Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
Default sliders on Pro setting... I'm starting to see more balls now. Maybe it was just the pitcher I was hitting against? Who knows. I have switched over to classic batting as well which is easier to take pitches so maybe that has something to do with it as well.Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
I have no problem with the computer taking balls... if you follow the calls of yoru catcher, you get a reasonable amount of walks (reasonable in that there's always fewer walks in baseball videogames than in the actual game, because nobody "likes" to walk a guy).
The CPU pitch selection though, with balls/strikes really irritates me... It hasn't taken away from the game for me, but it bugs me. 3 pitchers, 3 strikes usually... even with pitchers who throw junk, not even just with a guy like Sabathia who starts out ahead. And, situationally, Ortiz at bat, first base open, guy on second... they're not going to pitch him high and in the zone, it's just not going to happen. If anything, they'll junk pitch him around, but not in his sweet spot.. EVER. I had some random nub from Tampa Bay throwing heaters down the center of the plate in that situation. I left the bat on my shoulder because I wanted a walk, 3 pitches, three strikes, all within his hit zones.
Even in 0 - 2 counts, when the "Inside Edge" predicts the three most likely pitches are out of the zone breaking pitches... yet the pitch is a up and in fastball? Like, the odds of that pitch according to Inside Edge is less than 3% mathematically, but it's thrown (or something similar) probably 80% of the time.Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
Cool...will post later this evening...
Note, one thing that was troubling about last year was the 3-0 fastball right down the middle. W/ my sliders you will get to those 3-0 counts. With this year version does the CPU still throw that 3-0 fastball right down the middle everytime? That was real annoying last year, and to not take advantage of it all the time I would take on that pitch and swing away on 3-1. However, I would like to do whatever I want to do w/o feeling like I just cheated the CPU because I knew they were throwing a 3-0 FB right down the pipe.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
So you get 3-0 counts with your sliders, but you dont know if the CPU throws it in the middle of the plate on those counts?Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
after thinking about the game here at work, when I give it another go tonight, I'm setting the hitting back to the face buttons and I'm changing the pitching back to what it was last year or something different then the stick, I know 2k means well, but the swing stick is hit or miss IMO, with the hit stick you seem to always hit the ball in the air which I'm starting to really hate, also I'm going to look at some sliders, I really careless about the right stick pithing, It's a great Idea but maybe just now for me.

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
What you have to do is roll the stick in the direction you want to go.
As an example....when you pull back on the stick,to make an attempt at a groundball, you need to roll the stick in a semi-circular motion, instead of just pushing up in a certain direction.
I have seen a ton of hit variety doing this as well....slow rollers, ropes, bloops as well as the normal pop ups.
Oh yea....this is also dependent on your timing as well as the pitch. There seems to be more factors involved this year in getting those hits.....which I enjoy.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

....I've been playing on Pro to get the hang of the new mechanics.
Oh yea......I'm not complaining. Nevermind...lol

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
These are MLB 2K7 sliders. They can be used as a starting point (which is what I'm going to do once I get the game). In MLB 2K7 the CPU would throw it right down the middle on a 3-0 count. Since I don't have 2K8 yet I don't know if this still happens. Does anyone know?Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
It doesn't...I have had several 3-0 counts and haven't seen one down the middle yet. I have walked on 4 pitches a couple of times actually."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
This is the exact reason why last year I made a freaking spreadsheet of the sliders I was using. I'm at work now, but when I get home I can attach it to a thread in the slider forum and you guys can enjoy those. My whole goal was to see realistic pitch counts, and more balls thrown by the CPU pitcher because prior to the slider adjustments I made I was seeing the CPU pitcher go 8-9 innings against me all the time unless I started rocking him. With my sliders the CPU will have to throw more pitches to get you out, and will thus use more stamina and only be people to CG you if he's on top of his game (or your sucking).
Will post those sliders around 6:00-6:30 pm (I don't get off until 5:00).Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
Ugh. Still not seeing hardly any pitches outside the zone, despite slider tuning. I think one of the major causes of this is the generous (to say the least) strike zones given by the umpires. I've watched countless replays of borderline pitches (all called strikes) that are NOT in the zone. They miss the edge of the plate by a few videogame inches.
This frustrates me to no end, as my brain says 'ball' but the damn game says strike! This is really the only thing about the game that is really bothering me right now since I went to the classic hitting interface. My pitching, fielding and baserunning are coming around, but hitting is just downright boring for me as I know that 95+% of the pitches will be strikes...Comment

Re: computer doesn't take or throw balls
Messed with the sliders earlier and the computer walked me 6 times on allstar setting. I still got killed, but i did walk quite a bit. What really helps is that edge setting turn that way down, not all the way though, and it helps a ton.Comment
