This is actually probably the best feature they have put in the game. Which I think you really hit on the spot. Was playing my friend online and yes despite the lag there was some really cool things. Got to work on our throwing, baserunning, and managing our team.

About the throwing its so small that its actually one of the best new features. I love that not every throw is just on target and that you can't tell a different from a great short stop to an average to a rookie. Every throw you have to pay attention and actually work at. Now its just not press a button and get mad when your infield throws an error despite having the guy thrown out any like 5 steps.

One of the best things was that when I played online my friend had Crisp on 2B. He popped it up to right and was trying to score. Picked up the ball with Griffey and threw a rocket down to home plate. I slightly aimed it down the third base line and the catcher came off the plate about a foot and a half to catch and then lay the tag right before Crisp was going to slide. It was pretty much the perfect angle for the throw and right amount of power to get it in to tag him.

An inning before he try to throw me out and just held down as the ball just got to the catching standing on home plate as I slid in.

Little stuff like that I haven't heard much people say but its the little things that are making me like this game every time I play it.

Is it possible that the people that enjoy MLB2K8 like it because they haven't played enough baseball videogames?

All-Star Baseball--- my favorite baseball series of the n64 era--- plays more fluidly and intuitively than this.

Not for me at least. I've been playing baseball games since Bases Loaded on the NES, Ken Griffey's Winning Run on the SNES, and to MVP. Although not yet the best, MLB 2k8 is one of the most intuitive baseball games I've played in a long time. IMHO

I understand but in year two the game should go forward...NOT BACKWARD...The swing stick is improved and even the fielding is pretty decent but the framrate, graphics and overall play ruin the game.

Why are you trying to tell people they shouldn't like the game. I've been playing baseball games since the 80's.

If I like the game, I like the game. Stop trying to belittle others cause they like the game. If you don't like it then and yo had inclanations it would be bad then why purchase it.

I for one hate all baseball games without cursor hitting. Besides that fact I decided to give it a try. The hit mechaninc I totally dislike but all other aspects of the game seem pretty good. That PGR 2-4 30 frames per second thing is ok with me, in a racing game I hated the drop in FPS form PGR 1, but that is a racing game and the difference is much more dramatic in that game.

One thing I will say is that there is too much stuff and no manual to help you navigate it. Not to mention that their menu system sucks. They started with the menu garbage in 2k7 or 2k6 I think and it needs to go

One thing I noticed w. the throw meter (I don't know if this was common knowledge or not) but the bottom of the meter has a point and the whole meter is actually an arrow pointing at where you'll throw the ball.

So you can usually tell if you're going to throw it off-line and of course it shifts a little when you throw a full-power throw.

Re: Sorry, but I really like this game

The problem i am having with this game is that as soon as you turn it on, it looks disgusting. It literally looks like a PS2 game, and to top that off, when you see the framerate stutter and hiccup, its like watching the game under a strobelight. This is a freakin next gen, Xbox 360 people. I mean, the game at least LOOKED better last year. There is simply NO EXCUSE for this poor effort. This game is total rubbish. (BTW, im playing on a 46" Sony Bravia XBR5 in full 1080p, so its not my TV like some others here on the forum have tried to give 2K a "get out of jail free card".)

I appreciate the new controls and what 2K "tried" to do there. I have also been wanting more of a challenge and a deeper learning curve than what we've always had. I simply cannot even let myself learn the deeper pitching controls because everything else in the game turns my stomach. The graphics and framerate chugging completely kill the experience for me. Sports games should be FLUID and SMOOTH. I could have given the game a pass for the PS2 player models, IF the gameplay was smooth and fluid. The animations look stiff and robotic, i mean i don't know how they even released this game. Why couldn't they have left last years visuals and framerate, and just added the newer controls and better fielding?? They took a major step backwards, and this is an UNACCEPTABLE effort on a powerful console such as the 360. On this console, in the year 2008, the LAST thing we should be griping about is graphics and framerate.

