Re: POTD 2/14/06
Wow... nothing like telling a baseball person they're not "sim" in order to get a rise out of them. For the hundredth time, Blzer: all the guy did was post his opinion. GET OFF PEOPLE'S BACKS.
Bump.
I am a 17 year old kid that's fed up with [not opinions, but] an opinion that I may disagree with
You're fed up with opinions that you disagree with? Really, come on, use some tact, and as baa7 says give people a break. I really don't think people care that you are fed up because you don't agree with them. A little less of the "I" word would go a long ways.
Have you taken the shrink wrap off this game yet? Neither have I, so it's all opinions.Comment

Originally posted by ErraticDude. Where did I say you weren't sim. Plus, read what I wrote.. I don't run a franchise, and look at what you wrote. " just look at the bugs that it has with franchise mode and the pass ball... " COME ON MAN... Read what I right... 2k5 was for me because I play online or against real people. That stuff wasn't a problem for me. The animations don't bother me, because I've played older games with worse ones, but they have had solid gameplay mechanics... Animations have no affect on gameplay... You said they were smooth. I don't care, if I don't like the hitting system or fielding meters then I don't care if it looks like a seamless movie because their core gameplay isn't what I'm about... It's like a lot of people here were born just when this gen came out or something... I still play NES games, (and I'm only 20, so I don't know where this graphics craze came from) because they were good games... Imagine that, playing a game for it's content and core, instead of it's graphics and looks....
dude i love high heat baseball and you cant have worst graphics and animations for that game.. but it was a real sim.. mlb2k is not a sim... not when robbing home runs and diving catches were easy with any player.. you tell me what is sim about mlb2k.... and you are wrong if you say that animations dont tie in to what makes gameplay.... if you have crappy animations the game feels sluggish and weak... mvp is all sim and with the great animations it just feels right... i was tired of getting a grounder to jeter at short and i run towards the ball and he scoops it up and throws like a girl across the field.. in mvp the same play happens but with the sweet animations tying into the throw it makes the game that much more fun... so how do you explain that mlb2k is more of a sim then mvp....how does it reflect baseball more then mvpComment

Plus I never claimed 2k5 was perfect. The diving catches and hr robs bugged me but that was all that bugged me... I am really glad that also 2k6 will have to aim where the ball starts instead of ends this year. Will make online and rl games better... So maybe franchise was bugged, maybe there was a passed ball glitch. I didn't experience any of it, because I am not into that stuff.Last edited by Erratic; 02-15-2006, 11:06 AM.Comment

If you really think those features you listed make you more hardcore sim than me than.......oh good Lord what's the point? Have fun with MLB 2k5....er I mean 2k6.
What is Pure Movement System anyway? Sounds like a fancy marketing term to me. Because those batting swings are the furthest thing from pure movement.Comment

Was that the past ball glitch? I hope not, since some reported it fixed for the WSE.
Now for the Biggies: (please, baa, blzr, jim...help me w/these)
On close play at first, runner (Cora) was safe but turned towards second base. Why don't they fix this? If you beat out a throw you have to turn towards the dugout, b/c turning towards 2nd base makes you still in play and you can be tagged out. That's still the rule, right?!!!!! Gee whiz!
On Ortiz's hit, he runs and crosses 1st base as if he beat out a close play at first. What is up with that? Look at him in the little box at the bottom of the screen during his hit. When have you ever seen a guy get a hit to left center and not round first, much less run through the bag. Why is he running through the first base bag on a hit to left center?!??? This is inexcusable!
I can't even take the time to comment on videos 2 and 3 tonight.
Note: Exact same "Biggies" were in 2k5!!
Note: Biggie = overt lack of attention to obvious details
Inkcil, on the Cora play, as long as you don't go pass the baseline into the field of play you are alright. But I totally agree, most players turn towards the dugout & not towards the field of play
As for the Ortiz hit. You are correct. I still can't believe they haven't fix that. The only thing I can think of is maybe the AUTO-ROUND BASE was OFF during the time the video was shot.
I'm not sure what people are actually looking for in this title that EVERYONE is basically throwing this game under a truck, before the game hit's the street. I understand some people's frustrations especially xbox owners with this being the only MLB title on that system. It seems like everyone was expecting a totally re-vamped game from the bottom-up. We'll that's not happening because that process was started with last years title. As for my MVP bethren, I understand your frustration. I have felt this way for the last year, with no NFL 2K Football.
I personally will be purchasing the 360 version, because I basically DONE with this GEN, except for my leagues in NFL 2K5. Hopefully we will see some improvements on the 360 version.Comment

