Re: An Interesting Head to Head Video of 2K8 vs The Show

Bottom line for me is that both games are going to push each other to keep getting better. Win/Win for us. I have them both paid for and can't wait to start playing.
    PS3: The Show
    360: MLB2K8

    It's going to be fun!!

I don't like that in 2K8 you can't even really see the bat ever make contact with the ball. In The Show you can often see the ball/bat contact the whole way and the camera just switches positions so smoothly to a fielding view, it just looks so seemless.

The one thing I like more about 2K8 is how there seems to be slightly more variety with bloopers and stuff. The balls are usually hit too hard in the air in the Show to get enough bloopers, not that they don't happen in the show, just not enough.

There's a reason many people buy a PS3 just for The SHOW -- it's an outstanding representation of baseball from the graphics to the animations, to the stats, to the way things are managed in franchise, etc. It's the whole package.

All that being said, 2K8 is going to give The Show reason to be innovative and creative and start pushing itself. It surely seems like the 2K team is starting to get things right.
So you have already played 2k8?

Good post. I agree about not seeing the ball hit the bat in 2k8. That bugs me. In 2k8 when a ball is pitched it seems like it disappears before it should. It doesn't seem like the ball is coming all the way in to the catcher's glove.

I think 2k8 looks great but the Show has superior animations and the game is a lot smoother. 2k8 seems a little jerky, especiall the hitting and batting interface.

I played the demo of The Show for the first time and it felt like MVP baseball with more animations and better graphics. MVP came up with the perfect mechanics for pitching, batting, and throwing imo. I don't know if it can be topped. The Show seems to have built upon that.

The Show looks good from the videos, as does MLB 2k8. Far as visuals go, I'd give the nod to MLB 2k because it seems the color comes out more and to me while the crowd in The Show is stadium full, it looks like a sega genesis crowd to me. But the gameplay looks Greatness for the show. 2k looks ok, kinda a take it or leave it for me personally. But none the less I'll be getting both versions.

            PS2- The Show (Yes, PS2 sadly )
            Xbox 360- 2k8

But I think I'll be playing The Show more...then again it depends. I like playing with Minor league affliliates.

I tried getting two baseball games one year. It didn't work out. How do you guys have time to play both?

Well for me Ill play 2K8 a lot then when I get The Show a month later Ill play it for a while and depending which one is more fun is the one that will get the most playing time but Ill still play the other game for its specific features. Such as if 2K8 is better gameplay Ill play that game the most but will play RTTS on The Show. But if The Show is better gameplay Ill play it the most but will play 2K8 for online and a different experience with the Swing Stick and Pitching. Beacuse there definetly ain't enough time to alternate between games constantly.

Re: An Interesting Head to Head Video of 2K8 vs The Show

When you look at the presentation of the games, they are completely different. 2K's has more pauses, sort of drawing out the game. Like Rocky said, I too never got why people get on Miller/Morgan. I think they do a very good job. What's lacking is a deeper base of comment from them. I think 2K does an excellent job of making these players look real. Their animations and structure look more true to life, where The Show's looks stubby and cartoonish.

The transitions in The Show look great. The game appears to be running very smooth, giving screen transitions a very seamless feel. 2K can't claim that. I don't like the at the plate presence of The Show. The batter seems unnatural, just going into position and repeating the swaying animation. The Show wins in the sound dept., that's for sure. Everything sounds crisp and clean, where 2K's sounds almost muted.

Both games look great. I'm more attracted to The Show because I've never played it. The only chance I'll get is with my PSP, as I don't have a PS3.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Eh I think both look pretty comparable to one another really. It all comes down to personal preference. I do like the play by play of The Show a tad more, but the color guy is terrible. And the Show has 2k beat on crowd noise, which across the entire sports line has always been a weak link of 2k sports titles. Other wise though they really don't seem all that different.

Last year 2K was FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR superior to the show. It's good to see The Show improving.

                          Warning- LONG post

I hate how some people seem to make fanboyish comments and can't seem to be objective.

