Re: Whats soo great about INSIDE EDGE?.
The "big deal" about the Inside Edge is the unprecedented realism that it will bring to baseball gaming. Inside Edge is a real life service that major league teams use to scout players. It will give pitchers and hitters their real life tendencies. What type, how and where they pitch the ball all based on situations ie. an up and in fastball 60% of the time in a 2-1 count to a lefty. This will truly be innovational to the SIM gamer.
But again, I reiterate, this will mean nothing if the game is "broken" out of the box. We can only hope that all the major flaws that made this game nearly unplayable to many in last years game have been fixed. If the bugs have been addressed, then to the Sim gamer this could be the game we have been waiting for since probably High Heat.OS Longtime Lurker - Extremely occasional OS Poster

Wouldnt ZONE hitting info give you the same effect?, like one part of the zone would be RED, so you know you shouldnt pitch there all the time.
I played all games last year and 2K5 was by far the most ARCADISH, i think the only way to make this game even feel sim is to fire kush and get the NFL/NBA 2K guys at VC to remake a new game engine from the ground up.Comment

Zone hitting doesnt take into account pitchers and their strengths. It only accounts for hitters strengths and even then it doesnt account for where they will hit the ball. Inside edge will give you pitchers strengths (finally!) and play more of a matchup type ball at least in theory. Its like Alex Cora should avoid being pitched in his red zone cause he will hit the ball hard somewhere when in real life, he probably just makes contact more in that zone more not mash it somewhere like he would just cause his zone is red and we push up on the stick. Thats not an indictment of all on MVP cause I absolutely loved that game but Inside Edge is supposed to be able to differentiate just that.OS Longtime Lurker - Extremely occasional OS Poster

Re: Whats soo great about INSIDE EDGE?.
Agree with the last poster in that if the game doesn't play better...then who cares about inside edge.
But.....If the game plays well, then this aspect is HUGE for me. It ads a whole different dimension to the game. In baseball games of the past, it didn't really matter how you scouted the opposing pitchers or batters. In real life however, this is a massive part of any player's/team's success. While I loved MVP last year, there were far too many times where I saw very strange pitch selections in strange counts, etc...Hopefully inside edge makes this part of the game more realistic.Comment

Re: Whats soo great about INSIDE EDGE?.
I'm kind of excited about the Inside Edge being added. Granted, the gameplay must be tight. The bugs that wrecked last years title need to go. But, think of how IE can change this game. All players will have this data running their AI routines; regardless of whether you purchase that data or not. The players should play to their tendencies. This is better than VIP, which just tracks team/coach and human player tendencies. Now if the game itself is bug free and has good basic gameplay.....Note to Tiburon Marketing:
A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

I don’t see that happening though. I believe the ridiculously arcade game play – fielder’s Spiderman-like wall-climbing and 20-foot horizontal dives, along with the super-steroid HR derby hitting game – is something they’re intentionally programming into game, believing game play of that sort is something that is appealing to and will attract casual (the majority of) gamers.Comment

I’m guessing all those pitch charts and hit charts will mean little once the action starts, and that every batter’s still going to be belting tons of fly balls and homeruns, and every pitcher’s still going to be programmed with pin-point control and nothing resembling real and actual pitch-selection strategy… just like last year’s game.Last edited by baa7; 01-16-2006, 10:37 PM.Comment

Re: Whats soo great about INSIDE EDGE?.
I agree with post. They add all of these useless features and continue to give
us 2nd rate gameplay. This game as much as I want to like it is years behind
where baseball video games should be. MVP blows this game out of the water
and we all should drill the developers about gameplay issues.Comment

I once worked for an organization that implemented an all-new way of working together, in order to be more inclusive. Instead of the directors making all the decisions, the workers were asked to team up together in small, decision-making groups. And guess what? The moment our little group made our first decision together, we told we couldn’t implement our ideas until they were first approved by the directors. Like chocolate sauce on a turd…
No, I can’t believe this or that all-new anything is going to make a dot of difference to the current MLB series. It’s a horrible mess of a game that needs to be re-programmed from the ground up. I popped 2K4 into the Xbox today and played it for an hour. I was AMAZED at game play compared to 2K5 – like comparing Splinter Cell to Stolen, or Half-Life 2 to Serious Sam. One’s a very tight video baseball game, and the other’s a laughable arcade imitation and child’s toy.Comment

They're whole new movement system will be revolutionary to the series. Momentum and collisions is a terrific start, followed by good enough tweaks to the rest of the animations to make the game, gameplay-wise, actually playable (by your standards).
I won't believe this feature will be broken. Like I've said before... I've never claimed one of 2K's baseball games to be "promising" like I do with this one. I think that they're getting a horrible rep for no reason at all. Give them a chance and a fair evaluation after PLAYING the game, then come back and talk about what's broken and what's not.
And no... the oxymoron is actually in his post, and not in the sense that we ever did/didn't consider this game 'sim'.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Two weeks after MLB 2K5 was released, there were maybe five people still coming to these boards who hadn’t abandoned the game along with everyone else in North America. In other words, the game was unplayable by almost everyone’s standards. And it was only playable for me because I spent three months editing player ratings.
A horrible rep for no reason at all? Truth is I don’t believe you actually believe that statement yourself. No, a very deserved rep, given they (twice) chose to release a steaming pile of dung and promote it as a video baseball game.Comment
