Xbox owners : WSB should be all you need.

I know this game is coming out for other systems this year, and I also know that HH, ASB and the revamped Triple Play (MVP) is also being released. But since MVP is a first year effort I think we can dismiss it from the competion.

HH is a great game for the PS2, can it be brought over and compete with WSB visually remains to be seen, but I doubt it. ASB is so so in my opinion, put it next to WSB and it looks like a PS2 game, which it not bad, but Acclaim made it for the PS2 first so the Xbox version is essentially a port.

Now comes WSB, made specifically for the Xbox last year, and with a year to tweek the bugs (wall catch, double play anim., etc.) this should be the game that all Xbox owners should buy.

This post may seem shallow because the only comparisons I made were referencing graphics. Yes, I am a bit of a graphics whore, but WSB's gameplay in my opinion was equal to if not better than HH. And that is saying a lot. So if WSB and HH are comparable gameplay-wise, why not choose the better looking and sounding of the two. WSB.

I agree with you on most of your points. I do feel that WSB might be the game to go with this year. I'm getting High Heat as well as WSB mainly because its out early, and its cheap (read my earlier post about gamestop.com offer). I've had every High Heat product since its inception and still feel that its a strong product.

If they improved the speed of the game of ASB, I might pick up that one too (Slow pitcher / batter interface, too long in between pitches for my taste).

No XBL support just weights alot to me. Specially head to head challenges.
So much, that I'm going to try All-Star Baseball this year if they include that option. If not, I'll no doubt be giving WSB a shot since I think last years version was good but very flawed.

I had WSB for xbox last year, and i realy thought it was one of the better baseball games, if not the best, but i think that the addition of a power swing to this years, was a stupid, stupid mistake. the hitting with last years in my opinion was almost flawless, but to add a power swing? thats just ridiculous, its gonna taint the hitting. So I guess we will have to wait and see.

Also, to rule out MVP is kindof jumping the gun, EA knows what theyre doing, and so far theyre game is the most intriguing, i would keep an eye on this one.

I was also a WSB freak last year but the lack of a competitive computer really turned me off plus the inception on the power swing this year is a HUGE turnoff. Who wants to alternate between power swing and contact swing? And they already said it is close to impossible to hit a homerun using contact. So, in other words, Derek Jeter will hit .350 with 0 homers and 12 RBI's. That's fantastic! With the one-button swinging, you get realistic results as well as people like Jeter hitting realistic amounts of homeruns. Also, HH had the gameplay down last year. The computer was actually competitive and made realistic plays. I am going to have to stay with HH because gameplay is much more important to me than graphics and WSB is NOT CLOSE (please get this straight) to HH in terms of gameplay.

You ask someone what makes the gameplay in High Heat so good. They talk about the realistic results and how the AI plays like it should. They may also mention how they are afraid of fielding and baserunning, because it's too hard and they'll mess up the stats and do unrealistic things if they try to control it.

We can conclude then, then good gameplay is directly proportional to how much control you take away from the user. The ideal game is one that the user simply watches; good gameplay is not allowing the user to play the game at all, because AI can always be programmed to behave more realistically than the user.

I don't really agree with that point of view. I think it's like saying a fluid mechanics simulator has better gameplay than Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer.
