Being like the Show is not the answer IMO as 2K has its own identity and is truly on the path towards greatness like MVP. Things just need to be tightened up going into "year 2". Pitching I think needs to be more ratings guided, poorer pitchers miss the zone more often. Like someone had posted earlier, instead of having payoff pitching collapse into a dot, make the sight larger and more varied depending on the skill of the pitcher. Bat ball physics also have to be tightened up, too many impossible homers the other way on pitches that would never in real life happen like that.

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
Everybody has mentioned the obvious things, as far as gameplay goes. So I will go with presentation.
The fans suck in 2K7. They don't even really react to when I hit big HR's! A HR in May against the Devil Rays gets the same boring reaction that a 7th inning game tying HR does in Game 6 of the World Series.
They also really, really need to improve how "big moments" feel. Gimme a dramatic view of my pitcher before he gets the signs when David Ortiz is up in the 9th with the game on the line. When I'm up to bat in the 9th inning with the game on the line, make me nervous!! Make the fans go crazy. Make the announcer set up the moment. Show some dramatic shots of my hitter taking deep breaths between pitches.
When I get a game winning base hit, I want to hear the fans explode (or go silent on the road). I want to see the team mobbing the guy who got the game winning hit at 1B. Game winning HR, I want to see the guy mobbed at home.
When I strike out Travis Hafner to end the 8th with the bases loaded, I want my pitcher to pump his fist and the fans to go nuts.
Playoff games NEED to start at night. I hated playing the World Series in the daytime. Silliness. And I know they "progress" into night time in the game, but for some reason Playoff games in 2K7 never got dark for me until the 7th inning, and even then it was never totally night time.
No excuse not to have "the little things" like this in the game, The Show does a great job of this stuff.
Maybe even have bugs swarm Joba Chamberlain.Last edited by Rob_NYY; 10-30-2007, 08:11 PM.Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
God I hope they don't. I hated it on the older games. I just don't know if it can be done and still give the user a good amount of control without making it either too easy or too hard. I think a more solid zone hitting interface is the way to go. This also allows for player ratings to play a bigger role (such as scouting reports and such).Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
I don't think cursor hitting is the answer to people's hopes for a realistic hitting system.
I believe if 2K would just tweak the swing stick (really batting itself) to prevent weird situations (I've hit homeruns on an inside out swing on a 95 mph fastball high n tight).
The problem I have with cursor hitting is that it feels like I'm fighting against what I see with how fast I can move the cursor over to the spot. At least with a swing stick it is based more on a user's timing/anticipation of pitch type and location instead of being able to first anticipate the pitch and then move a circle over to the general area where you think the pitch will end up.
One thing I think would help this game a lot is to take into account a player's swing dynamic. Take for instance Ken Griffey Jr. He has a natural homerun hitter's swing with a decent uppercut. Compared to a person like David Eckstein who has almost no uppercut, the batting should feel different. Granted this could lead to frustrating problems with a player's swing and producing consistent stats. Mike Piazza doesn't have a home run hitter's swing (has little to no uppercut and if you notice in his prime a majority of his home runs came on line drives with the occasional high shot).
Well, this post is getting a tad long so I'll leave it at that. Here's a wrap up:
1) no cursor hitting. It is too far from realistic batting to be good (my opinion only)
2) Tweak the batting mechanics to put more emphasis on pitch location and real life player's batting stats/tendencies/swing mechanics
3) Make a bigger penalty for trying to pull a pitch on the outside half of the plate and vice versa (inside out swings usually end up in outs or bloop singles to the opposite field).Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
For the next version of MLB, I hope to see the following:
1) A full fledged Franchise mode similar to MVP05
2) A career type mode like some one mentioned a few pages back
3) Better more fluid fielding
4) Reduce the rocket arms from the outfield (yes it's still there). Make players arm speed reflect players real life throwing capabilities.
5) Homeruns need to be reduced !!! In 2K7 it's way to easy to jack homeruns by pushing the hit stick up or influencing a fly ball when using classic batting. Playing a friend online with both homerun/power sliders set to zero we would still have games where both of us would hit 4 or 5 homers a game, sometimes more.XBL Gamertag: hoos4974

I would like to see them fix the delay between when you press the swing button and when the batter swings.Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
pitching
fixing the pitching is a must. seems their answer to that was to have homeruns occur out of nowhere. Jason Tyner does NOT hit curveballs in the dirt over the green monster.
hitting
during the average course of a game i see maybe 10 foul balls. i've seen that many at an at bat in a major league game.
fielding
not sure, but would like to incorporate 2 throw strengths, or pressure sensitive throwing or something. how come my outfielders had no problem gunning down runners, but my infielders had a hard time stopping slow runners from beating out infield singles
general gameplay
i had 3 different games, and tried it on 4 different 360s and it froze on each one of them after so much gameplay it seemed like. might wanna go ahead and look into this.
the menus are clunky
double switches are a pain in the *** to pull off
change it so that when we change a players name, it doesn't say their originial name.Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
i've said it before and i'll say it again...generated at bat counts. seems easy enough (but what do i know) and will help with pitch count, walks and will make realistic games faster.Comment

High Heat had something like this when I played High Heat 2002 I think, I like that idea. Didn't ESPN baseball 2k4 have this too or was it that gamecast thing.Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
I don't want to repeat what others have said so I'll add this one idea.
I'd like to see the throwing system that was in the MVP series brought into 2k. I loved how if the button was held down too long the throw would be strong but not as accurate.
I'd also like a number based rating system. Nothing is harder than trying to edit a player or create a player's pitch speed with a slider with no number.Last edited by royals_fan_16; 11-14-2007, 12:22 AM.Comment

Re: Whats in part 2 of the 3 year plan?
I've always thought the hitting would make more sense being mapped to the right trigger. That way your still free to use the thumbsticks for trying to go to left or right, flyball or grounder, but the depth of the trigger would make it easier to check swing.Comment
