    Beta MLB Slugfest: Loaded Impressions

I've noticed some nice little things and a few bugs. This is a Beta and I hope to get a more complete version, but this is what I have seen so far.

I've seen a ball hit up the middle hit the second base bag and bounce off to the left. It was pretty cool to see. I've only seen it once.

There is no behind the pitcher cam, at least not that I saw. You change the camera by hitting your "back" button. I believe there are 4 or 5 different views. A couple from an angled view and a few basic behind the batter views. Nothing too special.

I hear it's going to be 720p, but my copy definitely is not. Hope it makes it in tho.

There is a cool ticker in franchise mode when you pause the game. It shows league leaders, division leaders, etc.

I've noticed the AI baserunning is suspect. Sometimes they'll stretch a double, but a lot of times they sit at first base on a sure double. Hitting a single w/ a man on second doesn't always score a run for them either.

A couple times I've been safe at 1st when I was clearly out by a long shot.

Diving and jumping is completely unrealistic on any level, I thought it would be toned down in "MLB" mode, but it's not.

The batter walkups only show the average, it doesn't show HR's, RBI's, etc.

When playing the "MLB" level, you still see a lot of animations from the players that you'd see in a regular slugfest level game. You just don't see the fire, sparks, etc. The scoring is down as well, but you'll see beanballs w/ unrealistic/funny results and you can actually still punch in "MLB" mode and knock someone off the basepads. I've done it once, not sure if it can be done a lot or a little, as I didn't try it very often. Just wanted to see if it worked.

When the announcers comment on "Bonds", they say something like, "Who is this guy?", "Whoever this guy is", "Whats his name is up to bat". The announcers are definitely funny as hell.

So, basically if you were hoping Slugfest "MLB" mode was going to be realistic, it's not. I mean I'm having fun w/ it. If you liked the original Slugfest type games, you'll like this as well, I'm just letting the "Sim" guys know it's not going to be there cup of tea.

Stats at the end of the season look real good tho. I didn't notice any trades when simming or any injured players.

If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. Remember, this is a Beta version, I'm sure some things will be worked out before release.

Did you take a look at how well the Baseball Mogul engine was implemented? Also do the pitches move realistically, and how many pitches are there? Oh and how do you pitch.. is it point and click? Does it relate to ESPN, MLB, or High Heat? Thanks.

Well, the stat engine seems to be very solid so far. I haven't seen any trades and I can't figure out how to see if the pitcher is tiring or not, besides seeing his fastball go from 97 to 91. I see no fatigue bars.

Pitches move somewhat realistically, but I'd give it a 6 out of 10 in terms of realism on pitches. Some look great, while others are still over the top.

You select your pitch, then you hit "A" for strike, "B" for ball, "Y" for bean and something else. Once you hit the button, you select the location of the pitch. Once you select the location, you hit the "A" button to throw a strike to that location or "B" to throw to that location for a ball. Sort of confusing, but I'll throw up some movie clips when I get a chance. One thing that is cool and reminds me of high heat, when you want to pitch a strike, you will throw the occasional ball. There is a meter that goes around during the windup, sort of like MVP Baseball, there is a baseball that you have to line up to throw the accurate pitch. If you miss that baseball, you're sure to throw a ball or even hit the batter.

          Hope that makes sense.

You can't skip through some of the cut scenes. It can take anywhere from 25 to 45 mins. to complete a game. Not too bad, but I wish you could stop ALL cut scenes, but some of them you have to watch.