I played three or four games last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just need to wait for some sliders (or try to make some myself) that'll make the computer pitchers throw more balls and the computer hitters take more pitches.

Re: Sorry, but I really like this game

I agree with this. I think that the pitching mechanical changes are excellent and add a whole new element to the game. I'm still not *huge* on the swing stick, but it's an improvement over last year's game. The base running is much improved, as I usually have one or two hit and runs in a game that work out very well and realistically. Fielding is much, much better and doesn't feel as "automatic" -- you actually have a say in fielding errors (try using the throwing stick before fielding the ball, you have a much higher chance of bobbling it).

I like the new menus, the new roster additions, and I'm going to get into Franchise mode shortly.

There are still a few drawbacks. It's too bad the game isn't smooth, it would have been nice, and that was something harped on in interviews that they were hoping 60FPS, and they were honest, saying "the game doesn't always run at 60FPS, but most of the time does." It is true: during pitching and batting, the game runs flawlessly with no hiccups at the important moments. However, in the field, you still have the same "thrashing" that hit the game last year, with frames overlapping on frames and making a chopped fielding feel. But, that only lasts for a second. It's noticeable and it does detract, but does not ruin the game by any imagination.

I'm disapointed that manager mode wasn't fixed. That's something that anybody who uses manager mode should have noticed before 2K7 came out, let alone with 2K8. It was very obvious and they goofed up with that... and will really frustrate me like last year's did. Although, I do really like how they cleaned up the menus in manager mode and made them more user friendly, responsive, and simple.

I also... weirdly... like the trading cards. Call me crazy. I hated the Madden Cards system, it was a useless gimmick... but this has some element of "fantasy baseball" in it, an element of like CoD4 "Challenges," and also adds some neat unlockables to strive for.

I think that a B- is a fair score for the game, AT THIS POINT. Maybe in a month I will change my mind, but at this point, B- seems fair, assuming last year's game was a C or C-, it's a solid improvement. Still not great but solid it seems.

I am a big baseball game player, I logged hundreds of hours into past baseball games... really hated MLB 2K7, but I can't keep harping on MLB 2K8's flaws... the game plays pretty solidly. They cleaned up what I primarily wanted cleaned up (hit scattering, base running, fielding) and added the new pitching mechanic which I think is a great improvement to baseball games.

So far, so good, I know, it isn't perfect, and, having a learning curve is cool beans, but when I played this game, I was totally into it, even though, I got smoked in my first game on Pro 7-0! Haha, but I haven't seen much framerate issues, haven't gotten into this franchise bugs, but it plays a solid game of baseball out of the box, and I will be playing this game for a long time. Good job 2k!

Now, I like MLB 2K8 -- I'm enjoying it -- but for God's sakes can we stop with the "Three Year Plan" crap... stop buying excuses from developers for sub-par projects. They're not selling the game as if it's 1/3rd of a game or 2/3rds of a game... Maybe if MLB 2K7 were $20, MLB 2K8 were $40, and MLB 2K9 were $60, then we could say, "well, this is a three year plan, so MLB 2K7 is 1/3rd of what the game should be, 2K8 is 2/3rds, and 2K9 is the "full game," but they're not, they're selling it for $60 -- do not make excuses with the "three year plan" nonsense.

People pass this nonsense because MVP became a great playing game by the 2005 iteration, hwoever, when MVP Baseball 2003 came out, NO Developers were saying "well, this is the first effort of a three year plan... wait until 2005 for the real good game!" and then in 2004, "Well, this one isn't THAT good... wait until next year for the good game!"

Now, baring in mind that I like 2K8 and I'm enjoying it, let's just STOP with the "it's a three year plan!" as if that's an actual justification for why 2K8 is missing a couple features or is untuned in some ways.

I've played at least one baseball game every year since NES Baseball, so that can't be the reason I'm enjoying it. I'm very well aware that it's not perfect, and I may still get The Show eventually, but now that I've got the pitching controls down, I'm just having a lot of fun playing the game.
