Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
Almost makes me think the "lag" or delay is there to simulate the leg kick of a batter ? Its not noticable when using the swing stick because you have to manually pull back for the leg kick yourself. But maybe the classic mode sims this with a slight delay. Maybe its just perception. Because to me it feels 100% normal. Next time your playing look and see if the batters leg is moving instantaneously with the button push. It would only make sense that the leg would move before the bat. Maybe some of us just percieve this differently. Some see it as lag and some see it as a normal motion of batting.
I guess when Im playing I see the button push as the start of my batting motion. Not so much the exact milisecond the bat should start moving.Comment

I haven't really noticed any type of lag myself, but i have noticed for whatever reason it seems harder to bat with certain players than others. Maybe this is the reason why...Comment

If you have inside edge on the pitcher will pitch like their real life counterparts..Play with it off if you want to control how the pitcher is pitching..Or try using the inside edge reports on pitching....Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
I wasnt sure where else to put this so I figured here was as good a place as any since it pertains to "lag". Im in the middle of a series with Boston, every single time anyone gets on base it becomes near impossible to hit my mark when pitching, its gotten so bad that when I throw the ball it literally appears to be floating to the plate, no zip at all on it, has anyone else noticed this also? I had some weird occurances in Washington when playing the Nationals but this problem started in the series against Boston and never happened before so Im not sure if this is their way of making it tougher to pitch to them or not. On a side note, for god's sake they need to fix the damn composure settings, having one hitter get on base in the 7th with a 3 run lead should not lead to my pitcher losing his mind on the mound, especially when its Crisp at the plate, this part of the game drives me nuts nearly every game.Comment

[quote=Chitown1211;3054784]Pitch speed should be no higher than 50 IMO for realistic results. This way you can still read breaking balls and still whiff at the high heat .
70,80,100 is just rediculous. The balls have no break and move at light speed.
I played 2 games with PS @ 50 and here is my conclusion.
1. I was averaging 8-10 k's per game with it at 65 speed. At 50, I still struck out 10x each game. The only difference was that at 50, I was swinging and missing changeups and breaking balls. At 65, I was swinging and missing at fastballs.
Now the real difference, on 65, I averaged 6-8 walks per game. Unrealistic? yes, but so is striking out 10,11,12 times a game.
I was able to walk 6-8x because I work the count and get alot of hitters counts. Strikeouts are due to failure to make contact on pitches off the black. I layoff alot of pitches outside that catch the corner.
With pitch speed @ 50 or anything lower than 65, I stop walking because slower pitches appear to "hang" over the plate a split second longer thus making it very tempting to swing. Well unfortunately I miss rather than make bad contact. (A real issue with this game).
At 65, breaking balls and changeups give me the speed to layoff ones that "cross" the plate but end up as balls. At 50, they take longer to cross the plate and thus appear to be strikes. This is fine if you can make contact, I don't. SO I'm not willing to give up walks for strikeouts. I'm back to playing at 65.
IMHO, the correct pitch speed should be the one where you can pull a 93 mph fastball. 94 and up should be difficult but hittable if you are looking FB and location. Otherwise, it should be very hard to hit.
At 65, that's my comfort zone.Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
this is the main thing m8. we need a bigger contact window when batting...but not put in play kind of contact..we need that part of the "window" where the balls will usually go foul, or hit the batters foot for instance(wich i never saw in this game)
that would solve 90% of the hitter batter interface in my opinion...as this would also help get realistic number of pitches thrown by the pitcher, lower the strike out number , increase the walk number, without having to set the throw strike slider too low. right now if the guy isnt lost in his control, and walking a batter per inning its dificult to get 100 pitches in 7 innings for instace, casue you just dont foul enough balls. so usually the maximum pitch count in an AB is 6, i know the mlb average is problaby less than that... but you gotta think that not every AB we have will go to the 3-2 count, so our average is problaby much lesser than than 6 too.Last edited by brunnoce; 04-12-2007, 09:16 AM.---------------

If they do just one thing to improve this game next year it's exactly what you just said. The game would be incredible.Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
Just to comment on the lag issue... I have a Philips 30" CRT HdTV. I've never had any problem with lag with any game (besides the less than ideal framerate in Madden but I think that's kind of a given with everyone). When I first started playing MLB2K7 I was striking out 12 - 18 times a game and getting really frustrated. I adjusted the pitch speed, the contact ratings, everything. Finally, after studying replays and adjusting everything, I changed my display settings in my 360 console settings down from 1080i to 480p. (Unfortunately, my set is an older model that doesn't natively support 720p). When I started playing again, I struck out considerably (less than 50%) less than I did before. After adjusting the pitch speed to 60 and contact to 35, I now strike out 6-8 times a game against good pitchers, less against middle line guys, and I'm drawing walks as well.
I don't know if it's that I'm seeing the ball better in the lower resolution or what, but what it "feels" like to me is that when I press the button (I use classic control) the batter actually swings, as opposed to the small response lag I was seeing at the higher resolution. Of course, it could be completely psychological as well, but I don't think so. It's kind of annoying having to lower the resolution settings every time I want to play, but it's worth it to me to have a game I can actually enjoy."Boston's tenth man could not be wrong

They'd sing another victory song"

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
I don't think it's a DLP (at least for me) issue because I don't experience the same lag on the pitching side or even when moving the batters eye. Only when I swing.
If I'm pitching and moving the cursor, it moves with the stick. When I press the button to start the pitch, it starts at that moment. When I press it two stop the markers in zone pitching, it stops when it should.
When I'm hitting and I initiate the Batters eye and move it around, it again, moves with the stick.
However, when I pull back to take my stride when the pitch comes in, it feels slightly delayed and when I let go or press up to swing, again it feels slightly delayed. However, when I bunt, I don't feel the delay. It feels instantaneous.
This is why I don't think its a DLP or a TV issue because it all seems to be stride and swing related.Comment

See this is what I accomplish with pitch speed at 50. I foul off way more balls because you actually have time to react to outside and inside pitches and aim your left stick accordingly. Ive become very good at fouling off outside pitches to stay alive in the count.
Also I get good pitch counts. I dont have a problem getting 4-5 pitches per at bat. All you really need to average is 4.5 pitches per AB to get around 100 pitches in 7 innings. And that doesnt even factor in base hits and more than 3 batters per inning.
If your striking out more than you want to just raise your contact slider. At about 35 it becomes very easy to hit balls thrown outside the zone. I play with mine at 30. Classic batting. And I really feel its my fault if I K too much. I have no plate disipline. Just like the Cubs in real life. lolChicago Cubs

As I stated earlier, I found the # of walks decline because the offspeed and breaking stuff was too tempting to hit. These pitches are balls but cross the plate at a slower rate. I was far more disciplined to layoff the breaking stuff at pitch speed 65. Are you walking 6-8x per game?
You actually should in this game with throw strike slider below 50. Simply by taking pitches. I did notice homeruns were harder to come by which is a plus.Comment

I guess thats were personal gameplay comes in as well. I could if I wanted to, but Im just not gonna take that many walks. I like SIM gameplay as much as anyone, but taking that many pitches would make for some long and boring games.
And it does decrease HR power. I play with HR power at 5 and most HR's barely clear the fence. And the amount of HR's is decreased simply because your putting more bad pitches into play that mostly result in weak groundouts.Chicago Cubs
