    Re: Ideas for improving gameplay

    Ed,

Right now I'm editing other teams, leaving mine alone for the time, but I think there's something to this. I think it would only take editing outfielders and looking at some of your slowest runners on your teams and editing them.

I have no idea how this would effect stats in long franchise modes, but I only play single seasons. Would the increased speed mean more steals for all teams? I don't know, but anything is worth a try to take care of some of the base running issues.

By the way, I'm STILL having problems running myself with the L trigger and buttons. I've got it down where I hit the lettered button FIRST, then the L trigger, but it seems the runner following STILL advances.

I have not tried the new running system. I got so used to it last year, I just stick to classic .

Thanks for the answers. I am curious about the results .

            Re: Ideas for improving gameplay

O.K., liking what I see here.

I played KC (me SD). I changed all KC players speed to B+ (if they were already greater than that I left it that way)
Changed Range to C (unless they were worse), changed all arm strength to C (unless they were worse).

Played on AllStar, auto field (so that I wouldn't mess test up with my awful fielding).

First inning for KC. (note: I grooved ALL fastballs down the middle).

Double down the first base line.

Single down the left field line (all the way to the wall), but the runner scored.

A double hit into left center, fielded by left fielder, runner to third. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. I was surprised to see the runner go to second on this one.

Sharp single to left center. Runner on second held (could have been caught as it was a low liner). Runner on third scored.

High fly ball to right field, near line. Runner tagged from second to third.

Walked a batter intentionally to put runners on 1st and 3rd (remember experimenting here).

Now this was nice. Ball driven down the right field line and BOTH RUNNERS SCORED. The batter, however, held at first. Runner stole second.

            Inning ended.

I will keep trying, but would have to say it works. I was amazed at how many fielders have A, A- range (like the big kid Harvey for KC), and others.

There has got to be a happy medium here someplace. Perhaps just taking the worst runners, those with D, D-, D+ will help and leave the rest alone. I do think that cutting down on the outfielders range and arm do help.

            More later.

Thanks Jim. if this all pans out maybe we can convince acclaim to make some of these changes during one of the roster updates.

                        Ed,

If you look at some of the player ratings you'll see some strange stuff. Buchanan, for the Padres, I think he had an "A" RANGE rating. That seems a little high for the big guy.

Many players with D, D- speed. That might be true in real life, but it certainly isn't computing well with the baserunning in this game. I'll keep fartin' around with it.

Ed, try it out. Before you play a game make the changes. Play the game and see, you don't have to save it. The ratings will revert once you back out and don't save.
