Re: 2K8 Patch Available: Official Post Patch Impressions

Alright, finally downloaded the PATCH. Game seems to play much smoother. You actually can tell that the frame rate took bump in the right direction especially in the Batter/Pitcher Interface.

Throws from all over the field are also smoother. Cut-Scenes are still suffering some, especially the end game stuff. Again I think that stuff has to do with how the game is caching to the HDD more than anything else.

Clear the cache if you feel necesary BEFORE you download the patch, not after. If you clear it after you just deleted the patch. Game patches are stored within the cache folder, usually being a larger file around 800kb or so.

I got the same thing and I was using the official roster update. So, I deleted it and went back to default and I still can't get on.

The offline play is way smoother. Very noticeable. Now, something strange I've never seen before. The AI committed an error in the top of the 5th inning and since then ever thrown, hit and pitched ball has the appearance of going through a glove as if it is also an error. Strangely, the player has the ball in their gloves. But you see a ball traveling through the glove and at least a good 10-15 feet past the fielder. It's really quite annoying. I'm hoping it goes away after the bottom of the inning plays through.
I really wonder about the lack of QA that 2K is demonstrating with this game.

Is the patch as good or better than logging out of the VIP to fix frame rate issues? If better, what is the difference?

Frame rate is comparable to logging out, but I noticed that batting isn't as smooth as it should be. The ball seems to skip a few frames as it comes towards the plate.

So my first game with the Patch is My Nats against the Astros I only allow 6 hits 0 BB and 0 errors, I win the game 7-6. all 6 of there runs were Solo HR, Matsui 1, Berkman 2, Carlos Lee 2, and TY Wigginton 1. I had 11 Hits, 4 Doubles, and 4 Triples, 0 HRs. I have never had a game anything like this before, I hope it wasw a fluke and not the patch, or I will have to go back to the old version.

maybe it's just me... but i feel the commentary is much better, I'm hearing new sayings i have never heard before! It really seems like they are getting the calls right and they have much more to say before and after the plays!
Also i noticed that when the cpu runs to make a catch in the outfield.. you don't get that stuttering animation that slows the outfielder down which makes it seem like they timed the catch.
                  Anyone else see these changes?

not exactly, but something that did jump out at me was that I played 2 games since the patch and in both games after the 7th inning they said the right inning for the highlite (not bottom of the 7th like always) and in one game it was a HR and the dude didnt say it was an inside the parker. could be coincidence which it prob is, but it similar to what you said.

Folks, I kid you not, there may be something else here addressed in the patch that I have observed that definitely was not here before the patch.

My very first inning in the 34th franchise game played ( 1st one after the patch )

Scott Kazmir is pitching against my Pirates. I was a big time swinger in the pre patch....perhaps alot of it was due to the fact that the framerate really cut down on the time I had to actually judge pitched balls and strikes....but there is definitely something else here at work after the patch. In the very 1st inning I actually drew 4 walks and walked in a run! Pre Patch, I was lucky to get 1 walk every few games...if I was patient.

My sliders are custom sliders and they were slid all the way to the left for CPU throws strikes when ahead and behind and in general. Prior to the patch, those sliders didnt seem to affect anything. Pitchers would still throw strikes on a 10-1 ratio if not higher. I just paused the game now and Im still only in the 1st inning, and Scott Kazmir has thrown 18 balls and 6 strikes!!

If that wasnt enough, I also noticed another HUGE observation. The umpire in this game has not called strikes on pitches that were touching the perimeter of the strike zone. He missed about 6 calls already on balls touching the zone....and to boot, 3 of them were 50% of the ball crossing the perimeter and in 1 pitch, 75% of the ball was inside the upper corner of the strike zone and he called it a ball! This is fantastic if its actually a result of some unadvertised patch work in addition to the framerate and Padres tweak!

Folks, this is too exciting to overlook...please fill me in on some of your observations as well. It just seems too coincidental....i've never seen balls called this close to the strike zone before the patch!

Let me know what you see!

Im hoping Steals and Hit and Runs are fixed too!

For what it's worth: The mod on the 2K board has hinted that there are other things besides framerate and Padres bug which where addressed in this patch. A complete list will be posted when he gets permission....

Yeah, he already admitted that the hitting to the holes in the infield has been tweaked a bit. If you notice, there are a few more balls that make it through the holes in the infield. I've actually noticed that myself.

I noticed this also!! It seems the sliders are more responsive I am going to test this with the CPU steal slider

This game is making me daffy. I like it so much and then this weird garbage happens. Both of these things are post patch.

First inning. I threw a 2 strike pitch to someone on the Rays. He successfully bunts the ball into play but the announcer says he whiffed. The game panned away as soon as the ball was hit into play. I assumed the ball hit him or something and he was called out. Then I look at the replay and the ball came right off of his bat. To compound the issue, no out was recorded and he did not appear as having had an at-bat. I go back to the game and the next guy is at the plate. WTF? So the result of the paly is one bunt put into play that is not recorded as ANYTHING.

I also find that my rightfielder will absoultely not go onto the warning track. I have had 2 high flyballs hit to the track in 3 games. Both were very high flies that he would have camped under easily, but for some reason he instead hits some invisible wall and just stands in the ready position until the ball lands at which point he picks it up. I can't comment on whether this happens with other outfielders but it has been at two different parks. I dont get it. The guy just stops and will not advance any farther. As I said, both times they were balls the play would have had to wait for to catch, he would have easily been in position but instead I can't move him and the ball bounces off the track and into the wall.

This sh*t makes my head hurt. Has anyone else seen this?
