Playing a short season and enjoying it, little quirks and all.

Tremendous potential for improvement for next year. Two great games would be...well, great.

      Re: Well...MLB2k8 is up next.

MLB 2K is always my second most anticipated title, but at least the wait for it is never bad since it drops in friggen February or March, right in the heart of college basketball season so College Hoops 2K is still going strong in my console when MLB 2K drops.

I will be extremely pumped for this release though, to see the general improvements in the game as well as the young Yankee arms being officially in the game.

        I agree to a point.

When a new console comes out, it usually means that the sports titles are going to take a few steps back, which is unfortunate.

You get accustomed to all the features, polished game play, updated presentation and then you get a new title that looks good, but is missing half of what you are used to.

Sports games, in general suffer the most because they are on a short development cycles, so regardless of whether it's for a new console, you're always going to get a game that is rushed to make a deadline (which in itself seems to get earlier and earlier). Also, with sports games, it seems the emphasis is always to add something new and not fix what is broken. This is why you see the same problems year after year.

Well, I do have big visions for this game. I think if they can fix the some of the frame rate problems and give you a little more animations this game will be sweet. I would like to see some touch ups on the graphics too. I agree Jim about some of the quirks. I hope they iron out some of those for next year. I will say one thing I really think this game is going in the right direction. The new camera option has made this game really fun to play. So I can't wait to see some info and videos of this and the Show. Should be a good year for baseball gamers.

I agree Scott. This years 30fps really held it back, we already know its moving upto 60fps for 2K8 which should really see it run smooth as butter. Add in new animations, tweaked graphics (lets face it, they cant get that much better than they already are), deeper farm systems including playable AAA teams and we could have one hell of a game on our hands come March.

I think Brinkman will really kick this game on in this the 2nd year of his 3 year plan.

That is coo,l I didn't know they would be 60fps that is sweet. If it can run smoother this game will be sick.

                Re: Well...MLB2k8 is up next.

I just want an improved hitting/pitching model. I mentioned it in another thread, but I'm not a fan of pressing up for flyball, down for groundball. I loved ESPN MLB 2K4's 360 degree zone hitting approach.

My problem with pitching is much smaller. I hate how pitchers lose velocity by 5-8 MPH the longer they are in a game or the more pitches they have thrown. That's not very accurate IMO. I can't think of any pitchers in MLB where that happens. MLB pitchers are pretty consistent throughout a game aside from when they take a little off a pitch intentionally.

I doubt my 2 issues will be fixed, but I can hope! 60FPS is great news. That should fix the stuttering that was prevalent in last year's game. The graphics were great so I have no complaints there. Hopefully the fielding will also get fixed and the gameplay tightened.

Yeah I agree, that would be cool if that did get fixed, but I doubt it too. I wish they can fix some of the hitting animation. The swing should look more fluid.

The Show is a great game, but NHL 08 is the best game of the year to me, that game is so freaking addicting. I was playing NHL 2k8, but now I can't stop playing NHL 08.

60fps was confirmed somewhere? News to me.

                              Re: Well...MLB2k8 is up next.

For me, the Road to the Show feature of MLB:The Show is completely addictive. I can see a lot of sports games taking a similar route in the future. My hope is MLB2k8 implements a similar feature. Otherwise I guess I will be buying a PS3 so I can play The Show in nextgen.

MLB2k7 is pretty good. I had some minor quibbles with the realism even after a lot of slider work. The annoyance with the game overwriting the slider work has to be fixed in 2k8. I just don't know what they were thinking.

I would also like a slider to "speed things up." The pacing is very realistic. That's the problem though. I cannot realistically play out a season in 2k7. Each game takes an hour or more, sometimes much more. If I want things to move along, a slider should take away the delays in between pitches.

Like any baseball sim, they have to get the K/9 and BB/9 numbers right straight out of the box. If I put a test game up with CPU vs CPU, it better produce realistic results without a bunch of slider work. Same thing with OBP/AVG and HR/9. Until they do, pure simmers are going to keep gravitating toward OTTP and the like. It really shouldn't be this hard to do. The Earl Weaver games were quite realistic, and that was 2 decades ago!

I too loved FPS:Baseball. FPS Baseball and Football were my 2 favorite sports sims of all time. I only gave up on them when they started bombing out under XP. I should have kept a 98 machine so I could keep playing them. Oh well.
