7.9 is way too generous if you ask me...

Re: IGN Review up, game gets a 7.9

I'd give it a low 8 score. It's much better than last year, but that's not really saying much as I thought last year deserved a score below 5. I am enjoying the game for the bit that I played it so that's good, but low 8's seems right to me.

My reasoning is that the fielding camera isn't very good, the fielding is a little bit sluggish at times and while I haven't seen this personally, I'm concerned about the rumors that the CPU destroys their lineup during a season (ie: Thome will play SS and bat leadoff).

I think around 8.2-8.6, around that. Horrible review.

I havent played the game yet but its pointless to be caught up in a number

The reasons for the low score were given such as odd base running and the poor framerate on the ps3 version

Again I havent played it yet but its not like they just slapped a score on there and called it a day

No the ps3 version does have self shadowing and it does look awfully nice. I assume the 360 looks a little better, but not by much. I have to agree this game, even with its flaws deserves a nice 8.2-8.5. All I know is im having an awful lot of fun with it, offline and on.

well according to ign, 7.9 means 'good'. which from my impression on the boards everyone thinks this game is good...not great, but good.

Tinkering with the sliders really allows you to change how realistic the game plays. It may an 8.1 out of the box but after spending some time with it I'd put it at an 8.6.

Ironic that this game is getting all these low scores. I need to really read the thoughts of the impressions of people on here and other sites because something is sounding fishy.

                    Dang.

The only thing that worries me at this point is as mjb2124 said, CPU managing in franchise play. And only fix for that is turning off injuries/trades which takes out the chise out of franchise.

                      Ahhhh, a fellow ASB fanatic....

ASB atmosphere was King. Until now, only The Show has come close to ASB's feel of being on the field (little things like the catcher throwing the ball back), but while 2k7 has awesome grafx and presentation, the cartoony colors and slight stiffness hurt it a little, IMO. Of course the overall next-gen visuals are a slam dunk over last, but ASB had a photo-realistic look that I still prefer over 2K's less overly colorful looks.

I always liked ASB's icon hitting, but 2k7's batting is pretty good as well with the swing stick, which is very rewarding. There is also a icon-ish "batters eye" (which I recommended and named in an ASB wishlist thread over 3 years ago...where is my check, dammit!!) that serves as the pitch-guess interface.

Pitching is WAAAY better on 2K7. No other way to put it.

Fielding-wise ASB's behind the fielder view was hit-or-miss but at least you could change it. 2K7 has a really crappy feilding view that can't be changed. Not a gamekiller, but very annoying.

The franchise mode is nowhere near as in-depth, but thankfully, the roster editing mechanics aren't as frustrating as ASB's were.

ASB's extras still blow 2k7's out of the water like old-time stadiums and stadium tours..and most impotantly, the sorely missed Expansion mode. Even the pick-up game was pretty cool in ASB, and has no peer on 2K.

Overall, I think the gameplay is a tad tighter in 2k7 than ASB's. Being able to see the ball make contact with the bat, the swing stick, and the pitching are all big advantages, along with next-gen grafx. I sure do miss ASB's old-school vibe though.

Im very happy with the game. I would give it an 8.4 My only problem is I think there are wayyy to many HR. I am on legend and there are a aweful lot of them. Im going to mess with the sliders tomorrow and see if it helps.... man I hope it does haha..Presentation is incredible. Replays innings later... superb!

That's what's always bothered me with the way these sites review non-EA Sports titles - they never seem willing to judge the game on their merits. Going back to the days when IGN famously scored NBA Live current gen as a 9 yet outright said it was no where near realistic ("but it's fun!", a review made fun of so much they edited it), to how they can score Madden next gen in the 8's (BOTH of them, the horrific '06 game, and the near featureless and boring '07 game), I hate how these "respected" sites can allow themselves to have such differing standards when judging the games.

I would agree MLB2K7 deserves a score in the low 8's - funny (in a sad way) that iGN couldn't bring itself to score the game at least an 8; by scoring it a 7.9 they can create that perception of the game being a C-level game, instead of a B-level game. Then you have 1UP referencing a "big yellow ugly circle" when talking about the pitching, which most of us agree is the best out there (their opinion: not innovative enough. huh?). I understand they're the primary outlet for media, but i'm sick of their practices

I really don't use IGN for reviewing because after they gave NBA 2k7 a 8.3 that basically said it all. I do agree if this was named EA MLB it would of gained a couple points just for having EA on it... EA must send them a ton of free stuff.

I don't either. It appears obvious that EA spends a lot of advertising dollars with IGN.