I owned 2K7 and MLB 07 The Show, have had my copy of 08 The Show since Saturday, and will be buying 2K8 when it comes out. The good thing about having 2 systems and both games is objectivity.

First of all, for my opinion on the 2007 baseball games from these 2 companies. I only had a 360 at this time last year, and bought 2K7 the day it came out. Shows how much I LOVE baseball games because 2K6 was the single WORST baseball game I had ever played in my life. First year I went without a baseball game completely as I returned it to the store after a week.

I thought 2K7 was good, and a HUGE improvement over 2K6, leaps and bounds. First of all it was playable. Much more hit variety, fielding was much better, loved swingstick, absolutely LOVED pitching. The graphics were very good, except I thought the wind blown jerseys were overdone (constantly moving- watch a season of MLB games and see how many times you see jerseys move like that).

My problems with it was it just didn't play a realistic baseball game, and I am a hardcore sim gamer. On the hardest difficulty I hit way too many HR's. Way too many hits to the wall that were singles due to unbalanced speed/arms. A RIDICULOUS amount of wall climb catches (multiple EVERY game). And if I played a full season it would have produced unrealistic statistics (would have hit 100+ HR's with some players and I don't sim any games).

Now for 07 the Show. The best thing about this game is it plays like real baseball. Realistic stats on hardest setting, great pitcher batter battles with good amounts of foul balls, great hit variety with realistic amount of HR's. GREAT ANIMATIONS (way too herky jerky, bad transitiony in 2K)

Now the weak points. The graphics for 07 looked like slightly spruced up PS2 graphics. MUCH better in 2k7. The signature styles were weak and off compared to 2k7. While batting was great, pitching was weak and simple and a little too easy compared to 2K7.

Now, this year 08 the Show greatly improved their graphics. I have to say it is the best baseball game I have ever played so far. But the pitching is still simple and too easy. The behind the pitcher cam looks a little plain, while the 2K one looks like a broadcast presentation. The graphics are awesome but cartoony compared to 2K.

Based on the improvements Take 2 made from 2K6 to 2K7, I have HIGH HIGH hopes for 2K8. Already, the pitching and hitting look more innovative (swing stick and new pitching system) and the signature styles look better and more accurate. Hopefully the animations (absolutely HUGE in baseball games) are improved from last year.

If 2K can improve their animations and make the game play more like real baseball (greater hit variety, less HR's, realistic stats), those 2 things alone can cause this game to match or possibly surpass The Show.

                          I can't wait to see.

Agreed 100%, I'll take your word about the Show as I've not played it since I only have a 360, but after the misery that was 2k6, and that 2k7 while it had its good points, it wasn't very sim. (way too many home runs for example) between hearing all the positive about the new pitching and hitting, along with the hope that lineup bugs and the such have been adressed this year. I'm going to take the plunge. The only thing that worries me is every media we've seen so far on 2k8 theres still too many homers for my liking, but I'm hopeful that sliders can remedy that.

Just in case any of you havent seen this, I was pretty impressed with the video that shows clips of both games throughout the vide to give you a good idea of the visuals and gameplay for both games. I must say Im pretty impressed with 2K8, they most certainly closed the gap with the Show this year...in fact, dare I say, 2K8 visually looks more enticing and dynamic?!

However, after watching the video, I can also see how everyone has issues with 2K8's bat sounds...their too over the top and explosive.

But all in all, I must say, I am very much excited for the MLB 2K8 Demo tonight or tommorow!
                              Thanks for posting this.
I'm still a bigger fan of The Show's player models. 2K8's look so skinny and I hate how every game features hurricane like winds to show off the loose jersey effect. It's far overdone.

Being a 360 owner I have little choice than to either stick with The Show 07 on my PS2 or purchase 2K8. But after playing The Show 08's demo on my brothers Plasma, I have a hard time believing 2K8's visuals will be as crisp and clean as the Show's.
That game just oozes baseball and it really feels like you're at the ball park.

Saying that, it sure looks and sounds like Brinkman has brought 2K8 up a notch and I'm really looking forward to trying his game out.
