    Re: Ideas for improving gameplay

Well, I have already posted these things I do to make the game play better for me..but here they are again

    1. I reduce the outfielders RANGE...C is the highest I have given anyone(Andruw Jones..etc.) and mostly C- and D+
    2. Reduce the ARM STRENGTH of the outfielders by at least 1 1/2 letter grade.
This does a few things...it allows for more balls to drop for hits(in front of the outfielders) and it also allows baserunners to take second base on balls hit off the walls and into the gaps. I HARDLY EVER see a ball hit off the wall for a single anymore. With these reductions....I also see more guys scoring from second on a single.

I have been tinkering with lowering the arm ratings of catchers to allow for more steals. I'm still working on this one.

and finally, I have increased all starting pitchers stamina(regardless of which roster or who they are) to A+ or A. I get the occasional complete game, but at least now pitchers are going into the seventh inning of good games. The still get yanked if necessary.
Long relievers are getting B+ or A stamina
    MR are getting B-, B or B+
and closers are getting C+ or B-....these may sound high, but they really are not....especially if you use any generated counts.

Thanks Knight. What about outfielders with great arms like Ichiro and Vlad? What do you recommend for them?

This is good stuff. I didn't think about arm strength. I'm in my spring training. I'll try that.

Also, I know it's a defensive thing, but increasing fielders speed also increases their base running speed???

If so, increase the speed, decrease the range (like Knight said) and I'm wondering if those long singles off the wall will turn into doubles?

Ed, perhaps you could leave those guys alone, but take a look at some of the arm ratings, speed, range, etc. A lot of the outfielders have A, A- range. That's why they get to almost everything.

Take a look at some of the running speeds. D, D-. I wonder if that's why Ramon Hernandez never tries to tag up on a fly ball to the outfield? There appears to be a huge difference, huge, between the ratings of A and D. Maybe it just needs to be leveled out a bit.

Are you guys just editing your team, or all the players?

                              Ed,

Right now I'm editing other teams, leaving mine alone for the time, but I think there's something to this. I think it would only take editing outfielders and looking at some of your slowest runners on your teams and editing them.

I have no idea how this would effect stats in long franchise modes, but I only play single seasons. Would the increased speed mean more steals for all teams? I don't know, but anything is worth a try to take care of some of the base running issues.

By the way, I'm STILL having problems running myself with the L trigger and buttons. I've got it down where I hit the lettered button FIRST, then the L trigger, but it seems the runner following STILL advances.
