I can't believe guys are crying about the sounds, atmosphere, crowd, etc.. THIS IS YEAR 2. Next year you'll get all that. I want it too but without GAMEPLAY who cares? The most important issues were worked on this year. Without the new innovation and gameplay these same people would cry because they don't have it all.

This game has come a long way just like MVP did. Next year you'll have your cake and eat it too.

nobody should be complaining about sound/atmosphere.

After all the complaining that we did about the gameplay (legitimate complaining mind you), just the fact that they made a solid playing game we should be doing backflips.

Let them get the gameplay down pat and solid and then update the graphics/sound/atmosphere in the future.

I went on Metacritic and looked up MLB 2K7, here are a few scores for that game:

          IGN 79
          Gamespot 78
          EGM 72
          Official Xbox Mag 75
          Gametrailers 68
          Operation Sports 70

Now if I remember gradeing from when I was in school, many many moons ago, a B was about an 84,85,86, and a B- 80,81,82,83. So it seems we are at least going in the right direction.

I don't even remember High Heat's atmosphere or announcing, and MVP was very weak in both departments, but I got hooked on the gameplay.
EGM saying that hitting, and fielding are in the good category, and that 2 out of 3 guys liked the pitching ( I honestly never expected everyone to like it ) this game sounds like it's right up my alley.
Agreed. When your on your 112th game of you franchise, and you are completely engrossed in the gameplay, bat sounds, crowd reactions and "cool" cutscenes are the last thing on my mind.

What I want to know is why the hell EGM changed their scoring system from numerical to letter grades.

                  Quick question...

After seeing how much the post-release patches helped 2K7, NBA2K8 and College Hoops 2K8 especially in terms of game play, wouldn't it be relatively easy to improve the atmosphere via a patch? I mean, the crowd basically needs to be louder and recognize big plays to get extremely loud. Is that too big of a task to be fixed through a patch?

It's not impossible but I think they will purposely delay these presentation aspects of the game for 09. I can already see their marketing for next year "Last year was gameplay, This year is Audio and presentation"

Actually, I'm pretty sure a B is in the 70's. My school uses levels 1-4 and 1 being a D and 4 being an A. And for us, 4+ is like 90+, 4 is 85-89, 4- is 80-84 and B+ is 75-79 and so on. Either way, this looks to be a solid game and March 4th can't come soon enough!

It stems from the recent GameSpot Kane & Lynch fiasco. It is also due in part to the certain "pressures" publishers and advertisers were putting on the magazine. Apparently, Sony threatened stop sending EGM review copies of games unless reviews were a little more "favorable."

A lot of places are now usign letter grades, not numbers in their reviews. Letters are more nebulous and get pubs to back off.

Yeah, it would be a big deal. They aren't going to give us 2k9 eye and audio candy because that is what they'll be selling us for next year. Patches and DLC are only for glitches in gameplay and extra stuff like stadiums, baseball cards, etc.

It would be nice but its not going to happen.

OMG. You have got to be kidding me. What is the world coming to. My friend, a 78 is a C- and 77 is a D+ when I went to school. How old are you and where do you attend school? With the internet these days you kids should have to score 95 and above to pass.

There is no way 2K's marketing head next year is going to be "Presentation and Audio". That doesn't sell games, features and gameplay do. Even if they presentation and audio are improved it won't be the main thing they push.

It was last year for 2k7. Basically they were marketing "how good the game looks" and all those signature stances/animations.