I just gonna stay my opinion on these videos. I like the commentary. The bat hitting the ball sounds like I just broke a stick over my knee. I am just not that impressed with this game at all. I think I might just have to "wait till next year"(ha).Favorite Teams

MLB- Chicago Cubs

Yeah, I hate the sound of the bat. I was going to post that right after viewing the movies."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

The batter-runner must start an attempt to go to second. The direction he turns, his position with the baseline, any other old wives' tale you can think of... they don't exist. They're as mythical as unicorns, leprechauns, and "hands are part of the bat".
It's long been taught to pro umpires that an attempt, for this rule, is one step towards second, with any motion of the other leg then starting in the same direction. If somehow, perhaps just to fake a distraction, the batter-runner just takes that first step without moving the other leg in such a manner, he can still stroll safely back to first.Comment

Re: POTD 2/14/06
Finally saw the clips and got some comments on it.
1) The presentation of the game is basically the same as last years except the replays. I think this is good because the presentation was MLB 2k5 strongest points.
2) Some of the throwing animations are still bad, the infield throwing are the worst IMO. When Loretta popped to 2nd, Cano threw a horrendous throw to first that went down. And when Ortiz (which his stance is bad) hit it to left, Matsui threw a bad throw to second that went down also. However, when Rameriz hit it to first and Giambi made the error, Giambi got up and his throwing animation was perfect. And when Cora got the grounder from Damon he threw it good. So I still don't know if the animations are really improved or not. I'm guessing that the throwing animations could be bad if you rush your throws and better if you don't.
3) the error to Giambi looked weird to me. The ball moved way too much for a little chipper by ramirez and the ball went backwards when giambi dived for it when it should've moved forward.
4) When Lowell hit the 3-run homer, the PA announced Varitek before the the cutscene was over.
5) I didn't like all the swinging on 0-0. If the game is using Inside Edge than the batters should behave like their stats would. For example, Ortiz swung on 0-0 when he's usually waiting on he can handle.
6) A-rod homer should've been a hit to left center of left field because he was obviously pulling the ball. Why did it tail to the right? The wind was out to center at 16mph.
7) It was 20F degrees at Fenway park but the cutscenes showed the fans with short sleeves shirts and shorts.
Other than that, it looked alright. Yeah the batting swings are bad and some animations are bad also, but if the glitches are fixed and someone can create good sliders to make it play real than it could be a good game.Comment

Exactly. It's not so bad that good gameplay won't fix it.Comment

Re: POTD 2/14/06
Wow. I just read through 9 pages of posts about the same stuff over and over and again. It's certainly not perfect, but if the gameplay is there then I'm going to be happy.
I've also noticed that it's safe to post negative comments about the game during school hours. But oh boy, wait 'til recess.Comment

Re: POTD 2/14/06
I like how the edge percentages changes for each situation, be it 2 on, 1 out, and 1 strike. The location changes from player to player, Just a quick overview from watching Randy Johnson pitching. I think thats pretty cool.
Watch the Manny Sequence. Inside Edge has Randy throwing A slider at 30 some odd percent, a fast ball at 30 some odd percent and a 2seamFB at 14%. This is pitch #1 and he throws a 2seamFB runners on 1st and 2nd, pass ball ensues. Pitch 2, runners on 2nd and 3rd Inside Edge Slider/Fast ball 30 some odd % 2seam drops to 13%, he throws a FB down and in and gets hit.
Pretty good facsimile of Randy Johnson if you ask me.Last edited by backbreaker; 02-15-2006, 02:48 PM.Comment
