    name in a game...

    Ben Brinkman,
Last year a competitor of MLB 2K's series ran with a simple request I tossed their way...

I suggested to them that instead of choosing Last names from a phone book for their name database,
why not let the people who post on OS and who are the most passionate followers of their game, send in their
    own personal last names...

It was a good idea, what was remarkable was the Company saw the value in it and offered this in their
    next baseball game...Everyone was happy...

Mr. Brinkman I want to ask you to take an objective look at this, please look at this as a fan would...

This would give your game that personal touch...

I'd even be willing to pay a little bit to have my ultra-Germanic last name included.

It would be awesome, but for some reason, I don't see this working with 2K. SCEA seems to care more about their fans and their opinions on what they want in the game. 2K sometimes just doesn't seem to care about "little things" like this that would make their fans so happy.

I dunno, one year they had some managers named after OS admin

I don't think it has to do with "caring" so much as having multi billion dollar Sony funding you time to do this, versus much smaller 2k having to worry where its development time is alloted.

            Good point.

But what about having a rep on these boards to communicate with us, like Chris and Kolbe do for SCEA? They are on here more than me!

KushGamer always seemed to have a muzzle on him, like he wasn't allowed to say what he really wanted to say. He flat-out avoided some questions on here that were asked to him over and over, and I'm sure it's not his decision to ignore the questions. I've had PM conversations with him and he's a lot more open about the game in private than he is on the message boards, believe me.

2K just comes off as not caring, the way the release media also gives me the same feeling. Like a "hey, we don't need to show you vids or screens, you'll get them when we are good and ready to show them" type of attitude.

Oh well, they'll still get my $65.

I hear ya. It is frustrating to all of us. And I think they are going through a lot of restructures lately. They did not purchase the license extension to College Hoops, they were in financial trouble the past few years, and just recently had a few games get them back in the black.

Their policies do seem less to be desired, and I hope they will change and be more community oriented. Time will tell.

Ok... Everything sounds so easy when you are not working on it.

Not to mention they have to work with the ESPN guys thin time schedule, thus the timing and have lists of names to read off, etc.

Why am I even explaining this ... everything is so easy when one looks down on something.

Seriously though, how hard would it be to compile a list of names on a message board? 2K needs to take advantage of college interns. Their labor is free (or very minimal) and you can make them do all of the tedious crap no one else wants to do.

Really, it can't be that much of a financial burden to pay a guy $10 an hour (or less) for 8-10 hours a week to do little things like compile lists, update informations and answer questions.

Yes, that is great ... who is going to say those names though?

They mentioned the announcers were on a tight schedule. I imagine we wont see them back next year due to everyone complaining ... so maybe when they get cheaper and more available voice talent, this could be a probability.

It isn't just compiling names. They still have to have the announcers read them. And I think that is where the issue is.

Yeah, Jon Miller and Joe Morgan have been so busy the last few months calling all the baseball games. You know, the ones that have been on TV all these months since October.

Which is another problem...John and Joe were great...2 or 3 years ago. 2K needs to go another route if this is the best it is going to get with these guys.

And they record audio for the games in the spring/summer-ish. As well as mo-cap. Which is during the baseball season. There is only 3-4 months of winter (before game ships) which is bug testing, game play tweaking, etc.

That stuff needs to be done early as possible, and implemented as early as possible to test for bug pop ups. You cant do it last minute, in the winter, before the game ships soon.

Possibly, but if you check your emails often enough in 2K7, you will stumble upon a message from a fan named MuffMcFluff (my former username on the 2K Sports message boards, now lengthened to MuffinMcFluffin). I think that's pretty cool that they sorta put me in the game.

Not only that, but back in 2K3, all of the administrators on this site were coaches that you could draft in the game (Steve being the highest rated).

Though I do have to agree that their loyalty to OS has gone down since then.
