    Too many HR's on All-Star (360)

Anyone else seeing a lot of homeruns? The reds had 9 on me on my opener, and I was hitting the mit. Again, even when a team doesn't hit many, they still hit far too many in ratio to their number of hits. Most of the runs scored in my games by both me and the CPU are off homers.

Gotta throw more balls out of the strike zone and hope they chase some... also try to nibble the corners more.

It seems like this game REALLY makes you pay for missing your timing on pitching. That's been my experience anyway. If I time my pitches right on the nose and you hear that little noise when you hit the A button, seems to me that the CPU won't have such an easy time putting a lot of ummph on the ball.

I've noticed this as well. I think this is partly controlled by the "CPU effectives mod" under AI Batting Options, which I currently have set at 85. If you don't hold the pitch button for long or if you miss-time your release, the CPU can pound the ball. I like it, it keeps you honest when pitching.

It also makes you think twice about trotting your starter out there for one more inning, as opposed to going to the bullpen. In the past, baseball video games didn't really ever make you pay for going with your starter for too long. This one does...in a huge way. I like it too.

Yup. I've got Maholm going right now against the Fish... He's pitching well, but fighting himself a little: 5IP, 4H, 6K, 86 pitches for 62% strikes and has allowed only one unearned run. I hate to take him out after only five, but he's in the 30s for stamina and I know one more inning could be real bad...

I like this too....was very refreshing in my game last night to see my pitch meter and subsequent accuracy on pitches taking a hit because my starter was getting tired.

So you guys aren't seeing as many homeruns as I am? I guess I just find that so curious. Are you holding down the pitch button until the controller shakes? I mean, I thought I was holding it long enough to make my pitch effective, but they're still hitting homeruns on things almost outside the strike zone. Up and in, low and away - doesn't matter. It's just frustrating, I guess, because I don't know what I'm doing wrong. This is early in the game, too, when Zambrano has a full tank. I can understand punishing bad pitches that are grooved, but like I said, we're talking *pitchers'* pitches being taken out of the park 6 or 7 times a game on average.

i picked the game up last night after having a few cocktails and playing pool, put the game in, chose the cubs, played against the Giants, and got ROCKED.

I think they hit something like 6 homeruns and had twenty hits, while scoring like 16 runs. It was brutal.

Yah I had that happen my first game, too. The Reds scored 19 runs and hit no fewer than 11 or 12 homeruns. That's my biggest concern. They seem to ground out, strike out, or hit a home run.

I was having the same problems last night playing as my beloved Dodgers against the Braves. By the 6th inning, Schmidt had given up 8 runs with 6 of them being of the HR variety. I finally got the hang of pitching and was getting perfect breaks, ya know, the one where you nail your spot and you get the completely white ball instead of the yellow circle around it. No matter where I was putting those pitches, I would get rocked. Painting corners was of little significance. 4 of those HRs I gave up where in the 1st and 2nd innings.

It's a bit frustrating since I'm not a slider proponent, but I may have to dabble with some sliders if this continues.

I've gotten rocked a few times on All Star but also had some good games, like yesterday I was playing as the Cardinals vs Philly, anyway its a good game on both sides with Wainwright going for me and Hamels going for Philly.

Wainwright was pretty worn out after 6 strong innings, only allowed one run and gave up 5 hits, so I went to the pen with a 5-1 lead (Hamels only gave up 2 runs, I hit the bullpen hard once they removed him) figuring I've got this thing locked up. So I bring in Josh Kinney for the 7th, he gives up one hit then retires the next 3 guys. 8th inning the Phillies have their lefties comin up so I bring in Tyler Johnson, he gets hit around winds up giving 2 runs back so its 5-3, I hit a solo shot with Pujols in the top of the 9th to give me a 3 run lead again and bring in Jason Isringhausen, and I was not on with him, I got the first guy out but then they strung together a little rally, 3 doubles in a row to make the game 6-5, I get the next batter out so 2 outs runner on 2nd I missed my timing by a little and the Phils crushed one to the track but Edmonds was able to haul it in to seal the victory. Great game!

I agree with everyone saying that if you miss by even a little bit the game will make you pay, you have to have your best stuff with every pitch or they'll take advantage.

You cant take any pitches off in this game. Also not listening to the catcher makes you pay big time.

Yeah in every other game i used to be fearless when my pitcher was tired, but now i see that this game will truly test that...I've been getting mollywhopped when i dont hit my spot...like real life
