    Re: OOTP

I love the OOTP series , but for onine leagues only. I am in 3 leagues right now. One league we are about to start year 1979. Pretty cool playing with old players that I watched growing up. I just drafted Steve Sax in the amateur draft and he is in A ball.

OOTP is a great way to feed your managerial fix. What I love about it is how customizable it is. I usually just make up my own leagues from scratch and create my own baseball universe complete with its own legendary players and records.

I can't wait to see what the new OOTP is like. From the screenshots and info I've seen, it looks like it'll be phenomenal!

I'm with priceless. I have OOTP on my notebook, so I can take my fictional Universal Baseball Association with me anytime. It is one of the very few sports games I own that I play year round.

I love the in-depth history-making scenarios we can create. My UBA started in 1931 and just wrapped up its 46th season. But we are entering into our first off-season with free agency, so things have slowed down considerably. I refuse to let some guy go from $100,000 a year to over 12 million, so I am going into each team's roster every few days during the free agent signing period and adjusting salaries downward to be more realistic for a mid-1970s timeline. No one back then had $12 million contracts, let alone $12 mill for one season! I wish the game could take things like that into account, and I also think that free agency should be a separate option within the financial system. Baseball had ticket prices, concessions, broadcasting, etc. before free agency took hold.

Wow, 46 years ... that is incredible. I take it you don't play each and every one of you team's games. I sim a lot of mine, but play out the big games, like late in the season if I'm still in the race.

The new OOTP coming out this fall sounds pretty awesome. It sounds like you'll be able to have an unlimited amount of teams in your fictional league(s) .. however much your computer can handle!

Ive been playing OOTP since version 2. Best sim game out there. That game is pretty much why I dont mess with owner mode in MVP, since any financial type stuff I want to do is more than covered in OOTP. I actually use it more for "what-if" historical replays (normally use version 4 for this since i use a career based database and the new player progression algorithims dont really mean much to me. I use the newer version for all fictional leagues though)

No, I don't play out each game. I am like you, simming a lot thru the early parts of the season, then slowing things down as the pennant races heat up (and believe me, they do get hot--I have had more than a dozen seasons end up in a tie after 154-162 games!).

And prior to OOTP, my UBA was actually up to its 67th year, but a lot of it had been backfilled to create a pseudo history. When I got OOTP 3, I decided to start the association from scratch, so I could actually play out the careers of my early pioneer greats, like Fancy Dan Casey, Tyonus Highland, Jacob Mudrock and Leo Graham.

It was fun watching these greats, many of whom lived up to their previous fame, while a few fizzled and died (most notable was Newcomb Fasco, my pre-OOTP winningest LHP in history, but in just his second season tore his rotator cuff and was finished). Graham did even better than my pre-OOTP league, establishing what might be the most untouchable record in my entire UBA: TWELVE no-hitters!

I started off controlling no teams, then took the reins of the Portland Pioneers when Brock Rutherford came on the scene, leading to the Pioneers' dynasty of the 50's. Prior to Rutherford's entry, the rival Bridegrooms had won 9 of the first 18 Diamond King Championships. But from Brock the Great's rookie year in '49, the Pioneers won 10 of 13 DKCs, including a UBA record 8 straight from 1954-61. Since divisional play started in '55, the Pioneers have taken the Union League West 19 times in 22 years. Rutherford stepped down years ago (as the #2 winningest pitcher behind Dan Casey), but the dynasty lives on.

I have also taken control of the Columbus Spiders, who have the core of what could be the next UBA dynasty, including SS Binkie Boobiefelter, C Owen McCoskey, LF Alexander "Lurch" Furgeson and 1B Henry Rawlings Clout.

I love EA's MVP 2005, but it has zero room for the creativity, imagination and open-ended freedom that OOTP offers.

Binkie Boobiefelter??? Got to love some of the names in OOTP!

A guy with 12 no-hitters is amazing. I remember one of my leagues, the same pitcher won the Cy Young award 7 years in a row or something. That was something else! I love how you basically invent your own baseball history with this game.

I am managing Toronto and we beat out the tough Cleveland team to capture the AL East on the last weekend of the season .. in a season-ending series against the Indians! I just beat Texas in the ALCS in seven games, coming back from an 8-4 deficit in game seven to win the series. One of my starting pitchers threw TEN no-hit innings (!) in the series but I had to take him out, I think I pinch hit for him in the 11th. We got a run in the top of the 11th and my closer came in, gave up a hit but we hung on for the win. So right now we're in the WS against St. Louis.

I plan on adding a couple expansion teams down the road a ways, not sure how I'll go about doing that though. Right now I have 2 six team divisions in each league.
