variety using zone hitting. Maybe I didn't give the game enough time though?

What are your thoughts on it? This is the big question mark for me this year.

I never had any problem with it. I was playing side-by-side seasons of High Heat and ASB last year (using the zone system), and the stats were very similar. If anything, ASB's were closer to what was going on in the actual season.

As far as hit location, I wasn't tracking whether more hits went to centerfield or whatever. I remember hits to left, right, down the line, fouls, etc., but I don't remember how many went to where. Usually I was just happy to get a hit, regardless of where it went. "Hit location variety" certainly never jumped out at me as a serious interface flaw. The interface felt great, rewarded me for putting a good swing on the ball, and punished me if I didn't.

You see though, I don't see how being able to aim a cursor and hit the ball generally where ever you want is much better. This was my problem with ASB. I could gap balls at will. For me ASB is a decent hitting/pitching mechanic away from being my game of choice.

BK, I agree to an extent. In ASB The cursor forces you to put "bat to ball" which is uber realistic, but the result of contact wasn't calculated correctly. Not enough hit variety. The concept is good but the implementation of the results from contact needed work. In MVP, the batting concept is basic and uninspired, but it's implemented, executed and marketed extremely well. Thats a hallmark of EA.

To answer your question, I stared on PRO and averaged about 11-12 hits per game. I moved it up to Superstar, and because the timing is less forgiving, I got alot less hits. On Supertar (without moving the stick) I would only average 6 or 7 hits and the CPU was KILLING my pitching.(This pitching interface is a gift from above) I have since moved back down to Pro and I'm learning to master the actual directional functions with good results. I'll tinker with the sliders to find a good balance. The timing comes a little easier to ASB vets, I think, beacuse were used to light speed ASB pitches. I don't have ANY beef with the hitting system, or anything about MVP besides a few (completely expected, so non-dissapointing) hiccups. I just like ASB better*
