You can't skip through some of the cut scenes. It can take anywhere from 25 to 45 mins. to complete a game. Not too bad, but I wish you could stop ALL cut scenes, but some of them you have to watch.

Re: Beta MLB Slugfest: Loaded Impressions

There is something about this game that really appeals to me. I am about 95% sure that I am going to pre-order. I just love the in-game sounds at the ballpark. They are absolutely dead-on with how they capture the organ music, which, to me, is one of the most enjoyable things about watching a major league baseball game (how the organ flows with the game and gets you pumped up when your team is either doing well or has a chance for a big hit or a key out). WSB, ASB and MLB are all pretty disappointing in this regard. Their sterile atmospheres makes playing games a chore - rather than something enjoyable.

So - with that lengthy preamble - I guess my overall question is - have you played through a few games on more realistic settings nad found them to at least resemble a major league baseball game? With the enjoyable organ music and Baseball Mogul, I could see myself at least starting a dynasty with this game if games are at least somewhat realistic (especially since I just haven't been able to get into MVP, MLB, ASB or MLB - and I tried playing franchises on all 4). So -

. Can runners steal and advance at a reasonable rate, or do all of the fielders have super arms?

. How is the fielding in the game? Is it all diving catches and very few routine plays (and thus, way too many cheap hits)?

. Is there any CPU logic in terms of bringing in relievers? I'm not expecting high level righty versus lefty switches - how about just save situations or bringing someone in when a starter's arm is dead

. Does there seem to be any hit variety in the game, or is it all line drives and deep fly balls?

. What does the turbo do in the game - is it just an extra burst of effort when a fielder is trying to make a play or when a runner is trying to hustle to a base, or does it give players annoying superhuman performances?

Alright - I'll stop asking such specific questions, but I think you see what I'm driving at....

Thanks for the impressions Steve! Like I said, I will probably take the walk down the street on Monday and preorder....

There is organ music and it comes in and out at times, nothing like a real MLB game, IMO. I'd say there is more in this game than the others tho. IMO, it's not very realistic. Super human dives, jumps and pitchers going yard twice a game (I've seen that twice, one measured at 496 ft.)

I mean, I'm trying to make it realistic, but there are no sliders for super jumping, super diving, etc. So you are left the same sort of Slugfest, only without the "On Fire" etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast w/ the game, I love getting away from the realism from other games and sit back and play this one for pure fun. I've only held the CPU to under 10 hits twice and I've played over 15 games. I've been shutdown a few times on the hardest level. I tried "Rookie" and was killing the AI. I upped it to the hardest difficulty and it just seems like the fielders move quicker all the time. Something that would have been a gapper in "Rookie" mode, is caught on "All Star" level. Seems you hit a lot of shots "On the nose" w/ not many dribblers or bloopers every happening, although I have seen very few. It seems when you hit it "on the nose" on the higher difficulties, it's right to the fielder, but I might be looking to much into it.

Runners can steal, I haven't figured out how to take a bigger lead. I haven't seen the AI attempt a steal in ANY game so far. Outfielders do have some cannons, but there are plenty of off line throws.

You'll see a few bloopers(not many), but mostly you'll see rockets off the bats, grounders and pops. Like I said earlier, it seems like the higher the difficulty, the faster the AI players get to the ball.

There isn't much logic from the CPU. They will hit w/ the pitcher down 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth. Closers come in, but it doesn't seem like they come in very often at all. They will bring in a reliever if the starter is getting shelled.

Looks like a lot of hard grounders and pops so far. Hardly ever see a dribbler.

I don't think turbo works when using "MLB" mode. I've hit it to see if it does anything and unless I'm doing it wrong, it seems like it does nothing. I'm sure it's super strength when playing "Slugfest" mode.

Really tho, I'm having fun w/ the game. I'm dissappointed that you can't make it more realistic w/ more sliders, but I know I'll have fun w/ it. It's more of a party game w/ friends. I know I'll be joining some XBL tournies w/ this game as well.

One thing I noticed about the previous Slugfests, that really made me stop playing, was how if you want your opponent to hit a grounder, just pitch it low, and if you want him to hit a pop-ups, just pitch it high.

                  Did loaded fix this?

                  Thanks

I will definitely wait to hear impressions after the game is out before deciding on this one. It might just turn out to be a rental for me.

Not trying to interject here at all, just wanted to comment that I played the OXM demo and the commentary is laugh out loud funny. May not be news to folks who have played it in years past, but I was pleasently surprised by how it cracked me up.
